The Happening (2008)
All the hype aside, still a good show
M. Night Shyamalan's hype and standard probably did him little justice in this film. The ratings I saw on IMDb seemed on target with how I felt with the movie.
The acting seemed a little uneasy at times, I just found it hard to see Mark Wahlberg as a school teacher. Betty Buckley's character in the film was one of the stronger performances and really moved the opening day crowd I saw at the theater.
The movie keeps you on edge at times and has some very interesting and creative death scenes.
This is one of those movies, that after you watch it, you ask your friends, "wow, what if that really happened? What would you do?".
À l'intérieur (2007)
A gem of a horror movie
Upside: I really cannot think of a more grizzly horror movie that I have ever seen. I know many do exist, but for something you just happen to find at a local Best Buy, all I can say is wow. This movie will more than likely make you cringe.
Downside: I felt the movie was far'fetched at times. Be prepared if you don't understand the French language and turn the subtitles on.
Overall: 8/10. I think this was a solid movie with good twists. Honestly, it is probably way too grizzly for any children to be watching. It is at least worth a checkout at the local blockbuster, although I think it would look good in any horror collection.
Broken (2006)
Solid horror flick
Upside: I enjoyed this movie throughout. The box art always caught my eyes and I do say, break the stitches to see the sight for sore eyes. When I watched the movie, I made a comparison that this movie was a combination of 'Saw' and 'Wolf Creek'. If you have ever heard of 'Stockholm Syndrome', this movie's plot fits its very definition.
Downside: The camera angles are a little strange at times, I wanted to say something like a soap opera. I will also point out that sometimes the lead actor overacts her part, to the point where I laughed. Considering the circumstances at the time and the horror around her, I really should not have even chuckled.
Overall: I gave it a 7/10. I would say watch it, put it in the dusty DVD rack and break it out from occasion to make a few friends lose their lunch. If you cannot handle or understand a grizzly horror film, don't waste your time.
