Triangle of Sadness (2022)
Definitely a Triangle
Director Ruben Östlund wrote and directed this movie that gave us some background into the lives of models, influencers, the wealthy and the quiet/ not so quiet staff. Cinematography drew us in with the great escapes a tourist would love to embrace on a trip. Beautiful people captured in they're glam shots and then overturned and caught in the not so attractive/ not appealing scenes. Plenty of non appealing scenes, where at first didn't appeal , then I understood the Directors choices. Well done for all of the actors, some parts of the movie felt slow while others it did speed up. Greed and status played an important part until everyone seemed equal and money couldn't replace the bare necessities. Thoroughly enjoyed this movie, some parts I can do without the repetitive scenes, yet it made its point. Well done for it's collaborations in it's entirety.
Moonstruck (1987)
Great film
Magnificent work from Director Norm Jewison that captivated me. There is a list of movies given to us in our classes, this is considered a classic. I understand why, a good script, great cast of actors ( Oscar winners Cher, Olympia Dukakis and the script) the chemistry between them was palpable and intriguing. There were some parts that were not as smooth, the story was strong and many levels of love in different relationships made love grander and better. I'll be watching more movies with the actors involved in this movie, I want to learn and watch how they grow in their talents over the years. Awesome work with lines that I know stand out in their delivery. Well oiled machine.
Sophie's Rules (2023)
Melding of stories well done
Never heard of these Directors or writers, understandable since it's an independent film. Stories were strong ( PTSD felt real) and in some cases heart wrenching; would of liked to know more in the sub plots, there are some unknowns that needed more or not so rushed . Story felt almost docudrama ish, which is why more background on sub plots would have heightened the ending. I appreciate the idea of the homeless shelter, although it felt upscale ish, the idea appealed to me. The actors were believable and well done with they're portrayals. Sophie felt stern yet caring leading the group of past/ current members of her house. Cinematography captured the actors in their vulnerable portrayals and I really enjoyed the outdoor scenes. All in all good work on the collaboration melding a few into one.
Sharper (2023)
Great threads woven into a movie
Director Benjamin Caron has had my attention since Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch, perhaps only one episode fab nonetheless.
Sharper's vignettes threading through to the end to give us a full story and finally a complete picture. Enjoyed the back stories, front stories, the hidden stories and the continual cons. The actors rose to the occasion to fill in any gaps and peaked our curiosity. This movie began slow, and towards the end built momentum. Twists and turns captivated us the audience. Expectations were gratified; enjoyed the multiple storylines that had a simple base. Always appreciate a movie that intrigue inquiring minds and Sharper did it extremely well.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Loved the twists
Directors Dan Kwan & Daniel Schienert masterfully co directed and co wrote this wonderful film of multiple realities melding several realms and creating a symbiotic finish. Tons of quirkiness filled with genuine inflection and introspection of inner and outer turmoil within each person and everyone they have a relationship with resulting in continual flux of the stories. Thoroughly enjoyed the story within a story within a storyline. Brava and bravo to the actors for their performances. They captivate us with all of the multiple personalities that come to the surface. Feeling the range of emotions that they express and many times throughout cause confusion. Thank you for this quirky multiple rearmed movie.
