Mighty Max (1993)
A surprisingly great cartoon in the same league as Batman:TAS and its ilk
A surprisingly great cartoon in the same league as Batman:TAS and its ilk, I enjoyed it in my youth and recently had been able to watch them all again, great voice acting from Tim Curry, Richard Moll, Tony Jay, and Maurice LaMarche in various roles. The only qualm I had was Rob Paulsons voice seemed a little too old for the title character, but that wasn't a big deal as the stories were great, and the fact that the whole thing has a great time loop twist ending. Some people say it was a cop-out, but I found it refreshing compared to many series that just leave things hanging. Hopefully one day they put this series out on DVD, unfortunately it came out at a time when DVD's weren't yet prevalent and the cartoon probably only served to sell a particular type of toy, which I never found appealing despite the entertaining cartoon.
National Lampoon's Repli-Kate (2002)
cute concept, decent movie
I enjoyed this movie for what it was, a mindless comedy. It's all about watching every guys dream girl and how such a thing works in real life. Although the main characters clearly failed in their conditioning of their female clone to be the perfect woman, instead making her instead to be a woman who acts like a man. But the point is it made me laugh, and thats all I got it for.
American Wedding (2003)
I laughed, I laughed some more, I almost threw up, and laughed some more.
I gave this movie a 10 out of 10 because for a comedy it made me laugh continuously. Not a minute was wasted. Even if the situation was totally absurd, as many were, the conviction of the actors in their roles was enough to keep it going. Stiffler and Finch's rivalry reached new highs and lows in this one as they compete for the affections of Michelles virgin little sister Cadence. Fred Willards addition in this third movie was welcome, even if his role was subtle.
I can't think of anything bad to say about this movie. The plots were simple but believable.. How complex can a wedding story be anyways. It made sense, it was funny, it was definately funnier than the second american pie movie.. im not going to say it was funnier than the first but I definately laughed longer and harder in this one. Well done. Plus Alyson Hannigan is somehow getting hotter as the movies progress.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)
fun action movie
I came into this hoping to see a fun action movie and thats what I got. the characters were well cast, the movie flowed along at an interesting pace, i didn't know what was going to happen next, and the fight scenes were fun to watch.
its a popcorn movie, and to that end i enjoyed it, the mr hyde character was much better done than the lame cgi hulk, sure some parts could have been done better but this isnt an art film its a movie and it does what its supposed to do.. entertain. I saw kids in the theatre gasp in shock and amazement, people laughed at all the good jokes, the nautillus was impressive as well. some parts of the movie were a bit stilted, but they were few and far between.
Spider-Man (2002)
Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a Spider can, spins a web, any size, catches thieves, just like flies look out! there goes the Spider-Man
I had obtained an advance screening pass for this movie two days before it was to be released. The theatre was packed with kids, comicbook geeks, and so forth. I did not know what to expect, but having watched many of Sam Raimi's other films, and having recently seen the Cider House Rules also starring Tobey Maguire, and just loving the idea of Kirsten Dunst with red hair, I was highly optimistic. And righteously so. The movie was great fun. It extrapolates a lot based on Spider-Man's origin tale, and tells it in a fun humorous way. Very bright and fun for a comicbook movie.. Very rare these days when every comicbook based movie aims for a darker .. batman/dark city look. But thats just not spidey.
There were some parts of the movie that were ... lacking.. The opening credits were way too long (WE WANT SPIDER-MAN ALREADY) .. not that the Danny Elfman score wasnt great. They always are. But you can only watch neat-o graphics of peoples names for so long. But truly, I don't think that anywone else could have done a better job.. It was the perfect cast, the perfect team to do this movie. I have to say Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin was also great. I still don't like the helmet mask thing, but I can't complain. A minor quibble. All in all, a great movie that I certainly plan to get on DVD the moment its out.
