The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
Not just a winner, a spectacle
I came u to thus movie thinking it may be bad but I had high hopes. And boy were my hopes blown away. The score, the story, the production value, the acting, I was in awe. Every moment in this film is foing something something to help move it along. The pacing is really good considering this is almost 3 hours long. I don't even want to the work each character's costume took. Lucy Gray's was especially beautiful. Adding along to Lucy Gray, Rachel Zieher plays her wonderfully. She seemed a bit annoying at first but I soon loved her. Plus her voice is absolutely perfect. That was one of my favorite parts of this movie, the song are all amazing. I also loves the bittersweet and believable romance between Snow and Lucy Gray. It was perfect in every way. I don't think there is really anything big I can critique about this movie. Tom Byth plays ever emotion of snow perfectly, I couldn't take my eyes on off him either hehe. If you are a fan of the hunger games, go see this right now. It definitely lives up to the past ones and is the 2nd best one.
Elemental (2023)
This movie is quite frankly, Eh
Elemental is a movie that just doesn't stick out. Pixar made this one a unoriginal story of opposites attacting and families and community not wanting them together. Not much was stuff hadn't seen before. One of the things that did stick out to me was the animation. Nothing mind boggling but it is one of recent Pixar's best work visual wise. I loved how vivid everything was and the elements driving movements. This movie also made laugh multiple times, which for me is pretty good. Some of those laughs however might have just been cope with the cringe, which this movie has a lot of. Some of the movements that characters make in this movie made my face sickle up. This movie entertained me for a bit, just barely though. You could watch better things in your time but if you really want then this movie would be enough to fill a boring night.
Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile (2022)
Shawn Mendes Crocodile???? Why
This movie is nothing great but it did manage to please me. Except SHAWN FRICKEN MENDES VOICING THE CROCODILE. I don't mind Shawn Mendes, but every time the crocidle sings all I can picture is Shawn Mendes there. WHO IN THIER RIGHT MIND THOUGHT "I want SHAWN MENDES TO VOICE THE CROCODLE." WAY TO CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY DUDE. THIS IS WHAT EVERYONE WANTS! Anyway, I did not like really any of the characters in the first half of this movie. But once Lyle hangs out with them I like them. The animation on the crocodile is actually nice with vivid eye expressions. This was funny in moments, but I mostly laugh of how absurd things are. The downstairs neighboor was unruly annoying and school bullies were unrealistic mean. The minute this kid walked the school he was BOM bullied
I mean good job on the bullies part being on it. Lots stuff annoys me in this movie. I would rate this a 5.5 if I could but I rounded up.
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
Beautiful Visuals along with a Strong Story
This show is visualy stunning. The blend of 2d and 3d animation suits it so well, the action choreography is awesome, and I even had to pause a couple times to admire the beauty.
This show however offers more than just visuals its characters and story are very strong. Just because the show is animated does not mean it will hold out at all. The show deep and intense, the characters have so much that they go through. And all the twist oh man! You will not know what is next and I hope this gets a season 2 that can be as great as the first. I would 100% recommend the first season and hope it helps you appreciate animation more.
Glass Onion (2022)
My First Muder Mystery
This is a sequel but you don't need to see the first to understand this one, I hadn't seem the first and I throughly enjoyed this one. This film had a lot of charm and the mystery was enticing. The movie sets up the murder perfectly. The moments are also perfect in timing. The little problem I do have with this film is that it retells the whole first half in the second half with the backstory behind the murder. It didn't bother me that much though because it was engaging enough to watch again. I did ultimately predict the murderer but the movie confuses you and gets on people on the subject list to leave him of the board again. The climax of this film is exhilarating and a great ending. This film had great twists, acting, and story. I loved this film and has gotten me to watch more murder mysteries.
A Man Called Otto (2022)
Heartwarming, Hilarious, and Hopeful
I thought that I was for sure going to cry going into this movie, but surprisingly didn't. I honestly don't why, I usually can cry at sad movies, but didn't. I don't know if I wasn't invested enough or what.
Anyway this movie tells the story a grumpy old man named Otto, known as the neighborhood crank and his dealing of emotional and mental manners.
Tom Hanks portrays Otto amazing. Him and mis neighbor Marisol, played by Mariana Trevino, have amazing chemistry that bounce of each other so well. Marisol really is the star of this movie, her energy and comedic moments are great. Th whole neighborhood had great comic characters and moments.
Speaking of comedy, this film is hilarious. I laughed so many times and the timing of jokes are great. This film managed to juggle hard emotional beats and comedy wonderfully.
The emotional beats of this film are strong. I somehow managed not to cry. This film uses flashbacks to tell Ottos backstory and they work beautifully at just the right moments. I don't know if it was Tom Hanks's sons bad acting that didn't make me as entranced or what. I think it was the repetition of Otto's "near death" but that was completely valid for the sake of the rest of the film.
I saw this film fumble the most toward the end, it just dragged on a tiny bit, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. The social media person thrown in there in the Dye America scene annoyed me more than it should have. It had plot relevance, but I just didn't like its incorporation.
All in all this is a film that connects you and makes your heart grow 3 sizes (just hope not like Otto's) and will make you feel loved and hopeful. Please go see this movie I highly reccomend it.
Im Westen nichts Neues (2022)
Depressing bold tale
I was interested to watch this movie since we are learning about ww1 in school right now. It was interesting to see the stuff we are learning about. This movie showed the horrors of war, some of the things shown just made my jaw drop. The main character goes through a huge journey and doesn't even get the reward for it in the end. The second half was really where I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. It was incredible with the visuals and in all that happened. I do think there could be more character development, but I also think I think that because I didn't pay attention to their backgrounds. I do love how the view change, you can see the main character's views changing whilst being the war for longer. Great film, educational, and gut wrenching. This movie will leave you thinking.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)
Shrek can still be good?
I was really excited when this movie came out and I finally got around to seeing it. First of the animation of this film is beautiful, the watercolor background and the comic style is great. I can say with this and Bad Guys DreamWorks animation is looking up. This story is heartfelt and loving. I can feel Puss's despair when he was on his last life and the unlimited ending message left of well. This movie jugles 3 villains and I can say handles 2 of those 3 great ( goldilocks and the big fat guy) Goldilocks got a good story and the big fat guy got what was coming to him. The wolf however was left on a undeveloped and odd note. He was portrayed as the main threat and Cillian, but really only appears at the beginning and end and throughout as a shadow taunting Puss. One thing about this movie though is that it is hilarious, made me laugh so many times. All the characters are great and have their funny moments. The story is intriguing and exciting. I love this and would 100% recommend.
Encanto (2021)
"Immaculate "
I did not have high expectations until reading reviews. Afterall Disney has not been consistent for the last 20 years, so you never know what you will get. I was interested to see it in theaters. This movie so charming and made me smile so many times. It made me cry un the first half, which was the first time I ever cried in the first half of a movie. I then proceeded to ball my eyes once the emotional moments came. People have said this movie id boring with out a "villian" but I find really fun. The music is also amazing, I was singing the track for so long. The music also adds a lot, when characters have big moments they use the musical aspects to demonstrate what they are feeling. This had a great and mature message about family pressure, and being "gifted". Great movie for all ages.
