Summer of 84 (2018)
Potentially interesting subject but bad script
The subject and time setting in the mid-1980s are interesting and could have left room for interesting narrative development. Unfortunately, the screenplay falls down as the fil goes on until it becomes really bad in the second half of the film. Some scenes are almost absurd and not believable at all. The screenwriters, perhaps running out of ideas, took cues from some past films but honestly could have done without them. The actors work quite well as does the direction. The night scenes are too dark, a very bad fashion in recent years, and do not make it clear what is going on. Editing and sets are decent as is the music. Too bad, a missed opportunity. It would be worth a complete redo.
17 Again (2009)
A wasted opportunity
Good subject, disappointing screenplay. This film is a wasted opportunity. The story could have given act to so many funny situations that only partially find their place in the film. Zac Enron is not very believable as a 17-year-old (he was 21 when he made this film and it shows). Il personaggio dell'amico di Zac, che lo ospita, non è abbozzato bene e così come è non è credibile e per questo non molto divertente. The direction is a bit muddled and lacks creativity. Still a good family film. Simple but good music score. It almost seems like a hastily made film with little attention. Too bad. Maybe a better remake could be considered in the future.
Call Me by Your Name (2017)
Very overrated. Appropriate setting. Characters not very believable. A little too long and slow.
The main character, Elio, is definitely bisexual in that he can go in a matter of hours from a fiery sexual relationship with a girl to Oliver's arms.
Elio is supposed to be seventeen but the actor who plays him was twenty-two when the film was made and it shows.
The setting in the early 1980s in a small town in northern Italy is evocative and certainly contributed to the film's success in the United States (Americans really like these kinds of locations).
The direction is insecure at times as is the editing.
Certainly the film is too long and slow: at least a five minutes should be removed from the total running time.
Some of the dialogue is good, some less so. One almost gets the impression that different hands intervened in the final writing of the script.
The story is not very real and at times has a fairy tale feel to it.
As for the scenic department, some of the cars seen in the various scenes are a bit too old for the early 1980s, as is the train car in which Oliver gets on at the end of the film (they were in use a decade earlier).
To conclude a film that, in my opinion, seen again in a few years, will be easier to understand its limitations.
Proximity (2020)
The second part of the movie is bad
The subject could have been interesting and with possibilities but this movie has a big problem: the beginning is good, the middle part so-so, the final part is very bad. Good special effects and partially wrong the choice of the main actor. His acting sometimes is not very good and he doesn't have the right "face" for the part. In general a missed opportunity.
Good Boys (2019)
One of the worst movies of 2019
One of the worst movies of 2019. Bad and stupid script. Unbelievable that Universal could have produced it. The only good thing about this movie is that it makes the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series look like a movie for intellectuals. Absolutely avoidable.
Maya (1966)
Very bad screenplay and bad directed
The movie could be more good but the number one problem is the bad screenplay. The story and script are terrible. One example: when Terry has to escape from the jaguar right where he needs find a boat. After he has a fight with his father he takes the train to go home but immediately jumps off. Why? A mistery. If he had run off into the jungle after his father killed his friend jaguar would have been more believable. By the way: why did his father kill his jaguar? Another mystery. It is almost a miracle that after this so bad film they managed to produce a series that instead is undoubtedly better. At least this avoidable film has served some purpose.
Luis & the Aliens (2018)
A very nice movie
A good movie being made for love and not only for business Good characters and with a simple but refined storyline with lots of fun scenes. Children will like it, but not only them. I recommend watching it.
Stranger Things (2016)
Going down
The first season is intelligent, smart and original. The second one has less ideas and the screenplay is so so but overall can be ok. The third season is terrible: the screenplay is at the level of a B or C movie. Some scenes are terrible longs and especially the last three episodes are really terrible.
Les galapiats (1970)
One of the best European TV movie for young people ever made
Perhaps seen now it may seem a little dated but when it was done in 1969 it was a great success among all young Europeans. Basically a treasure hunt by a group of young French and Belgians during a summer. Those who wrote it have cleverly included in history all the elements that might please the youngest of the time: castles, Japanese motorcycles, remote-controlled planes, helicopters, bandits, gold bars, etc.. It was probably shot on 16mm and in color during the summer of 1969 all in real places. Many current screenwriters can learn how to write a very good adventure tv series for teeens.
Battleship (2012)
A good popcorn movie
Sure, it's a popcorn movie, but it's a good one. Good direction, very good special effects and visually satisfying. Some good jokes and lines. Too bad it cost too much and generated losses otherwise we would have had the pleasure of seeing a sequel.
The Sentinel (2006)
A good film that gets worse at the end
A good movie even if it doesn't contain many original elements. Good actors and good editing. Also good music. The story is not very original but up to 3/4 of the movie everything works ok. In the last quarter everything gets worse almost as if it was done by another screenwriter and another director. Too bad. However overall an honest film and better than many others.
Area 51 (2015)
Start well but end in terrible way.
The first part is good, the center part is bad, the end part is terrible. If you like UFOs stay away. If you don't like ufos watch some other movie.
The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)
A very bad story with a very poor screenplay
The question is:: why make a movie like this? The story is very bad, like a "B" SF movie, and the screenplay is poor. There are zero new ideas. There are scenes that came from Philadelphia Experiment, some from Alien, and so on. It is a total non sense from start to end. A movie that was better if remained only on paper.
Stranger Things (2016)
Going down

The third season is terrible: the screenplay is at the level of a B or C movie. Some scenes are terrible longs and especially the last three episodes are really terrible.
Dark (2017)
A very good tv series.
This is a very good tv series about time travels. If Back To The Future is a comedy this is a mystery-drama. Very good screenplay and very well directed. The locations has personality. The actors are very good. Music has a strong personality too and creates the right atmosphere. Netflix needs desperately more productions of this quality.
Inception (2010)
It could have been perfect if it had been five minutes shorter.
The movie is very good. It could have been perfect if it had been five minutes shorter. Some scenes at around 3/4 of the movie are redundant.
First Man (2018)
Slow and bored
It's a slow movie and a bored one. The action scenes are not so action too. Too many family scenes of little interest. A lost opportunity and probably a movie that could not even be made.
The Karate Kid Part II (1986)
A screenplay without any surprise and incredibly slow.
The first Karate Kid had, for the time, some new ideas and was a movie with a heart. In the second one no new ideas but the biggest problem is that is incredibly slow (and bored).
Mission: Impossible II (2000)
Probably the worst in the series
Poor story and poor script. Very slow in the first part and too much repetitive action in the second (the fight scenes of are extremely long and somewhat boring). Probably the worst movie in the series.
Encounter (2018)
Like a SF B movie of the '50.
Poor idea and poor screenplay. The alien seems to have come out from a low-budget SF film from the 1950s. If really you like science fiction, maybe you shouldn't see this movie.
Salvation (2017)
First season good, second season terrible.
The first season is good. In the second season the screenplay is terrible. It is a pity.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018)
A good movie if It came back to the editing room
The third episode of this saga is well filmed and contains many interesting sequences. The problem is that it should return to the editing room. At the moment it's too slow and redundant. You should take off at least five/ten minutes to give it more rhythm. I hope that sooner or later the director will be able to do it and give us a "director cut" that could improve this film a lot.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)
Very slow and very boring.
Bad screenplay, very slow and very boring. The only way to save this movie is to come back to the edit room and let on the floor not less of 20 minutes.
