Novel But Kinda Pointless
17 April 2024
Novel but kinda pointless is the best way to describe this movie. I'm a huge Doctor Who fan and unless you are a completionist there is no reason to watch this movie and if you aren't a Doctor Who fan I can't imagine getting much out of his movie. For those who don't know Doctor Who the show is a time traveling alien in a spaceship disguised as a police box. This movie however doesn't wait 7 minutes before our characters are flung into an adventure. This movie is a retelling/reimagine of the storyline The Daleks from the show which is how I followed along because I'm familiar with the characters but despite everyone being well acted you don't learn anything about anyone.

I thought it'll be fun seeing Peter Cushing give his interpretation as the Doctor but feels like he's just copying William Hartnell. Barbara as well gets nothing in this and for some reason is also the granddaughter of the Doctor. Susan and Ian are funny enough the most interesting characters. Susan is way younger in this but also felt more useful than her tv counterpart, allowed to be actually smart and brave which is more than I can so for the character Ian which feel like a completely different character all together more comic relief in this.

No I didn't completely hate this movie or anything. This movie looks amazing the sets felt way bigger in this and it fit more like we were on an alien planet because of that. An there were some great camera movements in this compared to the show as well. And it was paced well once you take out the slow dialogue and cliffhangers from the show.

I'm glad I watched this I guess but probably never will again.

Get Past The First Episode and This Show Rocks
1 April 2024
I wish more adaptations were like this only reason this gets a 8 is for the first episode which Is definitely the weakest. If this doesn't encourage people to check out the original comic I don't know what will. Certain characters not showing up sucks and Scott's arc isn't nearly as satisfying but the exes getting way more character development makes up for it. Particularly Matthew Patel and Lucas Lee. I think I watch the opening to ep 4 like 10 times now. #whatever. I understand stand why some people check out after episode 1 but I also appreciate the deceptive marketing because nowadays I feel like I know everything about a project before it comes out so it was nice to be surprised for once. I'm not gonna lie I did watch this in Japanese. Maybe it was a episode 1 problem but hearing the voice from the movie with this style didn't work for me and didn't have that problem once I switched to Japanese but I'm sure I'll rewatch this again eventually in English because there's surprised voices apparently that I didn't catch. Don't know if they will but if a season 2 is on the table I'm all here for it. Finally something decent on Netflix that has some actual heart but into it that's not just a generic action movie.

An Emotional Rollercoaster
9 February 2024
This show resinated so many feelings in me. If you ever loved something or been a fan of something but didn't have anyone to share with or worse felt like you shouldn't share with anyone out of fear or shame that they wouldn't understand this show will also speak heavily with you has will. This show stars Kano who is a closet Toku fan. Around her mid 20s she still feels embarrassed about still watching and liking kids shows. And in 7 episodes we see her not only find friends who share her love of Superheroes but we see her grow more confident in herself and realizing that it doesn't matter the age or gender only you can choose to like what you want to like no matter what others think.

The Mandalorian: Chapter 16: The Rescue (2020)
Season 2, Episode 8

Fan Service can in fact be bad.

Warning: Spoilers
Star Wars has officially become wrestling and this season was the Royal Rumble just old characters coming back to steal the shine away from new characters. First Boba Fett, then Ahsoka, and now Luke. Please just stop with the CGI faces. And people saying they cried during this abc comparing Luke scene to the Vader scene in Rouge One come on people this was mid.

I love Star Wars but this episode had no sauce outside the opening I will admit I like the back and forth between Boba, Sasha Banks(don't remember her character name) and Bo-Katan the dialogue was fun and and can't get enough of wrestling moves in my media but other than that the action was mid as hell please go back and watch the Vader scene again they are not on the same level.

The interaction between Mando and Grogu was nice but considering that Grogu didn't have anything to do this season compared to season 1 I guess that felt like they had to give us something.

The poster is more interesting than the movie
6 November 2023
It felt like they realized they didn't have much of a script so they hired an attractive actress to compensate. So if you don't mind a young girl walking around and occasionally looking at things for 70 minutes this is your movie. Seriously this movie disappointed me the local they chose was great the shots of the island and the lake look amazing but this is an hour and ten minute movie that you will struggle not finding some reason to turn off the movie. It's a shame because this movie could have been scary a girl by herself on an island surrounded by a town of people that she doesn't know and doesn't know her. Except the movie thinks all you need to be scary is having characters stand and stare at our main character and not saying anything.
