PCU (1994)
Good in the 90's GREAT today
I remember first seeing this movie in 1997 or 1998. I rented the tape in a Blockbuster with a few friends and we had a lot of laughs. It became one of the main sources of quotes for us, but I never watched it again until yesterday. I always remembered it as "that cool college movie with George Clinton".
Seeing it again for the first time in over 20 years was a whole different experience. Not only it brought back so many memories, but the world as we are now makes this movies feels like reading ancient prophecies that came true! What was over the top in colleges in the 1990's looks so little compared to what we have today. Another big change is that what we see in PCU was kinda restricted to college cities, but now with social media it feels like that kind of stuff is everywhere, from older people working to young high school kids.
The cast is great and the soundtrack is even better, but what really makes it shine it's the script. You would never see something like this made today, but now more than ever it is what we need!
License to Drive (1988)
Great comedy!
This is the kind of movie that should be made again! It's hard to beat that heart warming feel of 1980's and 1990's teen comedies... They kind of bring those scenarios that likely wouldn't happen and troubled situations that would be horrible to go through, but you still kind wish it would happen to you.
Corey Haim and Corey Feldman are great in this movie, like every single movie they did together. They had such a great chemistry that watching anything with them in the 1980's feels like hanging out with your old gang. I really don't see any young actors pulling this off today and it really is sad.
License to Drive is hilarious and you should see it!
Happy Hell Night (1991)
Zachary Malius should be the 90's Freddy
If "Happy Hell Night" was released in 1981 instead of 1992, it would be remembered as one of the greatest slashers of all time, but sadly it kinda went to obscurity.
It's a shame that the early nineties had some horror movies with such potential to became great franchises like Halloween but somehow were nothing as successful. "Happy Hell Night" had Zachary Malius, "Brainscan" had the Trickster and "Dr Giggles" had the Doctor... Just imagine what we could have had! At least Ghostface made it big!
"Happy Hell Night" is a straight foward slasher flick, but it has a very dark tone and the opening scene alone is worth the movie!
Lula: O Filho do Brasil (2009)
Not the best way to learn about Lula
Lula is the most hated and loved politician in brazillian history. Half of the country sees him as some kind of messiah and half sees him as the devil. This may seem exaggerated if you're not from Brazil, but is the only thing I think both sides can agree.
This movie was made while Lula was still president and it obviously portrays him as greatest human being to ever walk on planet Earth. This is the movie biggest problem: they didn't write him as REAL PERSON, but as someone who is never wrong or never had any flaws. It was made so over the top to show him as a good guy that it can't be taken seriously.
If you wanna watch this movie to learn how his supporters see him, this is your movie. If you wanna learn about his story, then look for something else...
