Laila Majnu (2018)
Hard hitting - must watch...
This isn't a typical commercial film. One needs a different taste and vantage point to appreciate it. Great music, beautiful locations...adaptation of classic story of Layla-Majnun, orchestrated with a modern twists and situations yet preserves the very essence of the original one, only Imtiaz and Sajid duo could have done justice to it.
Triptii has been a brilliant performer throughout, and Avinash keeps you literally spellbound!!! He has put life in the character, one can't ignore the hard work that must have gone in. Fantastic...
The story does run tad slower but if you can pull through some drag in the beginning, the precious performances in the second half will surely make that all worthwhile.
Not to be missed.
Baban (2018)
Alternate end would have worked well
Phenomenal acting by all major characters, overall awesome plot development, intense story that connects well, near real situations and locations, Baban appears a real life character, one can like easily and empathize. Baban's struggle is pragmatic, sometimes so real and difficult that your heart don't want to watch and accept it.
In my view, the opening scene wasn't necessary. I would have rather liked an alternate ending where Baban moves to a bigger city in search of a better life and takes up a makeshift job to make livelihood and gives up his dreams of being an entrepreneur. What happened with leading lady at the beginning and end was too harsh to watch and accept, even though the possibility of it happening in real world.
Characters played by Baban, his entire family and fling girlfriend (not the lead actress) are way par excellence
It's a good watch for someone who likes real content and not only commercial entertainment.
