O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
Another great one from Coen brothers
Homer's Odyssey's thoughtful version of Coen brothers. The blind man on rail track......The three girls(Goddess Kirke).....Devil's chase...a long journey towards home.
Of course great comedy...of course great acting by the trio....and of course great songs......including "man of constant sorrow". LoL...I love Clooney's care for his hair.....and the horse on dinner killed last Tuesday.
Furthermore what I personally love in good movies the great "Cinematography".
Cheers! The Soggy Bottom Boys are here!!!!
L.A. Confidential (1997)
An Example of it's kind
It's hell of a kind of those 90's shoot first talk later movies. I first watched it as a kid. Since I watched it again, I thought to add some words about it here. Some good things that I recall right now about this movie......Excellent character interactions....very good character build-ups especially of Guy Pearce........The bloody Christmas scene was greatly done by camera(I think it was a challenge for the camera to find the perfect spots in that narrow passage). Russell Crowe was just perfect character. Each crime scene had very good camera introduction. "Rollo Tomasi" was probably an original concept, because I never saw this particular verbal identification of such type of criminals in any other movies. I think any more words will turn this into a spoiler. So, Watch The Movie If you like action and mystery in crime scenario. More interaction from Kevin Spacey in the story, would have make it better though. :D
Uttara (2000)
Another great film from a not so popular Indian Director
Buddhadev Dasgupta is among the very few who don't love publicity at all..........But that is certainly a drawback for this wonderful talent from Bengal.
Most art film directors in Bengal have to work with instruments of prehistoric age due to insufficient fund age so that is reflected on the movie experience. BUT....look at the camera angles...look how each character is placed...moving..entering into the camera view.....especially the frequent insertion of many great Bengali folk songs...and the characters entering into the scene singing...
Wonderful acting....Wonderful folk songs....and an artistic building of story line...this movie is great if you love art film.
Bow Barracks Forever (2004)
The birth of hope in place of despair
Yet another film from Anjan Dutta where the central part is the Anglo Indian Community of Kolkata, it tells their story that is Now.
The current changing scenario in Kolkata and the long wish of the Anglo Indian community to return to their root which has been told in many Indian Cinema...........The questions that come to mind are- what is the root? What will they identify as their root? The movie never left Bow Barracks except to show an accident. Yes the whole movie was made inside and just outside the building. The powerful and fast story never let us feel that.
Most of the characters did their job well, but above all the director Anjan Dutta impressed us as always. The style of revealing the angle of views of the characters of the same place, at the same time is really impressive.
As anymore writing can turn this comment to a spoiler..........so the conclusion is that it is a 'must watch' movie.
