Monster Island (2019)
Godzilla King of the Monsters.
I gave it an extra star because my kids picked it and they actually enjoyed it, but even they knew it was awful.
Its like when a teacher tells you to read a paragraph out of a text book and then asks you to write the same information in your own words.
The text book is Godzilla King of the Monsters. Your own words is this movie. The entire script feels like someone trying to avoid being accused of plagerism but also only so far as to make sure that they couldn't actually be sued for plagiarism.
Finding 'Ohana (2021)
Sweet Little Netflix Movie For Everyone
I really enjoyed this movie, and so did my 6 and 8 year old. It was fun and interesting, and over all just really good family movie. It is similar in style to the Goonies and the Dora movie a few years back, but in a good way. What kid doesn't love watching other kids go on a very dangerous, but awesome treasure hunt? I think people expect too much from films sometimes, but for me, this was just a fun watch the whole family could enjoy.
Christmas Next Door (2017)
Fun enough
Musicians don't hand their prized instruments to random strangers and then walk off without them. I could deal with every other flaw in this movie, even the supposedly accomplished violin playing. I'm not a musician but I know enough of them to know that this wasn't just a flaw, it made the entire movie completely unbelievable and unrelatable. Instruments are like limbs to musicians, especially those that play for a living. No one leaves limbs behind with people they've never met. It's just something I can't get over 😂😂
A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish (2019)
It killed time and wasn't the worst thing I've ever watched...
I'm a glutton for what my husband likes to call 'crappy christmas films' and whilst I did like the movie, it was beyond cringeworthy whenever the characters had to sing, specifically Kat (the main character). Her voice didn't sound like her own because it was so badly autotuned, and the fact that she can't lip-sync (pretty much at all) just made the whole thing so much worse.
The thing is, I hate bashing on a piece of work that someone has clearly put a lot of time and effort into, and the actors were all brilliant within the confines of a cheesy christmas movie...I'd definitely watch them in other stuff just to see what else they can do. It was fun and lighthearted and all round a feel good film...I just wish (so so much) that they (editors/producers/whoever was to blame) hadn't completely crucified the musical numbers. It would have been a pretty decent film if not for that!
Criminal Minds: Truth or Dare (2019)
What the actual...?!
I agree with a lot of people that this was a terrible last episode, especially since next season is their last. It's literally the last major cliffhanger they could have written, but no, instead they decide to warp the amazing, perfectly platonic relationship between Reid and JJ. I'm not being funny, because I love a good romance as much as the next person, maybe more, but I felt so cheated by what they were insinuating. JJ loves Reid, yes, it's so inherently obvious that they love each other...why does it have to be romantic for it to be valid?!!! OMG, I just hate when shows do that!
I will read fanfiction till the cows come home. I love a good ship and I love reading almost any ship, whether it makes sense or not. But this kind of twisted end and terribly forced confession of love does not belong on screen as canon. I'm sorry, but that's just how I feel. I spent the last ten minutes of that episode waiting for the two of them to have a conversation that went along the lines of 'I do love but not in that way, I was just trying to save us - me too I get you, we're all good, you didn't even need to explain - followed by a lot of laughs and few sighs of relief. I was so upset that instead all we got was awkward looks (not even longing ones) and a weird little half-conversation that seemed to undermine JJ's actual marriage (whilst her husband was in the freaking room!) and Reid's beautifully written character ten year development. I am so deeply frustrated and unhappy with this! And to be honest, it looked like the actors weren't all that pleased with it and were just doing the best they could with what they had.
Mad Love (2011)
A good watch which made for a good laugh
I really enjoyed this show; I wasn't compelled to binge watch it but it was good for a light- hearted, not too heavy or awkward comedy. I will agree that the main relationship is too perfect and seems to try too hard to be flawed, but the story isn't really about them. It's more about Larry and Connie, I love their relationship and their chemistry but the way the show is written it's like it's supposed to be a massive shock when we all know from day one exactly what was going to happen. This show would have been better off as a one shot series, add a few more episodes and end it with Larry and Connie together instead of her seeing Larry and Tiffany kiss and it would have made a pretty good and uplifting kind of show. As it happens I think the end to series one was to lead into series two, and with all the will in the world I don't think there would have been enough material to keep it going that long. I gave this a seven star review due to the main cast of four because I did love them and their characters, but I found the end anti-climactic to say the least.
