Forerunners (2003)
Another look at women fight
This film shows the courage of three girls who dream to change their lives by playing soccer game in Israel. It is so touching and well crafted. The director manages to get us into the mind and the body of these three women. The breakthrough is their courage and tenacity. There's also an extraordinary character in the person of the trainer. He is so strong and fragile and give his best (I can't say the end of the film) for them to succeed in creating a true women soccer team. It must have taken a long time to shoot this film because it covers the whole season. Anyone who is interested in soccer and social progress should see this amazing film and pass on to everyone. It is a lesson for us all. And give a different light on Israel.
Odessa... Odessa! (2005)
An human story
very well directed, beautiful picture, an authentic sense of poetic rapture. It found a way to avoid cliché when crossing the old subject of Jews in exile. It found a profound form in three part that are like a mind trip in very subtle variations. It has the ability to take us from the depth of Europe to the States crossing the middle east. It is a tale between regrets, illusion and lost dream, without ever being sad or pathetic, without ever trying to overwhelm the subject by going over the top. It keeps the right distance and knows well how to say this story. It is like an old song without being nostalgic, it's face its subject, always showing its truth. Boganim didn't avoid what she wanted to tell us. She is one of the most promising director in her field.
