Merry Little Batman (2023)
Got me in the holiday spirit!
Merry Little Batman was a great story of a young boy wanting to become his father. Although the art style isn't my favorite kind, I really enjoyed watching the young bat go through his merry ways fighting older villains while Batman was gone.
This film had a lot of awesome scenes like Damian turning into Kevin McCallister from Home Alone. As a Batman fan, I enjoyed seeing something different than Batman beating up a villain with Robin.
I loved the villains in the movie being old geezers especially The Penguin and a geriatric juiced up Bane.
I didn't care for the fact that Batman was extremely gullible and not in the movie much. Letting Mr. Freeze trick him so easily was poorly executed.
My Favorite Part: The Home Alone scene was amazing but the father and son talks were amazing and heartfelt.
The Family Plan (2023)
Funny with good actors
The Family Plan is a good movie about a wholesome family that turns into a mess of communication. Dan being a salesman and with a twist, an assassin's son was an amazing character and every other character had great arcs.
The son getting to meet Valkrae (awesome cameo) and win the finals was farfetched but awesome. I loved the daughters story from boy obsessed to her own woman by putting a pinch hold on the cheating boyfriend.
The main thing that dropped my score for the movie was the story line after the family found out about Dans backstory. It seemed like they weren't sure what they wanted the characters to do whether it's let Dan die or let Dan go back with his father. I liked the basis of the movie but I mostly loved the humor and action scenes especially the drone call out scene.
My favorite part: the baby was never neglected whatsoever and I loved that because the family was very responsible with him unlike other movies where it's a common trope to lose the baby.
Trolls Band Together (2023)
adorable movie
This movie was adorable and fun to watch because the entire franchise has been great and because my sister was in love with these toys as a kid.
The movie had some adult humor in it that I enjoyed as a 25 year old, reminds me of old Dreamwork's movies like Shrek. The movie in itself was well planned out and the music was fantastic. A few things in the movie I struggled with were the moral dilemma in Veneer and the scene where Viva and the golf ball trolls want to kill Bridgette.
The cast list in the movie amazed me with how extensive it was from movie and tv stars like Zoey Deschanel to Kid Cudi to Anna Kendrick. The moral dilemma in Veneer was not well executed in my opinion, I would have either preferred a more direct positive change before the big concert or a immediate change at the end on the boat, not a progressive change. As for the scene where they want to kill Bridgette, I think the idea was great but the fact they didn't make the scene a bit longer, lessened the impact.
The movies music was phenomenal and I will say that again and again. 3/3 on the Trolls franchise soundtracks.
My favorite part: The final scene where NSYNC shows up and sings with Timberlake like they had use to sing together was iconic.
Candy Cane Lane (2023)
FAst Paced and Cute
Candy Cane Lane, not a bad Christmas movie, I've missed seeing Eddie Murphy in a new movie. This movie had an amazing storyline with well-developed characters. I gave the movie a six though because of how fast paced the movie felt. A lot was going on and should have slowed down a tad bit.
The villain in this movie wasn't my favorite, i liked the twist they gave her but I didn't like how they used the character throughout the movie. All could think of when seeing her walk and talk was Jack Sparrow. Not what I think they were going for.
Being so fast paced they missed out on opportunities to explore the kids school stories. What happened after the movie to Nick's math grades or which school did Joy end up going to?
My Favorite Part: My favorite scene was when Nick was in the music room playing his tuba and doing all this other musical stuff, the milking maid came up and shot him with unnecessary amount of milk. Pretty clever if you ask me.
Best. Christmas. Ever! (2023)
Far fetched but has decent moments
Best. Christmas. Ever! Was a decent movie that had a lot of potential but unfortunately that's all it had. The movie itself had a storyline that I could get behind of and a twist towards the end but the acting and the fact the movie was so rushed ruined the film for me.
The movie was rushed after the first 15 minutes, with poor cut scenes and awful editing. It's like the studio had a se date on its release and couldn't budge it a day so they could finish the movie. I hated that scenes would just cut off the emotions to get to the next informational part. In high school they taught how to story board, they got that part down, but are missing the story itself and how to tell it.
I love Christmas movies but this one stretched my hope for it. The thing that saved this movie was the twist ending and the appearance of the real Santa.
My Favorite Part: The appearance of the real Santa was awesome even though I wish it was longer with more dialogue.
Wish (2023)
So much potential, not enough time
This movie was a fantastically appealing movie that took my eyes by surprised in every drawn and colored scene. I gave it 6 stars for a reason though, the music wasn't what I expected it to be and the story itself was rushed.
Starting with the music, with exception of a few songs, the music was sloppily written lyrically. All but Wish and two others, I wasn't drawn into the music and want to download it when I left the theater. With movies like Frozen or Encanto, Disney has set an extremely high bar on their musical numbers. Debose's voice carried the entire movie, while Pine's voice made me cringe in his first song.
I'm not one to complain about movie run time, but with 1 hour and 35 minutes, 10 minutes would have done the movie some good. The story itself was well planned out but it seems like they cut some scenes that would have been nice to grow the story a little more. Often times, rushing a movie takes its heart, this one did in many critics eyes and I can sadly agree. You see it in the beginning and the director loses it toward the middle.
The best parts of the movie was the animation and the voice of Debose.
My favorite part: there are hints in the movie towards beloved characters from the 100 years of Disney. Seeing them recreate them in the world of Wish was pretty cool. As were the immortalization of famous scenes in stars during the credits.
The Naughty Nine (2023)
Obvious Disney Movie But Great
This movie was very good, obvious Disney Channel movie. The premise was clever and I enjoyed the fact of the Naughty List being real. The main character, Andy, is a funny and smart kid but recruiting so many people made me not enjoy the characters as much. Every character had an important role but I would have preferred to like all nine characters a little bit more.
The Christmas magic in the movie was fun to see in a different manner but kind of changing some Christmas ideas. For instance, the elves being normal instead of short was a huge change. The elves celebrating in multiple cultures was a nice scene though.
My favorite part: Coming up on Santa's Village, the scenery was beautiful with vibrant colors. Every bit of Santa's Village was fun to see from the gate to the vault, what every kid who once believed in Santa wanted it to look like.
