Road House (2024)
Blah House
The original Road House is a classic with exciting action scenes and memorable characters and some profane dialog.
The new version is a bland mess with CGI fights that overstays it's welcome by thirty minutes and then slaps it's audience in the face with an inane mid credits scene thats insulting instead of funny.
Jake is okay in the lead, but there's no way someone so mild mannered as his character would also be a blood thirsty killer.
The studio picked the wrong director for the job on this one. What should have been a simple bust em up pic is turned into a bland epic actioner that's highly forgettable and pointless.
Too many characters. Too much CGI. Bad CGI, and boring characters make this Roadhouse worthy of driving by without stopping at.
The Bricklayer (2023)
Fun while it's on. Not high art but very enjoyable.
I don't know what people expected from this film. Sure it's not Did Hard or anything, but it's a serviceable thriller while it's on and the action scenes are good and Eckhart is immensely watchable.
If you go into Bricklayer expecting high art or Oscar worthy performances, you'll be bitterly disappointed. If you going wanting a nice little thriller with domd good action scenes and a cool hero, you should be entertained.
I paid twenty bucks to watch this and I was quite happy by the end. Renny Harlins direction is sharp and Eckhart is perfect. My only gripe is the midsection dragged but that's it.
I've seen bigger budgeted films that were awful compared to this. Give it a go. It ain't that bad.
Saltburn (2023)
Boring and pretentious.
How could the director Promising Young Woman make such a dull, lifeless film about dull, lifeless people?
Anyone claiming to think this film is masterful, obviously only sees the superficial attributes this indulgent mess has to offer.
No character is fun or likeable or memorable and the it goes on forever! The direction is is aimless and it's one of those "we're hip and cool" movies that's shot in a long gone aspect ratio for the sake of drawing attention to itself.
Unlike PYW, you will walk away from Saltwash with no feelings. No memories. Just indifference. If that was the intent, well done. But who wants to pay $15 bucks to feel nothing but boredom?
Talk about a sophomore slump.
