Boo! (1932)
What a great little short
15 May 2004
I just got the Frankenstein Legacy Set(as part of the Monster Legacy Gift Set) and I enjoyed watching this little short. I said to myself that Mystery Science Theater must have taken notes from this short. What also liked was when the monster is made we get a clip from the lost Frankenstein film made in 1910 by Thomas Edison. Currently that version is only available to collector's or high class colleges. Anyway great fun to watch. Another interesting feature is the way they edit the scenes together. Also the way they reverse some scenes(like when the monster enters Elizabeths room and he grunts when she screams...constantly) This was obviously Universal's first comedic try at teaming Dracula and Frankenstein up(the next would be 1948's Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein).

Daredevil Meets The Hulk....
8 January 2004
Okay this is Universals second attempt at starting a new series. In the Incredible Hulk Returns(1988), they tried to start a Thor series. Now, they were attempting to make a Daredevil series. Well anyway, it's been a while since the last film. Dr. David Banner is no longer trying to find a cure, but goes from place to place working at different areas. His next stop is New York City (he really thinks he won't get angry there), where a crime lord named Wilson Fisk AKA the Kingpin resides. After attempting to protect a young woman from a couple of Fisk's goons David is locked up. With no record of being alive, lawyer Matt Murdock takes his case, hoping that it will lead to proof that Fisk is the Kingpin. At first David hesitates, in fear that he will Hulk-up again, but when he discovers that Matt Murdock isn't only blind but a vigilante crime fighter named the Daredevil he eventually gives in. The movie is okay for TV standards, if this was released theatrically I would say it would plummit in the box office. The ending of the film is a sure bet that the producer's were looking to continue the Daredevil story. I wish they would've. Many don't like the outfit the Daredevil wears, but in the comic book that is what he wore. Stan Lee has his first in many Marvel movies cameos as a juror in David's dream. Bill Bixby has certainly mapped out the character of David Banner and how closed up a man like him would be by now (beginning of the film, he is completely shut out from everyone). Lou Ferrigno returns in his role as the misunderstood creature. The biggest factor missing is Jack Colvin's character Jack Mcgee, who we last saw saying that he will continue to look for the Hulk. But, we never see or hear from him again. Anchor Bay Entertainment has released this film as a 2pak DVD with The Incredible Hulk Returns(1988), featuring two documentary's; one of the documentary's explains the history of the Hulk and the other documentary tells Lou Ferrigno's bodybuilding biography. Where's the Bill Bixby documentary's?

Supergirl (1984)
Good Try...But No Cigar
29 September 2003
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this film very much. But the story is kind of plain and many of the actors or actresses seem lost. What was the purpose of having Marc McClure in the film. It's not like in Superman 4 him and Lucy are together. Peter O'Toole being in the film is obviously their own way of advertising the film, as well as to make it appear better than it really is. Helen Slater is good in her starring role, but at times seems dazed and confused.

I haven't seen the Director's Cut or the International Cut, but I heard it makes the film make more sense. As a DC Comics fan I would say stay away, as it doesn't really stick to the comics story. If your a Superman fan avoid, Superman isn't even in the film(he was scripted to make an appearance, but Christopher Reeves wasn't available)he is only mentioned on a radio broadcast. If you like Helen Slater or just want to kick back and enjoy a couple of hours than come see this. If you already haven't than you must've just been born.... 3 OUT OF 5 STARS.

