The Artifice Girl (2022)
So much talking
Don't let a good trailer fool you. I signed up for a "sci-fi, mystery, thriller." What I got was a slow, sci-fi-ish, drama. There is nothing mysterious or thrilling about this film. While the concept is interesting, I think the director could've given us more of a story.
This movie is in 3 acts. The acts are three people and Cherry, sitting in room talking and talking and talking and talking. That's it. Some interesting questions are raised, sure. The development and ethics behind AI is definitely topical. However, aside from Tatum Matthews (Cherry) the acting is subpar. Perhaps I would've been more in had I found any of the other people engaging. It reads like a bad play and comes across low budget.

Meh
I wanted to like this so bad. From the first episode, I found the acting absolutely appalling and unfortunately it didn't get better. (The main guy is decent) There were some interesting elements but it never fully held my attention.
The story is kind of a mess. They threw in every cliché (demons, cults, ghosts, paranoia, creepy old house) and it never really came together. I could maybe excuse all of this if it were scary. It wasn't.
Another example of "forced found footage." The whole thing was a chore.
And Just Like That... (2021)
Justice for Steve and Miranda!
What the hell have you done to poor Steve? You've turned him into this bumbling caricature of his former self. Steve was Miranda's touchstone in the series and they're story was perfect. Now, he's this sad, deaf?!, clueless old man. And Miranda? The cheating storyline, her idiot kid... it all just makes no sense and it's fairly obvious the writers have run out of ideas.
I loved this show soooo much. Still do. And despite others opinions, I enjoyed the first movie. (We'll just forget the second) A return to these characters will always pique my interest. However "And just like that" is a perfect example of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should."
Army of the Dead (2021)
Nothing Redeemable
I'm not a huge Snyder fan to begin with this but my hubs got me to check this out with "It'll be zombie action and fun." I like those things, ok...
Even he was ready to turn it off after 10 minutes. Where to start?! Generic script, horrible acting, subpar effects, awful music, too long ... and after the opening scene you will not get any more action until more than an hour in. Seriously, 1:06 to be exact. A snooze....
I guess the only good thing I can say is I'm glad it was on Netflix and we didn't spend money for a movie ticket at a theater. Then I would've had to have finish it just to justify the price. Phew!
Haunted: In the Pines (2021)
So....
You find a "murder room" and don't immediately call the police? This episode didn't go anywhere. 👎🏽
Down to Earth with Zac Efron (2020)
Awful Hosts
I was apprehensive to watch this because of Effron. I'm not as charmed as others. Friends have watched and highly recommended so I thought I'd give it a try.
Very cool concept. Amazing places. Brilliant people. But the hosts... oh man, it's insufferable. We made it halfway through the first episode and decided that was enough. No chemistry between these two ... only blank stares and imbecilic questions.
Dark: Das Paradies (2020)
Beautiful ending!
Dark has captivated me from episode 1. It is a beautifully complex story that could easily go off the rails, without proper direction/acting. This not only properly tells the story. It masterfully engulfs your attention, your heart and your mind. It is heartbreaking and awe inspiring.
I was fairly certain that they wouldn't be able to tie it up or do it justice by the finale. (Which shows ever do?!) I was wrong. It ended just as it should. Perfectly. I cannot wait to watch the whole thing again. So f'n amazing, I want to scream!!!
The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez (2020)
Devastating
This is not easy to watch. I found myself absolutely enraged through most of it. And truly dumbfounded at the utter level of incompetence at every level.
The evil that this poor child endured daily is incomprehensible. And I hope the two responsible suffer for the rest of their lives.
There are good people in this series. (Teacher, guard) Those that tried to make people listen. Those that know something was so, so wrong. I finished it wondering what I would do. At what point do you just physically remove the child, consequences be dammed?
I'm so sorry, Gabriel, that this happened to you. I never knew you but I will never forget you.
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
Watch the first one again instead
My expectations were low, I admit, but this was just lame. Lazy, lazy script full of recycled jokes and a lame, predictable story. Save your money.
