Time for Him to Come Home for Christmas (2022)
Aside from the title this is excellent!
I'm just going to say it, I think Candace Cameron Bure has been holding Hallmark back all these years! Since she left they have started making some really excellent stories that break the formula and deliver really heartfelt films that I can't wait to watch again.
This is the second film this year with Tyler Hynes in it, that has moved me to tears, he does pain and anguish really well.
I hope that Hallmark will continue to build on this year of excellence.
One last thing, Hallmark really need to work on their titles, I genuinely thought this was a parody, rather than the real thing. If my life depended on it, I don't think I could name this movie and I watched it 15 minutes ago.
Three Wise Men and a Baby (2022)
Hallmark's very best.
Seriously Hallmark, please commission Kimberley Sustad and Paul Campbell to write a lot more movies, not only are they two of your finest actors, this is the best movie you've ever made. All the characters feel so real and I love the relationship development between the brothers as the story progresses. I also loved that it didn't feel formulaic, and it really made a nice change for the story to be centred around the male characters.
I have never laughed this hard at a Hallmark movie. I hope this marks the beginning of a new era of great, funny, heartfelt and real movies, this is what I want for the future of Hallmark movies.
A Year from Now (2021)
Amateur Hour
I can only assume that everyone in this movie was closely related to whoever financed this debacle. To say the acting is bad is like saying Star Wars is a bit popular.
Avoid at all costs.
The Royal Treatment (2022)
Genuinely one of the worst things ever written.
This was clearly green lit to grab a bit of the Hallmark movie audience share, but any script that can deliver the lines "I saw some injustices" "oh Isabella. You and your injustices!" should never have made it past a quick glance by an intern.
An eight year old would have written a less cliché ridden plot. Avoid at all costs.
Love Strikes Twice (2021)
Just Brilliant!
This is the best Hallmark movie I have seen in years, possibly ever! I was not expecting such a great story and character development. Katie Findlay was wonderful, a perfect balance of smart, funny and kind. She had such a fantastic character to work with,
I LOVED all the courtroom scenes, they felt real, it wasn't the usual Hallmark schtick, where a judge rules using human decency as the arbiter of what is the law, this character went into the courtroom and was a really good, grown up lawyer, I actually preferred her courtroom scenes to the romance, and I liked that a lot too!
PLEASE Hallmark, pay C Jay Cox a lot of money to write more movies for you. He's excellent.
A Christmas Hero (2020)
So depressing.
If you look at the poster and think this is going to be a typical Christmas romance movie, you are going to be bitterly disappointed.
It's a PTSD version of Christmas Carol, the main character is back from Afghanistan and struggling with his mental health. He has pushed away everyone who cares for him, including his wife & new boss. When he reaches his lowest point, his guardian Angel steps in to give him a glimpse of his past & future.
The movie was clearly made on a budget of about $8 & I suspect most of the actors are friends & family, or real staff members of the air museum the lead works at, they fluff their lines and seem very awkward through out.
The lead is a good actor, but the plot doesn't give him much to work with.
All in all I would say this movie is best avoided if you are looking for anything joyful.
A New York Christmas Wedding (2020)
Meh
The plot is sweet, but the acting is painfully bad, and the leads have the romantic chemistry of damp socks.
Christmas Lodge (2011)
Excruciating
They jammed god into every plot hole & crummy line they could. It's unbearable. Run screaming in the opposite direction.
12 Pups of Christmas (2019)
Extraordinarily Bad.
I love Hallmark & Hallmark-esque movies, which should tell you I can tolerate some absolute nonsense, but this has got to be one of the worst movies ever made. Its such a stinker, it makes the average Hallmark movie look like Oscar bait.
The lead actress does actual Joey Tribbiani "smell the fart" acting and the plot has so many holes you could grate cheese with it.
I was so incensed by how bad this movie was, I restarted my IMDB account just to leave this review. Learn from my mistakes and avoid this like the plague.