The First Superhero From New Jersey Super.. OOPS Sorry That's Someone Else
25 September 2003
A friend of mine lent me six Troma movies the four Toxic Avenger movies, the Toxic Crusaders Cartoon movie and Terror Firmer and I have to say this is one of the better films. Taking place in the fictional New Jersey town Tromaville, a young man name Melvin Junko (Hargl) is humiliated out a second story window of a health spa. Outside the health spa is a group of canisters carrying around toxic waste chemicals; nice place to place in front of a health spa. Melvin than transforms into The Toxic Avenger, a hideously deformed creature of superhuman size and strength. Do to this he moves out of his mothers home and into a waste dump across from the New York Skyline. He eradicates evil in the most horrible ways and still finds time to get a beautiful girlfriend to screw around with (she's is blind). When I first got these films I remembered enjoying the cartoon on Saturday morning and hearing about a live action movie. I must say after watching this film and the other 3 sequels I am now an official Troma fan. I recommend this to anyone who loves to have a good time. This is the first superhero from New Jersey and he certainly represents. Followed by Toxic Avenger 2, Last Temptation of Toxie and Citizen Toxie. After viewing the four Toxic Avenger movies its a good idea to view Terror Firmer, as its a good companion film to the series. 6/10

A Match over a decade in the making....
3 September 2003
When I went into the theaters o see this film I was excited. I mean this would be my first time seeing Freddy on the big screen, and to see him pinned against Jason from the Friday the 13th series was a definate plus. I have kept close eye on the production of this film since 1993 when Jason Goes to Hell gave us the hope of this film being made. Anyway here's my opinion of the film. GREAT!!! I mean the story is good and how they are able to put them in the same world together is fun to watch. My only complaint is how did Jason get from New Jersey to Ohio? Oh well... I guess us fans don't watch these films so they can make sense.

As for the battle, I think it was good. I mean it lasted long enough, and had enough bloodshed to satisfy even the most sceptical Freddy and Jason fans. My rating 3 out of 5 stars...

Troma Continues to Give Us the Sickest and Most Hilarious Films in History...
3 September 2003
This has got to be one of the sickest and most hilarious films in the independent field to date. After watching the four Toxic Avenger movies, I was told to watch this as its a good companion film. They were right! The story is basic, during the filming of a new Toxic Avenger movie the cast and crew start to get killed off by a mysterious woman in the most grotesque ways. Of course this is being brought to the public by those sickos at Troma Entertainment and who better to play the role of the blind film director Larry Benjamin than director and Troma owner Lloyd Kaufman. I highly recommend this film to those with strong stomachs and those who just want to have a good time. In R-rated and UN-rated versions.

My rating 3 OUT OF 5 STARS

Clerks (1994)
A Day in the Life of Two Store Clerks...
3 September 2003
After seeing Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, I knew I had to see the previous films and I've enjoyed them all. First up is Clerks, the first film in a series that would spawn four sequels and a cartoon series. We find New Jersey native Dante Hicks (Brian O'Hallorann)going into work on his day off and having to deal with the most obscure and weirdest customers I've ever seen. To top it off he must deal with his friend and fellow Clerk Randall (Jeff Anderson) who works in the video store next door and constantly locks up to come over and talk to him. During the course of the day everything that can happen happens and everything that can go wrong goes wrong. Filmed in Black and White this would spark the first time director Kevin Smith would enter Hollywoods lives. Kevin Smith also appears here for the first time as Silent Bob friend of fellow loafer Jay(Jason Mewes) 4 OUT 5

The Hulk Stays Strong...
3 September 2003
Second TV movie after the cancellation of the Incredible Hulk series holds well. In this film Bruce Banner heads to New York still trying to find a cure for his transformation spells into the Hulk. In the process he is arrested for the attempted rape of a young woman in a subway (in fact he actually helped her). He is given Matt Murdock as his lawyer and with the help of his alter-ego Daredevil he sets out to prove his innocence and rescue the woman who has been kidnapped. As part of a plan to release a Daredevil TV show Universal thought it would be good to see if audiences will enjoy Daredevil. Oh well the show never went further than this, but it still is a pretty good original appearance for Daredevil. Followed by The Death of the Incredible Hulk. 3 1/2 OUT OF 5 STARS.

