The Departed (2006)

Thank You Martin Scorsese
6 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This is the must see movie of the year.

Martin Scorsese has delivered us with another classic movie and does so with some style. The dircting is brilliant as is the scipt.

This is all bought to life by the three lead roles who were all fantastic especially Jack Nicholson who played the crime boss Costello with great affect and great charisma. But Matt Damon and Leonardo Di Caprio were also amazing. Great chemistry between all three.

There was wonderful support from Martin Sheen and Alec Baldwin. But special praise should go to Mark Warlberg who played the loud mouth cop with huge applause.

With such a great cast it deserved to be a fantastic film and it certainly lived up to expectations.

Amazing movie.

Revolver (2005)

A big headache
22 September 2005
Warning: Spoilers
If someone can please explain to me what happened in this movie I would be most grateful.

I loved Lock Stock and Snatch but this film is full of Whys??

Why was it called Revolver? Why seek protection if your going to die anyway? Why was there not an ending? The list of whys?? does not end.

I love movies, especially ones that make me think but this film was ridiculous. Some of the scenes and the voice overs just left me with a huge headache.

Jason Stratham was OK but slightly annoying. He had a puzzled look on his face the entire time of the movie like he did not have a clue what was going on!! I do not blame him.

I am still having trouble focusing on anything right now as I struggle to think of anything else and trust me I want to.

What were they thinking!!!
4 March 2005
Oh dear..... The amount of people who saw this movie and loved it makes me worry about the state of humanity.

I saw this movie because some of my so called friends were saying how excellent this movie was ( I have seriously questioned my friendships with these people after this disaster!!!) and to say it was rubbish is an understatement.

Keanu Reeves who plays the 'hero' role, is one of the most wooden actor's and in this movie he just plays Ted from Bill and Ted but in leather!! Thats not to say that I do not like Bill and Ted as I enjoyed both of them. But to have Reeves playing him in every film is a bit much.

The story is boring and all the acting is poor. Why did they bother with this movie. If I wanted to watch a truly great sci-fi movie I would watch any of the Star Wars films.

When watching this movie I broke into a cold sweat and started uncontrollably shivering - The film had made me ill. After sitting through it, I had to bleach my DVD player to get rid of the foul stench of rubbish.

21 Grams ...of rubbish
8 February 2005
This film was a complete disappointment and a waste of my time.

I watched this film because I think Sean Penn is a good actor and I enjoyed Mystic River. But all he seemed to do was either sit around smoking or sit in a car stalking Naomi Watts ( I do not blame him for this, she is major talent) and when the film got really 'exciting' he did both.

The film did not go anywhere and was so slow I thought time had stopped. I found myself nearly sobbing in frustration of this depressing tale.

Not even seeing Naomi Watts in all her glory could not save this dire waste of film. This film should come with a hazard warning as it is dangerous to my health.

Drunken crazyness
6 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
men behaving badly is one of the funniest sitcoms ever made which is about 2 flat mates Gary and Tony In the first series Gary played by Martin Clunes lives with his flat mate Dermott played by the annoying Harry Enfield whilst going out with his long suffering girlfriend Dorthey played by Caroline Quientin when their new neighbour Debs played by Leslie Ash moves in Gary and D Dermott are smitten. Tony played by Neil Morriesy joins in series 2 to replace Dermott who has moved abroad. Tony was a lot funnier then Dermott which is the reason he is in from series 2 until the last ever episode. Over all Martin Clunes shines as the silly yet lovable Gary Strang who the manager of a little security firm where he belittles his 2 assistants George and Anthea who are also quite witty. Tony is a simple yet lovable rogue who spends most of the time lusting after Debs and the rest of the time drinking lager with Gary This is a must see for all lager and comedy fans Caroline Quientin is a lot stronger then Leslie Ashs character. A true classic.

Peep Show (2003–2015)
Geniusly unique
4 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I have been a fan of this series since seeing it on E4 in the early hours of the morning. Having now seen it promoted to Channel 4 on Friday evening just proves that gems will shine. Now two series have been completed, lets hope for a third.

Peep show is centred around two flatmates called Mark and Jez who call themselves The El Dude Brothers. Jez is a self centred, unemployed music wannabe. Mark is an uptight, tubby loan manager who seems like failure just follows him around.

Out of the two of them you would think that Jez would be the funny one and he is funny. His shallowness lead him into all sorts of funny situations and his lack of compassion is also amusing.

