The Open House (2018)
Missing story
I need to calm down first, I just saw the movie a few minutes ago. But what... what was that?!
I discovered the film on Netflix and since I love crime and thrillers, I thought the film would definitely be for me.
I have to say a good thing about the film is.... wait a minute. When I think about it again, I didn't like almost anything. At most a few scenes are well shot, with good shots and perspectives.
But I couldn't sit still on the couch and was upset about how cliche the characters were. The film unpacks all the clichés of the horror film world: Dark basement = go in alone, a character suspects what's going on = you don't believe him or there's a knock on the door at night = character naively goes out to investigate and leaves the door open. And sometimes all I could do was to ask myself, why? Why do the characters behave like they do in a horror film satire? Why doesn't any of this make sense, in fact the end?
At the beginning the film is entertaining, just normal, short-wave entertainment. But by the middle of the film you're wondering when something will happen again or whether anything will happen at all?
The end is even worse.
Ultimately, more and more tension builds and you start to puzzle. After all it almost gets on your nerves how long it takes and how long you wait for the torture just for nothing to happen. In the end you will just be disappointed and wonder what else you could have used those 90 minutes for.
With the casting of Dylan Minnetten, who has experience with good thrillers (see: "Dead Girls Don't Lie") ,you would actually expect a slightly more sophisticated thriller/horror film.
It's a shame for these 90 minutes of life!
3/10.
Le Saut du Diable (2021)
Not special and boring.
The film actually started out quite normal and not bad.
A few climbing scenes and a family dynamic. But I very quickly became totally unlikable about the girl, of course she's supposed to be a pubescent teenager, but I couldn't muster up any sympathy for her at all and I wasn't actually interested in whether something happened to her. Her only job was to call "Dad". In addition, the girl sometimes behaved so stupidly that I shouted from the couch: "Get out of there, is she stupid? Why is she doing that?"
I had more sympathy for the father; I thought he played his role as a climber authentically. So I really bought into him that he can climb. He carried out the dialogues with his daughter relatively well. Solid performance. The mother also played okay, but also played authentically.
Unfortunately, my bit of praise stops with the "malefactors" of the story. It bothered me that everything someone said to themselves at a moment like that had to be said or that everything always had to be described in detail. For example: "We're leaving here now down and then look for them at the bottom".
It's always better: show don't talk. The main villain also overacted and was just way too serious and evil for this type of film.
There were quite a few logical holes in the film, e.g. B. a person jumps down and comes up on the water much too late. That got a few laughs from time to time. But I don't think it was meant to be laughed at.
Towards the end the film becomes a bit more exciting, but unfortunately that's over after just 15 minutes.
However, the film impresses with its short but beautiful landscape shots.
To be honest, the ending is pretty banal, problems are solved by magic and everything is peace and joy.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
What the f is this
The series is like turning on the TV at 2:45 a.m. And there are shows that are so bad that they don't even get screentime during the day.
The series is sold to me as a legal comedy but there is no sense of humor or legal show. The humor is so blunt that at most small children find it funny. Every lawyer scene is just ridiculous and an insult to any good lawyer series.
Suddenly every second person in the world has superpowers and so that's nothing special anymore. All the characters in this series are or become absolute laughing stock and you can't take anyone seriously. A lot of the characters are just annoying and I wanted to just fast forward through their scenes.
Old characters from other films are taken and made ridiculous, none of these characters (who were once cool and serious) can still be taken seriously afterwards. Old conflicts are resolved immediately with one click; things happen that simply don't make sense. How can Hulk have a son? Where does this child come from?
The ending is bad and an insult to all fans.
This show is bad and the ending just tells me that Marvel knows the show is bad? Instead of making a series and point out everything that was called bad by the viewers ,they should have produced a series in which they take the criticism seriously and improve it. Marvel makes fun of itself and thinks this would be clever and entertaining.
As a viewer you just feel ripped off.
I really don't recommend this series to anyone.
I only give three stars for a few cool moments from Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Wong (Benedict Wong).
This is the absolute lowest point of Marvel and I say that as a huge Marvel fan. Simply trash.
The Batman (2022)
A dark and at the same time great Batman.
This film is convincing across the board!
Robert Pattison's acting is simply magnificent, he manages to convey this angry, depressed and withdrawn Batman perfectly.
The film captures the mood of Gotham perfectly, dark, depressing and melancholic. The film's villains are perfectly evil. Above all, the detective aspect of Batman is shown well. And I don't even need to talk about the soundtrack, when I sat in the cinema and Nirvana started I was completely under the spell of the film. The action scenes are simply superbly filmed and captivating.
When I came out of the cinema I was just amazed. In my opinion it even surpasses the Nolan trilogy. I will run back to the cinema in 2025 to see the sequel and give it a clear 10/10!