Hulk (2003)
I Miss Lou Ferrigno.....
12 July 2003
When it comes to comic book characters coming to the big screen, I am a fanatic. I grew up watching re-runs of the old 70's Hulk series (starring Bill Bixby, Lou Ferrigno and Jack Colvin) and I was basically hooked to super heroes. When I heard this film was coming out with a CGI Hulk I said to myself "Oh My God." As a fan I just said maybe it will be better than expected, I was wrong. Even though the action sequences were good, it just seemed to fake for the Hulk to leap miles to miles. I mean all I see is Superman of Marvel.

Well here's the story, Dr. David Bruce Banner is experimenting on himself to help release his anger side when he finds out his wife's pregnant. Knowing that he will pass down the mutant gene he anticipated his child's arrival. When he is born David continues his experiments....on his son. After a huge miltary confrontation, we fast forward years later. Dr. Bruce Banner is now the same kind of scientist who thinks his parents died years before. After an accident in his lab with radiation, he is put in the hospital. However, he appears to be fine and in better health than ever, when a mysterious man claiming to be his father walks in and explains to him why he survived the radiation and why he seems right at home in a science lab. Shortly after he has his first transformation. Like I said the film isn't the worst, but I miss Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno. Jennifer Connely (Labyrinth)co-stars as Bruces' love interest. Nick Nolte (48HRS) plays the aging David Banner and Sam Elliot (Mask) appears as Jennifer Connelys military father. I give this film ** 1/2 out of *****

WWE Raw (1993– )
R.I.P. WCW Monday Night Nitro....
28 November 2002
WWE Raw Is War(Formely WWF Raw) is the best professional wrestling show on the market today. Both WCW and ECW went completely bankrupt for programs like this and you can see why. WWE features some of the best Superstars in the world. The only flaw is that Eric Bischoff is running the show now. I guess Vince didn't learn that it was Eric's "creative" touch that eventually caused the downside for WCW. If you love wrestling and want to have a good time on Monday nights than watch this.

Mondays from 9PM to 10PM.. From 10PM to 11:05PM its WAR ZONE hour Both on TNN Check your local listings.

The Nightmare Has Just Begun....
5 November 2002
Wes Craven wrote, directed and produced this masterpiece about a group of teens plagued by a dark figure in their dreams who wants to kill them. This is the film that would help make Robert England a horror legend and put Freddy Krueger along such baddies as Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers. Heather Langenkamp and veteran actor John Saxon co-star as Nancy and LT. Donald Thompson. The atmosphere of this film is extremely dark, Wes Craven made sure to hide Freddy's face extremely well and give the audience a sense of fear. The theme is as chilling as any horror fan will ever here. The jump rope rhyme is an instant classic in the world of horror. Other actors and actresses in this classic are.... Amanda Wyss, Nick Korri and Johnny Depp(in his first movie).

Street Car Chivalry (I) (1903)
Good Piece of Movie History....
9 October 2002
I take a Film History in which at times we watch classic films or just old movies. As much as a movie buff I am, I was excited to here I would this film. The movie is no more than 5 minutes long and is one of the first films to show a woman being treated differently because she isn't as pretty as another woman on the streetcar. Back in the days films like this were considered taboo or just plain wrong, now a days films like that are not what people call a film. I like it! The only way to really see this is through a film course or on the history channel. If you are a huge movie buff and find some way to see this I say see it.

Nosferatu (1922)
The King of Vampire has returned....
26 September 2002
Nosferatu is one of the best versions told of Bram Stoker's classic 1897 novel. Count Orlock (Count Dracula in the book) travels to Breman, Germany to wreak havoc upon the people, Hutter (Walker in the book) escape from the vampires evil place to save his fiancee(Mina in the book). I purchased the DVD of this classic and although I enjoyed the film for its originality and classic look, I was disappointed at the replaced organ music (the DVD features music from Type O' Negative instead of the classic organ) other than that I think this is a film for any horror fan or film historian. The look for the vampire master in Stephan King's Salem's Lot was inspired by Count Orlock's look.

