Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
Spiderman: Far From Good
I am highly disappointed. Spiderman was one of my favorites growing up as a child in the early 90's. I would put this one next to the third Sam Raimi spiderman. It was pretty bad, and that hurts me to say because I love zendaya and marisa tomei. Aunt may's casting has been a struggle for me for a long time with this rendition, it's very hard for me to picture her as anything but over 50 years old. Plot and character development were completely non existent in this film. They tried to mash everything in to this film with so little time. The reality is that this film should have been three hours long. Instead it was just hyper focused on spiderman trying to talk to MJ, just to reveal she pretty much already knew who he was and had a crush on him, which we was revealed in the trailers, so we already knew this going in. I didn't much like Garfield's portrayal of Spiderman either, but both of his films were better than this movie.
Pros:
CGI was amazing
Acting was very good
Cons:
Casting of Aunt May and MJ
Character development
too many plots not enough time
horrible setting
Deadly Class (2018)
I Don't Think Some of You Get it!
First, this show is based off an American comic series, it's not just made up out of nowhere. The comic is very closely related to the japanese manga Assassination Classroom. If you are hating on the plot, it's because you know absolutely nothing of the premise. ALL Tv shows and Movies are unrealistic. TV and Movies are an extension of Theater. Theater productions specialize in dramatizing and exaggerating the story visually, that's the point. I digress.
I watched the whole pilot twice. I will agree on the second view I started to see the holes. There really wasn't much build up, so I hope over the next few episodes we see some really strong character development. The production value is top notch, I almost thought I was watching an HBO series.
Where this series might fail a bit, is the writing, and development of characters which seems to be an issue throughout tv and the film industry. The dialog between characters can be a bit stale and cliched.
I could spend all day poking holes in other people's hard work. I am not that guy though. This is something a little different than what we are used to watching on TV, so allow yourself to be entertained. If you are one of those people who are going to pick everything to pieces, don't waste your time. Remember it's still the SyFy channel. They aren't known for their stellar production and actors. So far I like the show, and I am willing to deal with the holes for now. Let's watch the rest of the season and see how it goes.
Wildling (2018)
Predictable, But Really Good!
Honestly I loved it myself, but I can definitely see where others will be able to pick some things apart with this film.
The movie is predictable, you'll figure it out after about ten minutes. Regardless of that fact, it still pulls you in from the very first moment. You will want to see it through to the end, I promise!
Bel Powley really shines in this movie. Her acting is superb, and she portrays the character extremely well. Matter of fact she pretty much carries this film by herself. I've never seen any other movie she has been in, but after this, I can guarantee she is someone you will want to keep an eye on. The supporting cast did a really good job also.
Do you want to be entertained, or do you just want to complain? Leave it all at the door, just watch it and be entertained. It's not meant to be the best film ever, and win hundreds of awards.
I wouldn't so much call it horror, more of a thriller. I really liked the idea of the wildling creatures. I wish they had made the movie just a tad bit longer and fully played out some of the ideas that died towards the end.
Overall the movie was good, nothing award winning, but definitely a movie to keep in the collection. Watch it, enjoy, don't overthink this.
Truth or Dare (2013)
Just Don't!
Completely garbage! How many times are you going to ask about sex? It started out pretty good, then just went downhill after the first ten minutes. The acting was really bad for most of the film, a few scenes were believable. Quality for a film made only 5 years ago, was horrible. Usually when the director stars in their own film, it's going to be a bad movie, and this was the exact outcome. If you are squeemish I highly suggest you stay away from this movie.
The Detour (2016)
An Honest Opinion
For most, this series seems to be a hit or miss. Personally, I think the show is a decent comedy. Is it the funniest show you've ever seen, not by far! There are no "jokes" in this series, it's the situations they find themselves in and how they react that is funny. Of course they don't act realistically, the show isn't based on reality, it's a comedy. So if you are one of those super serious people that are going to pick at every detail, this is not for you, nor are you the target audience.
