Reign of Fire (2002)
This movie was tooo incomplete to enjoy
I have to agree with many comments posted here previously. This story had the potential to be great...potential to combine great technology and special effects with an EXCITING story, that would, if nothing less, be thrilling at times and a "fun" movie to watch. SPOILERS AHEAD Unfortunately, even from the very first scenes, I was angered by how dumb this movie was. I was excited to see ALICE KRIGE listed in the credits..but yet, a talented actress like herself only managed about 5 lines in the beginning. Also...I could have sworn the movie BEGAN in 2084, but then flashed forward to something like 2020?? For 10 minutes, my husband and myself tried to figure out what was going on...if Quinn was the little boy...yada yada...
The dragon effects were OK...not as disappointing as some special effects recently. Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale had a great relationship in the film...could have been expanded if they had completely left out the character ALEX...she was just blonde filler.
This movie had so many gaps, I found myself trying to put them together. Whenever watching a movie is WORK like that...you know something is wrong.
Thirteen Conversations About One Thing (2001)
Well done...thoughtful picture
I also found this movie very refreshing..and extremely thought-provoking. The search for happiness, fairness, and self-preservation is a topic that MUST be approached in a certain manner to make it successful...and 13 Conversations does that.
I was impressed with Matthew McConaughey's portrayal..I didn't think he had it in him...extremely good role for him. Arkin was wonderful as usual...he could have carried the entire movie.
Well done!
Ice Age (2002)
Skip this movie
I read through the comments, immediately after FORCING myself to watch this film...this was without a doubt, the most boring cartoon I have ever sat through. I did not care at ALL about the characters...they had no personalities, no character traits to make you excited when they begin a line, or begin a joke. I agree the squirrel creature with it's acorn was a little amusing..but I'd already seen it 40 times in the movie trailer.
I think Ray Romano, Denis Leary, and John Leguizamo did the best they could with the script...but I bet they were picturing better graphics. I thought the creatures were all LESS than lifelike..especially the humans. They looked exactly like characters in PC video games..which are mass produced, and I'm sure with LESS budget than Fox decided to spend on this movie.
Kids might enjoy it..but not many kids I know. If you need to amuse children....try Monster's Inc...or any disney flick. If you are an adult looking for a great, moving film...try Shrek or Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. This DVD rental was a waste..thank goodness I used a coupon!

Pure Luck (1991)
Thumbs Up
I have enjoyed this movie for many years. As a huge Martin Short fan, I realize that you have to have a certain type of humor to really enjoy his movies. So if you're wondering if you'll enjoy PURE LUCK, just think if you've enjoyed his other films. This film, as many of Short's films, relies pretty heavily on physical comedy and situational humor. But the storyline IS neat, I think it's funny to those who don't really know much about Martin Short. My husband saw the film for the first time today and laughed out loud at many scenes...and he doesn't usually do that. So, in my opinion, PURE LUCK is fun, lighthearted, and a pretty good example of Martin Short humor. Danny Glover is a great straight man, and this is an overall great, feel-good movie.
