Feud (2017)
a bit cliché
I like both of the main actresses. I just can't see either of them as the perspective characters they are supposed to be portraying. Bette Davis had feuds with a lot of people. That really isn't anything new or entertaining. I am thinking this is going to be way too camp. Mr Murphy is known for his very cliché often times mechanical camp productions. It is terribly overacted. It is almost like watching a soap opera....geez. I watched just to see what they were going to do with it. I couldn't give it a one star. That seemed cruel however well deserved. This is just one episode. I might try again.
Z Nation (2014)
Sorry guys, I love this show
No it's not perfect. No it's not TWD. Yes it is very well crafted and fun to watch. I was so relieved to see that it was re-upped for this season. This show has a lot of hits. The casting is awesome. That being said, I hated when they offed Mack and Garnett. My favorite character is 10K. I love the guy. There is a good mix of comedy and drama. I mean that is life, right. This show is a different animal from TWD. I'm not going to make a comparison because there is none. They are apples and oranges respectively. I mean who really wants another TWD. I love that show too. The writing could be a bit better. That is with any series, though. Some are diamonds. Some are stones. TWD has had quite a few duds in that respect. The production design is clever. All in all it is a good time.
Project Almanac (2015)
terrible terrible terrible
I really hate POV anything really. Maybe that is why I hated this sooooooooooooo much. The premise is just silly. Again, you really couldn't get too involved with the characters. There wasn't much to get into on that front. The thing that was so frustrating is you go through all of this movie and it turns out to be a boy wants (the hot) girl thing. Jeez Louise what a let down. O and the wardrobe looked like it was purchased at an outlet mall. The lead actor was pretty good seeing that he had crap material with which to work. He's a good looking guy with a great face and good timing. He needs to find a project befitting his talent. The special effects weren't terrible. Those are the only two moderately good things I can say about this waste of time. Enjoy!
The Voices (2014)
Horrible movie---How did it get made?
OK first off the script was dreadful. The characters were vague. You just couldn't get behind any of them, really. The only one that was interesting was the cat...enough said. This wasn't a dark comedy. To be a comedy something has to be funny or clever peppered with light repartee. It wasn't funny or clever or anything really. It was making light of mental illness. It was misogynistic to the core. It was mocking of Christianity, and not even in a unique way. Now Mr. Reynolds isn't the best actor in the world but this was even beneath his very modest talents. The art direction was abysmal. The direction lacked direction...how ironic. The costuming was lackluster. The production design was nonexistent. I think that about covers it. Don't waste your time. There are really good movies you can go for.
Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016)
Even though it is pretty bad....I can't totally dog it
OK I wrote a review the first day this came out. I was kind. I've seen three episodes and they have lost me. My time is too valuable to waste on this. That being said, the main cast is mostly young with every thin resumes. I am thinking they were cast more for look than anything. I mean they have "looks" in spades. There is no denying that.
I'm not saying that is wrong especially in this case because the writing is very weak. I mean there has to be some redeeming quality to the show and looking at stunning people can indeed be that redemption. The direction is pretty awful as well. Even if the actors had only a scintilla of talent, they aren't being given characters worth anything to inhabit and the direction is very lackluster.
The production design is pretty freaking awesome. The art direction could be better but I'm thinking that's due to budget. I mean really....those props. The costume design is good. OK, now the makeup on the other hand is very inconsistent. I'm not saying terrible but there are a lot of misses, kind of in the realm of a high school play. The lighting is way off too, maybe budget again...like trying to hide holes in scenes. I mean it isn't like it's never been done before on bigger productions.
I mean if you want to watch a group of smoking hot actors in smoking hot very form-fitting clothes do tepid acting with mediocre props with a horrendous script and random direction, then this is the show for you.
The Hunters (2013)
I'm not exactly sure what I just watched
OK first off, it wasn't totally awful. It was rather foolish. The production design was, well, nonexistent. The art direction was dreadful. That being said, there are some somewhat good performances from the actors. I mean a mediocre actor can even pull off something worthwhile with a fabulous script. By the same token, not even the most accomplished actor can do much with a terrible script.
The premise was old. The script was really thin. The dialogue was silly. There was no character development. The direction was disjointed. I am pretty sure this was a TV pilot, especially with this choice of cast. Some of the rather cliché scenes support this notion as well, like the closing scene. Please! Every single TV pilot since the 70s has had a similar scene.
It's not a complete waste of time...no. I would recommend DVRing it and FF through most of it.
Strings (2015)
I just couldn't give it a 1...
I won't give it an awful outright. The premise is misdirected. There aren't any surprises. The writing is very sophomoric. The character development is nonexistent on the whole. There are a few glimmers of hope which fade quickly.
That being said there are actually some very good moments in this film. Those are because of the actors. Lucas Till is an underrated actor. The guy does the best he can with the character he was given. Josh Duhamel gives a pretty good performance as well considering the script, yet again. Laura Dern, is a very underrated actress. She has a subtlety that is wasted in this film.
If you watch it because of certain actors, as did I, you probably won't think it is just completely terrible. It's not a complete waste of time, but dang near it.