But Mark is the most funny one by far. He believes that embarrassment is a way of life and does not care how he is perceived as long as he remains close to Sophie, his office crush. Even though he looks like a geek, Mark says things that any normal person would only think and think things that normal people would not even think. His continuing bickering with love rival Jeff is hilarious, as is his uptight manner lead his mouth into trouble. Mark Corrigan is a legend.

My favourite supporting cast member is Alan, Marks boos. His little sayings and his voice have me on the floor in laughter...... Put the plug in the jug!! The funniest episodes are the bowling episode (1.3), the one where Mark has a breakdown (1.5), the one where Mark makes a new friend (2.2) and the one where everyone believes Mark is an alcoholic (2.3) Brilliant Stuff....... The Goonies (1985)
10/10
Hey you guys!!!!!
3 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
The Goonies is fun for all the family. I have seen the film about 50 times and I never get bored with it.

The Goonies are a group of kids who are trying to save their homes from developers. They find a map in one of the kids attics and a hilarious and touching adventure follows, with an idiotic gangster family and dead pirates somehow in the middle of it all.

One of my favourite characters is Mouth, one of The Goonies who as his name may suggest lets his mouth run away with him and lets slip some very funny bloopers.

But the best character is Chuck an accident prone tail spinner who can eat anyone out of house and home. The truffle shuffle scene was one of the greatest scenes in cinema history ( I can do the truffle shuffle but choose not to). The scene with the blender was also hilarious.

Sloth and his wiggling ears are also legendary. Sloth and Chuck make one of the best partnerships EVER.

The adventure is exciting all the way through and it is very easy to watch. Some of the effects are rubbish but that just adds to the charm.

Great stuff

Tombstone (1993)
10/10
Val Kilmer = Legend
2 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Tombstone has to be one of the most truly touching and brilliant films I have ever seen. The action sequences are great and the acting is brilliant, in particular Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday in what is probably the best supporting actor role I have ever seen. How he missed out on an Oscar I do not know.

Kurt Russell was very good as Wyatt Earp and played the role very well. All the acting was superb. The 'Cowboys' who are the baddies of the film had presence and style and gave the heroes some proper competition.

But this was Val Kilmers film. As Doc, he had style, charisma and looked cool even when his character was terminally ill. His sayings were also legendary and Val Kilmer should go down in film legend for this role alone.

Tombstone is the best non - John Wayne western that I have seen.

Willow (1988)

Truly spell binding adventure
2 January 2005
Willow is one of the truly greatest films I have ever seen. Not only is the story fantastic but the acting carries it off brilliantly.

The story is centred around a dwarf called, funnily enough Willow. He finds a human baby in the river and sets off to return the little one to it's people, not knowing how special the kid is or what danger he is in! But the main star of the film is Val Kilmer who wonderfully portrays the crazy yet brilliant Madmartigan, a truly gifted warrior with a past. He makes this film. Val Kilmer is one of my favourite actors who is truly underrated.

one of the best films ever made if not definitely the best movie of the 80s. Ron Howard and George Lucas deserve all the credit in the world for this truly brilliant fantasy epic, as does Val Kilmers. I also loved the fact that the legendary Billy Barty had a cameo.

Legendary movie.

El Dorado (1966)

John Wayne: The man, the myth, the legend
14 April 2002
Even though this is a remake of Rio Bravo, it wipes the floor with it and Rio Bravo was a excellent film.

El Dorado is The Duke at his best, but should we expect anything else from a true acting legend. John as Cole Thornton was absolutely sublime. But the rest of the cast were also excellent, especially James Caan as Mississippi was cool, Robert Mitchum as JP was excellent. The chemistry on screen was amazing.

The foes were also very good especially Nelse McCloud. Bart Jason was a bit weak but the amount of men he had made up for this.

I liked the character Joey McDonald as she was attractive and had chemistry on screen with John and James Caan.

Howard Hawks made an excellent film here, but this was The Dukes film. I give this film 10 out of 10. John Wayne, the legend RIP.

Mallrats (1995)
Absolutely hilarious
12 April 2002
Kevin Smith is a comedy genius.

I thought that Clerks was a very good and witty film. But this takes comedy to another level. The script is absolutely fantastic and all the actors are perfect for their roles.

Brodie Bruce(Jason Lee) has to be the most funniest character ever. Every time he went on a rant about anything from what is in the food court to children on the stairs I was on the floor in fits of laughter. Then of course you get Jay and Silent Bob who are also very funny but in a different way. Michael Rookers character is also hilarious.

TS Quint( Jeremy London) also was good to balance the film out. The women were also of high quality in looks and talent especially Rene (Shannon Doherty).

Overall the film is a masterpiece of comedy genius and I thoroughly recommend it.