Scooby-Doo (2002)
Scooby-Doo....I Found You.
27 August 2002
Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** I grew up watching Scooby-Doo and all the spinoffs, and have never gotten tired of the antics of Shaggy, Scooby-Doo, Daphne, Velma and Fred as they always foil the plans of a greedy thief. In this they are in their first live action film. This time the gang is taken to an island where Scooby-Doo is being chased by a cult that needs his pure soul to bring an end to the world. What we get is the typical Shaggy and Scooby running for their life and still ending up saving the day. Daphne(Sarah Michelle Gellar),Shaggy(Matthew Lillard), Fred(Feddie Prinze JR.),Velma(Linda Cardellini)and of course Scooby-Doo(voiced by Neil Fanning). I give this film 4 out of 5 because nothing will ever compare to the original cartoon and its characters. SPOILER!!!! As the gang is supposedly defeated as the tribe has taken Scooby's life force we find out that the villian being this particular mask is in fact Scrappy-Doo(voiced Scott Innes) who is tired of being a goody good and not being appreciated for all he had done in the past. Even though Scooby's Spirit has returned to its body Scrappy still enough energy to mutate into a bigger more ferocious creature. As the battle continues the gang teams up against Scrappy at first trying to get through to him, but as it seems hopeless they figure out a way to beat him. As Scrappy is being carted off to the pound he lets out a load of obcenities which is of course being said into the distance, when the news reporters head off to talk to Fred about what has happened he informs them that it was in fact Velma who is the one who came up with the idea that defeated Scrappy and his minions.

Welcome Back Rick Rosenthal.....
27 August 2002
Warning: Spoilers
One of the best sequels in the Halloween franchise has director of Halloween 2 taking the helm once again.

This time Michael returns to kill off a group of teenagers who have decided to spend the weekend a his home for an internet broadcast in which the group search the house in hopes of discovering what might have set Michael off enough to kill his sister Judith in 1963.

SPOILERS! This film is excellent, I was there for the very first showing in which I moved to the front row so I wouldn't miss One second of the movie. I certainly wasn't disappointed, since then I have seen an alternate version which was released for the premiere in which it has a different beginning, alternate title, and alternate ending. The alternate beginning has a home video type video picture. We see the Myers in a typical family barbeque with Judith hoola-hooping, Lori a newborn and Michael by the back door with his body turned away from the camera. As he is ignored to get away he turns around staring at the camera with a homicidal look in his eyes, we go closer into his eyes to a black tunnel and Lori's introduction. Then we are given the movies original title HALLOWEEN: HOMECOMING. The alternate ending has Busta Rhymes smashing the camera, then panning over to a women who is investigating a hole in which Michael has been sleeping and hiding for the past 20 years, as she looks closer in the hole Michael appears and grabs her and takes her down. I'd say go see this film, if anyone wants to watch the premiere version go and download Kazaa and download HALLOWEEN: HOMECOMING. i GIVE THIS FILM 5 OUT OF 5 STARS.

IN THE THOUSANDS OF ATTENDACE AND THE MILLIONS WATCHING...
15 August 2002
Ready to Rumble is a funny and at the same time great film, that pokes fun of the wrestling world. It also shows the fans what type of drama takes place behind the curtains.

The story is simple two sanitation workers Gordie(David Arquette)and Sean (Scott Caan)are die hard WCW wrestling fans. Who enjoy there hero Jimmy King(Oliver Platt), but when they attend Monday Nitro and there hero is double crossed by the evil promoter Sinclair and DDP(Diamond Dallas Page)they decide to help there fallen hero and help him regain his confidence.

This film is excellent, but only if you enjoy wrestling and now with WCW gone forever and owned by WWE owner Vince Mcmahon it is great to see WCW in its top form.Other WCW wrestlers appear as there wrestling egos such as Bill Goldberg, Perry Saturn, Sid Vicious and of course the Nitro Girls.

