Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)
Not as good as the past two but still as funny as hell!
I saw it last night on the opening day. I watched the Austin Powers TRL, I admit. I thought it was hilarious in the beginning. (The movie) I won't say anything because it is so freaking funny! *is cracking up just thinking about it* The crude, bathroom humor doesn't stop throughout the movie but I was laughing/cringing/covering my eyes. Fat Bastard is naked. GROSS!!!! Beyonce acts really well as the sexy Foxxy Cleopatra, and Verne Troyer as Mini-Me is hilarious. Goldmember is absolutely hilarious and disgusting. Scott Evil is slowly turning evil. Spoofing You Only Live Twice and Goldfinger mercilessly throughout the movie, it has a totally unbelievable ending that shocked the whole theater. Out of five stars I give it a 3.
Get a Clue (2002)
Shallow But OK
Get a Clue is not a movie for people looking for depth in characters. Lexy Gold and her best friend Jennifer are hopelessly shallow because their parents are rich and they live in Madison Ave. stores. Not literally of course. Get a Clue is a fairly short movie but the plot develops rather quickly and Lexy explains everything too fast. You'll have to see the movie to see what I mean, though. Poor Amanda Plummer and the guy who plays Mr. Walker, they act so
badly, I almost feel bad for them. Plummer's tragic looks don't help either.
So see this movie if you're in for fluff and not much substance.
Spider-Man (2002)
What A Superhero!
I saw this yesterday (May 3rd, opening night) and I was completely blown away. I didn't expect this to be a good movie at all, oh, this is a stupid overblown hit-and-miss. Boy was I wrong!
Tobey Maguire plays the part of nerdy Peter Parker so eloquently, you actually can't tell the difference between the actor and character. Kirsten Dunst also acts extremely well as Mary Jane Watson, Peter's love interest. If typecasting is a crime, then Stephen Raimi should be sent straight to jail. Everyone plays their part very well.
**SPOILERS** However, the diologue is very comic-book-like, (i.e. dramatic, over the top) especially when Peter talks to Mary Jane about Spiderman looking into M.J.'s eyes, you just want to shield YOUR eyes, it's so cheesy. In fact, that's what I did. Also, the plot is kind of trite, I mean, Mary Jane nearly gets killed 3 times yet she still has a sunny outlook on things.
The special effects are awesome, and if you see Spiderman in a theater with DTS, when Norman Osborn is talking to his evil alter ego, the whispering is very lifelike. Also, when Norman is experiencing a flashback from a murder he doesn't remember commiting, in the theater, one person screamed out loud!
I strongly recommend you view this masterpiece!
Hunchback of Notre Dame (1998)
Good, I guess
It was funny, but really sad and kind of disturbing. Especially all the interaction between Esmeralda and Frollo. . . it was kind of bizarre. But I liked how kind Quasimodo was in spite of the way almost everybody thought him a freak.
Peter Pan (1953)
Believe in the magic!
When I first saw Peter Pan, I was in love. In the true Disney-era '50s opening sequence, I got goosebumps.
The cheesy credits were so cute. IMO, at least. The storyline is great, and besides, flying?!?!?! Me and my sister always tried to fly, always failing, but it's so cool to watch Wendy, John, and Michael.
But the sexism and racial stereotypes in Neverland shouldn't have been portrayed as ok. After all, Native Americans are people too.
But I gave this movie a 10 and is one of my favorite movies.