Pros: The cast fits so well together. None of the characters acting seems out of place. (looking at you Rico Rodriguez - Manny on Modern Family) They truly are a well oiled dysfunctional family.
The journey is fun. Every episode is a different setting, but fits together to make a complete story.
Not your typical cookie cutter dysfunctional family comedy. (e.g The Middle, being a direct rip off of Malcolm in the Middle, Arrested Development, etc, etc.)
Cons: (Spoiler) The humor is raunchy and a few of the conversations the family have aren't child friendly, but it's only a few throughout the whole season. Nothing all that offensive, just might have to explain it to a child, is all!
Conclusion: Bored or kind of down and have some time to kill, throw an episode or two on. Not taking home any awards, but if you need something to watch this is a good choice. Turn your brain off for 30 minutes and just be entertained by the silly scenarios. Not a comedy for sophisticated people with sticks in their ass, and the sense of humor of a SS soldier.
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
Failed Potential
As much as I love zombies, and the The Walking Dead, this show just doesn't cut it. I am not one of those people who just love to hate something for no reason. I really tried to get into this series, and completely wiped out my thoughts and comparisons to The Walking Dead.
The Good:
-The initial plot and scenario was a great idea!
-The settings are unique and production is good.
The Bad:
-The acting is horrible! I haven't built an emotional attachment or connection to a single character other than anger, annoyance, and confusion. I will give the actors credit, I don't believe its there fault, the show just is a huge lost mess.
-Direction! The original plot that drew everyone in was abandoned immediately after the second episode. We went from slowly watching the world fall in one episode, to the world was completely overrun in the next few episodes. Now everything is "every man for them self"! We never got to see what we all came for, What happens at the beginning of a zombie outbreak? I mean this could have launched the series in a completely different and possibly better direction. I wanted to watch the world unfold in at least one season, we got none of that! The 8 minute mini series of the plane ride was the best of the entire series. Seriously!
-The cast! Sorry guys, you aren't bad actors, but its the same exact setup as The Walking Dead, literally! The entire series focuses on a group of "survivors" who are learning about this new world as they travel to "WHERE?" Each episode focuses on these characters, their interaction with the world they travel through, and the consequences of getting involved with other groups, sound familiar. It's literally The Walking Dead -2.0!
CONCLUSION - Leaving any comparisons to The Walking Dead at the door, I really tried to get into this series, but I am just not being sucked in. The show isn't horrible, but I have watched every episode up until now and am not convinced this series will make it past a fourth season. Had they stuck with the original concept of the world slowly falling apart and focusing more on the actual OUTBREAK, this could have been an amazing series to compete with TWD. In the end just wait til the entire series dies and binge watch it on Netflix, as a filler for those in between seasons of the shows you actually love.
Suicide Squad (2016)
Bad Good Guys? or Good Bad Guys?
Lets get straight to it!
Cons: Film struggled with direction the entire time. Some points they're truly "bad guys", other moments they just seem like costume crusaders.
Plot was pretty flimsy. They didn't reach any far surfaces of the brain with this story. No plot twist either.
The entire movie, as long as it is, just moved way to quickly. Character building was not a thing in this film. This movie had so much potential to have sequels, but you can clearly tell they will have 1-2 spin offs.
Characters! 3 out of the entire cast were the main focus. Everybody else was just.....there! (!!!spoiler spoiler!!!) Why even have a character introduced if you were just going to kill them within 5 minutes, was it a role or a cameo?
Jared Leto, he can act, but in my personal opinion, he did a horrible job as joker. Out of all the actors who've played Joker i'd rate him the lowest. I just didn't feel like he was evil or insane. I didn't get any sense of fear, from his portrayal.
Pros: Acting! Viola Davis as always, is a beast. She knows how to command your attention. Will Smith was at the front of almost every scene. That was both good and bad. Margot Robbie, stole every scene she was in, it was hard not to love her. She portrayed Harley Quinn to the T, down to the voice and mannerisms. Oh! and Jai Courtney, this was probably his best role ever, if he gets more work in Hollywood it'll be because of this movie. I always viewed him as the new Colin Farrell, want to ruin your movie? Hire this dodo!
