The Lunch Date (1989)
prejudices
"The Lunch Date" is a comedy about a white woman who takes a break and orders a salad at a station restaurant. A white woman's wallet is stolen at the train station, and the salad she ordered is eaten by a black man. However, the reality was completely different from what she had imagined. At first glance, it seems like a very silly story about her, but it focuses on her prejudices and assumptions about races. In this film, all the people she meets are colored people. Also, the white lady's harsh attitude towards them is very noticeable. However, viewers who watch this movie also realize that they are viewing it with prejudice. The scene at the restaurant is a very important scene in proving this. This movie is set in black and white and has a very simple story, but when you dig deep into the content, it becomes a profound work that you will never get tired of.
Two Strangers Who Meet Five Times (2017)
life is an accumulation of encounters, actions, and choices.
"Two Strangers Who Meet Five Times" is a drama about two men encounter in their lives. Two men have a terrible encounter at an ATM in London. However, this is not the only time they meet; they miraculously meet five times throughout their lives. Alistair and Samir meet many times on their lives, and their actions greatly influence their future lives. The way the movie is presented is very clever and does not show his encounters sequentially. Also, their positions and situations are all very different in each scene they meet. It's also very interesting to see how Alistair's personality changes as the number of times they meet accumulates. It nicely expresses that life is an accumulation of encounters, actions, and choices. The final scene is very heartwarming, proving that their meeting turned out to be a wonderful thing. The fact that they are both smiling and spending time together at the beginning and the end is a very nice development.
Love at First Sight (2010)
A wonderful and sad love story
"Love at First Sight" is a romance about A story about an old woman and an old man who fall in love at a nursing home. One day, Arthur falls in love with Ruth at first sight. Mustering up her courage, Arthur calls out to Ruth. From then on, the two hit it off and spend happy time together. The depictions and images of her after he fell in love with her were very beautiful, and the viewers were able to really feel their love and pleasure. At first glance, it seems like a normal love romance story, but a sudden twist midway through turns it into a heartrending love story. Also, there are foreshadowing pasted throughout Arthur and Ruth's conversations, and I am very moved to see them unravel at the end. I found the way Arthur fall in love with her over and over again to be both endearing and a little sad at the same time.
Spielzeugland (2007)
the Third Reich in Germany
"Toyland" is the story during the Third Reich in Germany. Two boys named Heinrich and David live with their families in Germany. However, one day, Heinrich knows that David's family is leaving for a faraway place, and Heinrich decides to follow him. The overall atmosphere of the movie is dark, and viewers can feel the sadness and tension of that era. Also, the faces of the people taken to the camps were all listless, showing that they were despairing of their future. The film unfolds in chronological order, going back and forth between the past and the present. That's why I was so nervous because I couldn't tell where Heinrich is going until the end. The development of the story is very interesting, and the camerawork and direction makes it easy to convey the characters' impatience and desperation. This story is very sad, and my heart tightened when I saw it.
Lifted (2006)
funny and adorable
'Lifted' is a comedy about two aliens are abducting a man. An alien who is not used to operating UFO is suffering kidnapping a man. When he goes through trial and error in operating UFO, the situation worsens more and more. The way he struggles to operate the UFO is very funny and adorable. Character's facial expression change is very clear and easy to understand how they feel. This story is no dialogue, and I can understand what every character wants to do. Also, the part where they move around inside the UFO and the man doesn't seem to wake up at all is so funny. Their strategy seems to have succeeded, but it ends in an unexpected way. The contrast between the two aliens' personalities and actions was clearly depicted and I am very interested in seeing how the story progressed. It is a short movie that has an impressive punch line and makes me curious about what is going on after the story ends.

the unpredictable developments made me excited
"The Crush" is a love story about the boy crush on his teacher. One day, the boy gives an engagement ring to his teacher, and he confesses to her. However, he comes across her faience in the city. The boy challenges him to a duel in order to prevent her marriage. His use of toy rings and guns shows the determination of a child. His behavior is so cute, and his adult demeanor is so adorable. The depiction of the boy's emotions is very easy to understand as his facial expressions are clearly reflected on screen. The footage during the duel has a tense feel that makes my hands sweat, and the actors' acting, and camera work makes it even more realistic. This story starts with a cute love scene between children and ends with a fierce battle. The script and direction were excellent, and the unpredictable developments made me excited.
Otousan no tabako (2007)
daughter and father
'The Errand' is a family story about a father who is sick from smoking and his daughter who always buys a cigarette for her father. One day, when Sara is going to buy a cigarette, her mother notices and scolds her. She says, 'Cigarettes kill people'. However, Sara continues to buy cigarettes for her father. I could feel that Sara is conflicted or sad from her facial expressions and lines. That made me feel very sad. The beginning of her story is staged as if the daughter is buying cigarettes for herself. It is very interesting to see the meaning of her actions gradually revealed. The final performance seems to hint at her family's future, and it is a very interesting ending.
Fish Out of Water (2005)
the elegance and importance of alone time
'Fish Out of Water' is a comedy about a man who always commutes to work alone by boat. One day, when he is going to work as usual, he meets a woman. He has to row her to the office together. However, the number of people whom he picks up gradually increases, and then he comes to feel unpleasantness in the badness of their manner. His state when he commutes is projected in similar camera work three times. By doing so, we can recognize he gradually loses his energy, and the number of people increases. This storytelling is very easy to understand visually. However, one day he does not visit the boat platform when they are waiting for his arrival. He commutes to work by a surprising method. Sound and visuals when he is on the boat are very beautiful. It makes me feel peaceful and calm. I realize the elegance and importance of alone time.
Porcelain Unicorn (2010)
heartwarming story
"Porcelain Unicorn" is a heartwarming story about a German boy and a Jewish girl. In the past, a German boy meets a girl in the run-down old house. She wears an armband embroidered with the Star of David. They reach out to each other in a way that leads to her giving him a unicorn. However, German soldiers find the boy and then they get separated. The story begins with two of them who have grown up. At first, we don't know what kind of relationship they have. As the story progresses, it is very interesting to watch how the relationship between them becomes clearer. The scene where finally they meet as they have grown-up is very heart-warming. Their words are also very nice. She said that her armband was beautiful, and I thought that was a very nice expression. The ending made me want to see the continuation of their story.

This story has no dialogue, and I can understand what every character wants to do. He tries many different ways and unbelievable ways. His plan becomes more and more extreme as the story progresses. But all avenues he explores do not go well and he is usually damaged. These action scenes are very dynamic and humorous. Finally, he can exit the snow globe in an unexpected way, and everyone thinks he is sure to succeed. However, he unfortunately is captured in the snow globe again. This story has a charming main character and a good ending.
