Sisu (2022)
Superb movie
This film is absolute superb. Full of action, gore and tremendous graphics and effects.
Set towards the end of WWII in Finland, and old gold miner is targeted by a group of German soldiers. But this old timer is no ordinary man. He is an expert commando, with a fierce reputation and feared by any who know him.
He is like a WWII Rambo but more believable. This guy is insane! It's captivating right to the very end.
This is a must see movie as long as you don't mind some gore of course. Give it a go, you will not be disappointed. 90 minutes or entertainment, action, amazing effects and much more.
Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase (2019)
Sophia steals the show again
First of all, I just love Sophia Lillis and every movie she has been in. This was my first experience with the character Nancy Drew though.
Sophia is an excellent actress and makes this movie good from start to finish.
The movie itself reminds me of a Scooby Doo episode. It's a ghost story full of twists and turns with a whodunit of the highest degree. I kept expecting Shaggy and Daphne to make an appearance.
I'm not a youngster, so the movie should not be on my radar but I found it highly enjoyable.
If you enjoy a good mystery with a touch of comedy, then you could do worse than give this one a try.
Freaky (2020)
Surprisingly very goof
I decided to watch this thinking it will be a poor effort but surprisingly it's actually very good.
It has a good story even if it is far fetched but it just works. Some good effects and gore and the acting is more than acceptable.
The comedy is superb, which bonds well with the thrills and horror.
If you fancy a good all rounder, you will love this movie.
I particularly enjoyed Kathryn Newton, Celeste O'connor and Vince Vaughn's performances.
For me this is one of the best movies on Netflix in 2023.
Maybe they will deliver a Freaky 2 for us to enjoy.
Take this movie in now. You will not be disappointed.
Pearl (2022)
A murderous thriller
Pearl played by the brilliant Mia Goth has everything a thriller or horror should have. Despite it being slow to start with, the movie comes to life as Pearl tries to realise her dream of becoming a stage dancer.
And then it really does come to life, leaving you wondering what this girl will do next.
Mia puts in an awesome performance, of a mentally ill misfit from start to finish.
She lives on a farm with her parents while her husband is away in Europe during the first world war. To say she loses the plot is an understatement.
If you like thrillers or horrors, this might just be for you. Give it a go.
My House (2023)
Slow, very slow
Yup it's slow. Was struggling not to fall asleep during the movie.
I loved Mirren Mack in Sex Education and she does a fine job in this too. But there are flaws in that she doesn't know what the Internet is, yet managed to perfect using a mobile phone in no time at all.
The movie is almost100% filmed on a home camera, which is a pain.
Its difficult to find anything good about the film, other than Mirren Mack, plays her part well.
I wouldn't say don't watch this slow moving drama but I wouldn't go out my way to see it.
Just remember it's slow from start to finish but if that's your thing, give it a go.
Men (2022)
Slow moving with not too much horror
I was looking forward to this movie after reading great reviews. However it turned out to be a bit of a wet blanket, lacking any sort or horror.
I love Rory Kinnear as an actor and he doesn't let himself down with his many different characters. Jessie Buckley also plays her part well.
But the movie is billed as a thriller and horror and that's where it fails. There isn't a single scene that I would describe as scary.
That aside, the movie does pass as interesting in an odd way.
If you're a horror fan then give this a miss. If you're expecting nudity, sex, violence I'd also give it a miss.
As horrors go it's dire.
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023)
Silly idea but it works
I am surprised at the negative reviews given for this movie. Yes it's a really silly idea but the movie works.
What I liked about it was the methods used to kill the victims are different from most slasher style films.
The hardest thing was following who was dead and who was alive until nearer the end.
And it looks like there could be a follow up.
Its rare these days to see a horror with some gore and the film delivers, although I won't go into how the kills are carried out.
If horror movies is your thing, this silly idea for a movie could be right up your street. Give a try, you never know you may be surprised.
Eva Lasting (2023)
Some weird reviews on here
I saw someone say its like Stranger Things. Not even close. Another said it was the best thing they had ever seen??
It's OK but the truth be told its about a beautiful Columbian girl and six or seven really ugly Columbian talentless boys who fancy her.
Its dubbed badly into English too.
All this aside, it's watchable but only because you want to know who gets Eva, if anyone.
The story line is OK but not fantastic.
I found it hard to imagine that someone as beautiful as Eva would ever consider being friends with these school boys.
If you're looking for stranger things Columbian style you will be sadly disappointed. It's is not science fiction.