The CGI was too much, but was done very well.
Casting! The entire cast worked really well together, nobody seemed like a bad fit, other than Jared Leto.
Conclusion: Film had so much potential to be incredibly epic, but in the end I feel fell short. Should have spent more time on Character development, and on the plot. The plot was just so over exaggerated and plain. It was a good film, with good production and a great cast that played there parts really well(minus Leto) but the plot just was so dull and boring. 7/10 DVD Collection must have, but not a favorite
True Detective (2014)
Season 1 Brilliant.....Season 2 Death of Series!
Season 1 was phenomenal! If you don't freaking read so much into this show and pick apart every little detail, you will be entertained and pleased. My opinion may be biased because I believe that Matthew M and Woody H are both great actors and were perfectly cast together. They have a chemistry on screen that is very believable and so enthralling. The story line is generic, and somewhat predictable, but the acting is what draws you in.
Season 2! Watched first episode THREE times, I am literally bored out of my mind, I can not digest this. I think where they went VERY WRONG was casting Colin Farrell, good god is he a horrible actor. I feel nothing from any performance of any movie he has been in, and the same rings true for this performance. Unfortunately, the rest of the actors also seem completely lost with their roles. None of them take it to the level of emotion and intrigue as Matthew and Woody, they set the bar way high with their performances.
Sorry to say but this could have been a great series. I have a feeling that the show is about to lose a massive amount of viewers, unless they can revive it with season 3. I am not even going to waste the rest of my time with season 2, its completely garbage compared to Season 1. Hollywood, please learn from your mistakes, Colin Farrell has bombed every show or movie he has been in, he just isn't a convincing actor, please stop giving him roles.
Falling Skies (2011)
Lets Be Realistic
OK, so its not the greatest show ever done in sci fi history! I've read a lot of the reviews and man did people go in on this show. Honestly I like the show. I can understand where if you super analyze the show yea you're going to fidn things about it that don't make sense. The problem with viewers these days is that there so desensitized that nothing impresses them anymore. Look you can watch it or don't. Would you rather watch one of those stupid reality programs that they keep giving random people, who contribute nothing to society and end up rich.
Anyway enough of that rant! The show is about a group of people fighting back against alien invaders. The show follows Tom Mason and his journey as a "second in command" officer of a militia. The good thing about this series is that its a progressive story. Its not something different each episode to make up one big story. It goes in order moment to moment of this groups struggle with the alien invaders. Not the best show ever, but entertaining if you like sci fi. Don't over analyze it. Just watch and enjoy the story!
Snow on tha Bluff (2011)
Wouldn't Watch It Again (Careful Spoilers)
OK, I am going to give a honest review of this movie! This story takes place in a community called "The Bluff", located in Atlanta, Georgia. The main character Curtis Snow, steals a camera from some unsuspecting college kids, looking to score drugs. After the robbery, he hands the camera off to one of his friends, and the journey begins from there. The camera follows Curtis Snow all through the "The Bluff" on his exploits. Curtis Snow continues forth robbing other drug dealers and doing what he can to provide for himself, his crew, and his family. Throughout the movie there are clips of him explaining and showing areas of The Bluff and how he was raised in this environment. There is no surprise twist or crazy climax to this story in the end.
You are not going to get a movie with special effects or a great storyline with superb acting roles! This a semi-realistic portrayal of life, in a poverty stricken community of Atlanta, Georgia. What you CAN get from this film is the sense of "hopelessness", in a ghetto community. Curtis Snow takes what he has been taught as a child and raised to do, and applies it in his everyday life. Most of the scenes are exaggerated.
As for the people who have reviewed this negatively, I am going to presume that those people have never experienced any other culture, than their own. Unfortunately in America this is a reality, for all cultures of any ethnicity. There are ghettos, with blacks, Hispanics, Jew's, Caucasians, and even ghettos with all races living together. The point is, this movie brings light the cold hard facts of life in a poverty stricken ghetto community. Scripted or Not, this is real life for a lot of Americans.
