Son of God (2014)
This movie will touch hearts and inspire people to read the Gospels to learn more about Jesus
Yes, I would have loved it if this movie cited more scriptures and highlighted more of His miracles but what was there was anointed, inspirational and will motivate people to learn more about the Son of God. I really liked how this film captured His interactions with the disciples after the resurrection and up to His Ascension into heaven 40 days later. I also thought Jesus appearing to John at the very end was powerful and moving. Indeed, Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, The First and The Last, The Beginning and the End, The Lion of the Tribe of Judah, and The Bright and Morning Star! Now, I really hope a big Hollywood studio makes a movie about how Saul of Tarsus became the great Apostle Paul. That movie would be something to behold, especially if it covers all of Paul's adventures, travels, trials, tribulations, and victories using today's special and visual effect capabilities!
The Pharmacist (2012)
This film is a definite thumbs up!!!
The Pharmacist is a short film produced by Michael Cassidy and Iqbal Mohammed and directed by Paula Wood which has several compelling motifs, primarily the myth of the American Dream. The sub text is man's fear of being replaced by the relentless encroachment of technology.
From the opening scene to the surprising finish it evokes an emotional response from the audience. The pharmacist, deftly played by Matthew Gulbranson, is a modern Willy Loman not quite defeated by a ho-hum existence until he encounters the machine Green Cross which will dispense medicine efficiently but without heart.
The pharmacist, Hal, desperately wants to believe that what he does as a dispenser of medicine for megrims still matters in the human equation even though he suffers lack of respect from his teenage son Adam, played by Jesse Robinson, and his boss, Mr Jarvis, played by Michael Gabel, and suffers a job steeped in tedium.
Into the drugstore comes the flotsam and jetsam of humanity who line up to get their prescriptions: the middle aged woman, Ms Ringleberg, played by Mary Suib, with insurance payment anxieties; a mentally challenged and phobic young man, Mr. Rumus, played by John C. Bailey, who is terrified of life and dependent on medicine. The pharmacist treats all kindly. Surely his compassion and effectiveness matter. He tolerates even his teen-aged assistant, April, who manages to count pills, chew gum, and chat up her girlfriend on the cell all at the same time. She is perfectly played by Allison Howard.
Now enters the boss, Mr. Jarvis, a character you love to hate, who cares only for the profit bottom line rather than the people he serves. He comes with the machine Green Cross which is designed to effectively boost the profit margin. There is only one thing this beleaguered pharmacist Hal can do, gum up the machine. And so black comedy erupts to shatter the mirror reflecting ourselves.
Viewers can watch The Pharmacist and relate to their own fears, phobias, compromised ideals, and missed opportunities. This is a cautionary tale. Underlying all of our human frailty, is the only hope, a pill? Is the only response to laugh at our dreams as well as at our foibles?
This film is a definite thumbs up!!!

Pacific Rim (2013)
Science Fiction on Peyote
Pacific Rim: Science fiction for Smurfs or something. Ridiculous, boring, trite, with silly writing. It was like watching 'Rockem Sockem' robots come to life and attack imaginary alien sea creatures. I think they hooked up brain scanners to a couple of 7 year-old kids playing with their toys and recorded their deepest thoughts. Wouldn't it just be more cost effective to fire tactical nuclear weapons at these creatures instead of building, well, 'buildings' to fight against them? And why are these Jaegers manned with people on board? Really? Why not use our drone, predator technology and control them remotely? I had to leave halfway through and go watch 'The Lone Ranger' which is an entertaining movie.
Malice (2012)
Amazing Production Quality - Ready for Prime Time
Malice is an original and innovative series with great direction, beautiful photography, stellar performances, amazing special effects, and great sound design that draws you in and holds your attention from the on-set. Malice is about the Turner Family and their supernatural adventures in an old Virginia house. Nate Turner, (Mark Hyde) is a Navy SEAL who has just returned from a combat tour in Afghanistan to reunite with his recovering alcoholic wife Jesse (Leanna Chamish) and his two daughters Abbey, age 17 (Rebekkah Johnson), and sixteen year old Alice (Brittany Martz). The family inherits the house where mom grew up after Jesse's mother passes away and they all decide to relocate hoping that a change of venue with a new community and school will salvage their troubled lives. The action starts on the very first day after they arrive as strange and mysterious happenings start to manifest around them from the very foundations of the house. Ghostly figures peer through the windows, the plumbing goes haywire, strange foreboding writings and warnings appear on the walls, and then Mom wanders off in the night and vanishes. A few days later Dad and older sister Abbey also go missing and then it falls on the shoulders of Alice, with the help of a mysterious stranger, Jed Spry (Matthew James Gulbranson), to solve the mystery of what happened and why. I thoroughly enjoyed Malice and I can't wait for the upcoming sequel 'Metamorphosis!'
The Lone Ranger (2013)
1960's Style Disney Fun Film
I have watched this movie twice now and loved it even more the second time as I was able to pick up a few nuances and details that I missed originally. I really enjoy this movie for its pure entertainment value and how it uplifts your spirit like the movies and TV series of yesteryear such as High Noon, Swiss Family Robinson, Davy Crockett, The Rifleman, and Daniel Boone. It impacts you emotionally when you watch and it has witty, subtle humor, great action sequences, excellent photography, amazing theme music, and costumes and makeup that really capture the dusty spirit of the old west. I really like John Reid's noble character, vulnerability, high ideals, and that he grows into becoming the hero of the Lone Ranger through trials and tribulation. I also really love Tonto's dry one-liners, and how he lovingly makes fun of 'Kemosabe' like a big brother would. Tonto's comment at the end of the film after 'The Lone Ranger' yells out "High Ho Silver Away" for the very first time is classic!. LOL:-)
