Little Women (2019)
LOUISA MAY ALCOTT ........ IT IS NOT
Well, I really don't know where to begin on this absolute rip-off of LITTLE WOMEN. I am 30 minutes into the Prime streaming of this Sony release and do not really know if I will make it to the end. So far there is nothing about this movie that LMA actually wrote. It is obvious the director took the story and dialogue her way and stayed nothing to the original.
There have been many, many versions of Little Women and I have seen many. My favourite being the 1949 version with a fabulous cast. I have also directed the play which sold out every performance and won awards for me.
I have given it a 3 rating and I don't know why I even gave it that. Those viewers who have rated this so high obviously have never seen the 'real' version.
I have never seen any films this director has done and forgive me for saying I will never watch another.
R. I. P LOUISA MAY ALCOTT.
Role Play (2024)
TOTALLY WORTH WATCHING
I say totally worth watching because it is a real movie, with a real, story, very good acting, cinematography, editing, overall everything very good. The Director, excellent, naturally French born and as most French Directors they have created some of the best movies ever over the years. Especially liked this Directors BODYGUARD, a great mini series.
As for some of the other reviewers here who say there is not enough action, maybe they did not watch until the end. Those viewers compare this to John Wick without the violence. Well does every movie have to have violence? I for one watched the first John Wick and would never watch any more because of the violence.
The song at the end is truly appropriate for this movie.
In conclusion all I can say is congratulations to Amazon MGM fo finally making something worthwhile to watch on streaming. It's quite obvious from the reviews that were 1, or even below 7, that they ready don't know what a good movie is.
I have worked in the entertainment industry all my life and can truly say I know what is good from bad.
Saltburn (2023)
WHAT A BORE
I am 45 minutes into this horrific, gross motion picture which so far has nothing going for it. How I can write another 400 words about it is beyond me but somehow I will have to keep going.
How Amazon could finance anything like this is beyond me. There can't be very many good scripts out there to select from. I have worked in the film industry for many years and I can only say this story is a complete bore.
The direction is absolutely shocking and the acting not much better. Now an hour into it but heavens above, over another hour to go.
I am sure the appeal to this film must be to no brainers under 30. Well I have reached the word total so all I can do now is see if this gets published.
Joanna Lumley's Spice Trail Adventure (2023)
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING
YES this documentary is absolutely stunning as are all Joanna Lumley programmes. I have just watched episode one and now starting episode two. The scenery is so beautiful and so is Ms Lumley as always. She has such a magnificent way of presenting a programme with fantastic dialogue, music and camera. She welcomes you and all the people she meets in such a wonderful way.
I have never visited Indonesia even though I live in Australia but after seeing this episode it makes one want to jump on a plane and visit. Alas I am now too old to do this and my passport has expired.
I am so looking forward to the rest of this series and of course whatever Ms Lumley presents next.
Thank you.
The Screaming Skull (1958)
A JOURNEY INTO MADNESS
This is a really good shocker from 1958. One has to remember that movies made back then known generally as schlock were frightening for their time. Those people who gave this such really bad reviews never lived through this time when it was made, I did. I found this one of the most scary movies ever prior to PSYCHO which was made 2 years later.
Thank you Amazon for once again, a new colorised version, which looks brilliant, for bringing this back to be seen. It is even so much scarier than some of the gross, violent movies made today. Watch it for what it is and for the year it was made in. The director did a very good job on this.
