Haul Out the Holly (2022)
I wanted to like it...
Unlike many of these Christmas Hallmark movies, this one had quite a few stars or at least former stars in its cast, not a lot of random Canadian actors. So I had high hopes going into it. But honestly my anxieties were in full force within the first 30 minutes. Poor Lacey Chabert is completely bullied and forced into doing all these "fun" Christmas activities totally against her will. She's just too nice because if it had been me I would have packed my bags and left after the very first bully got in my face. It was stressful rather than enjoyable. I just couldn't finish watching it. I don't know if there's going to be some great lesson learned at the end, but it's not worth going through this stress to find out. I wouldn't recommend it.
A Christmas... Present (2022)
A Christmas...Perfect!
Really great, just what a Christmas movie should be. A lovely, heartwarming family story, that accents the deeper meaning of the holiday. Sweet and refreshing, well worth watching. It has many of the usual tropes, but goes way beyond what we've been seeing from newer movies in the last few years. Loved the leads, even the kids were great, not at all annoying as so many Christmas movie children tend to be. Parts of it actually brought tears to my eyes. The music was great as well, beautiful songs you don't generally hear in other modern Christmas movies. We'll watch it again next year and beyond. You should watch it too!
The Good Doctor: My Way (2022)
Why? Why? Why?
Why do they make women such insufferable idiots? Not all women think that men are bad. But this episode was so terrible. The show has been going downhill, and this was the crash at the bottom. Glassman was in no way even remotely sexist. If anything, those ridiculous creepy women were behaving in the most sexist way possible and should all be fired. I can't stand to look at them. I'm a normal woman and I'm glad to live in a world with strong smart men. Since there are none on this show anymore, I think I'm done watching.
No Reservations (2007)
Maybe I Expected Too Much . . .
When I saw the trailers for this movie, it looked like a good romantic comedy. I expected some light fluffy fun. Instead, I was bored and a little depressed.
Honestly, there was no chemistry between the leads at all, and the movie had little, if anything, that was funny about it. The little girl was adorable - when she cried, I cried - but I thought they might have used someone a little bit younger in the role.
Either way, the movie was filled with long, dull silences or swelling opera music. I'm not anti-opera, but I would have preferred them to spend that time letting us get to know the characters, who were all stiff and underdeveloped.
I was really disappointed in this movie. The whole time I watched it I kept thinking of how much better it could have been.
Accepted (2006)
I Love This Movie!!
Accepted is definitely worth a watch. I'm a big fan of the "underdog beats out overachiever" kinda movies and this fits that bill perfectly. Also, I love that Accepted is funny without being trashy. I don't care for gratuitous swearing and sex in movies and generally, there's just too much of both these days.
The idea isn't totally original, its a bit like Animal House, in that the "good guys" are the underachieving losers, and the "bad guys" are the preppie, college frat boys. But it also has its original points, as well. And its funny.
Look, if you're expecting something deep and meaningful, its probably not for you, if you want lots of gross humor and nudity, don't bother with this one, but you just want fun and frolics, with interesting, well acted characters and a solid plot, you'll want to watch Accepted.
Cool Money (2005)
Very interesting.
I thought the movie was pretty good. I agree that they did take some license with actual facts (Rochester Downs, should have been Batavia Downs). I believe that they did that in order to remain within a fairly small budget. Overall, I really liked the film. It was interesting and although it was not action packed, it didn't ever seem to move slowly. The characters were very believable and the dialogue was real. All the actors did a great job in making you want to root for the bad guys. It certainly made me interested in finding out more about the actual events on which it was based. Also, having James Marsters in the lead role didn't hurt at all.