The DVD is also great with not many extras, but what there is gives you your money's worth. Watch Bif Naked's: We're Not Gonna Take It and you'll see what I mean.

Brett Ratner Keep Up the Good Work...
4 August 2002
This movie is one of Cages' best films to date, he plays a highrise business man who gets to glance at what life would've been like if he had stayed with his fiancee,(played by Tea Leoni) and not gotten on a plane that would seperate them. I saw this film for the first time in the theaters and thought it was good, it's heartfelt, funny, and a good way help people remember what's important in life money or love. I'm not gonna give away the ending, but it didn't make much sense to me. YOU DECIDE for yourselves. I give this film 3 out of 5 stars.

Bring on the TV Show ....Please
1 August 2002
I watched this film because I'm a huge vampire fan going all the way back to F. W. Murnaus' Nosferatu: A Symphony In Horror (1922).

It takes place in a small town in Southern California, where an airhead teen named Buffy Somers, (didn't get her last name until the TV show)finds out that she is destined to fight the forces of evil mainly vampires, until she dies. Her mentor or Watcher as he call himself is Merrick (wasted by Donald Sutherland) an English mentor who has lived several life times teaching one slayer after another.

Luke Perry better known for his role as Dylan McCay in the Aaron Spelling Drama Beverly Hills 90210, plays a dimwit mechanic named Pyke who eventually takes it upon himself to help Buffy against the vampires.

The movies goes from stupid to stupider until the end when Buffy must face the ultimate vampire Lothos. Playing his idiot minion is comedian Paul Reubens better known as Pee-Wee Herman. The comedy in the film is the only thing that will keep you awake enough to watch this whole thing. I'm glad writer Joss Whedon made up for his mistakes by making the TV show starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. Look for cameos by future SCREAM star David Arquette as a vampire, Hilary Swank as an airhead cheerleader. 3 out of 5 stars.

Inside 'Halloween 5' (2000 Video)
A New Look At Halloween 5
11 July 2002
I recently purchased the Halloween 5: Limited Edition Tin DVD and watched this documentary, it was fun to see Danielle Harris, Don Shanks, and Ellie Cornell the way they look now. This documentary also answers the question of "What was the purpose for The Man In Black?"

We also get to see the original opening scene in which someone removes Michaels mask and looks at it funny. We get to see a much better look at Don Shanks, and Danielle Harris tells all of one cut scene that was cut, because it was too graphic.

The collector's booklet was a nice edition, and the miniature sized poster of the original H5 poster helped make the DVD worth buying.

So if you want to see this documentary, the only solution is to buy the DVD. As for the documentary I give it 3 out of 5 stars. I mean it is a documentary and not a movie.

Big Daddy (1999)
ADAM SADLER IS STILL GREAT...
29 June 2002
I love Adam Sadler, he is so funny at times and then he is so professional. This is one of those films where he is serious and funny at the same time. I love the way he plays such an irresponsible 30 year old, who wants to live a college life all his life.

Than suddenly he must become a father after he adopts a kid(his roommates son, he didn't know about) thinking that would help his relationship with his girlfriend (Kristy Swanson).

I'm sure everyone knows about the movie. I want to comment on the DVD, I have both the DVD and VHS versions and I think this DVD is great, of course they could've added a cut-scene section. What I like most about the DVD are the music videos one is " WHEN I GROW UP" by Garbage and a remake of Guns' N' Roses' " SWEET CHILD O' MINE" by Sherryl Crow. So in closing get this DVD and if the DVD makers decide to make a better version I'll bye it. 4 OUT OF 5

Spider-Man (2002)
Simply One of Raimis' Best...
27 June 2002
I saw this flick the opening weekend, and was simply amazed. Not only because the theaters were packed, but because of how real the movie seemed. Now of course no one can have powers like Peter Parker, but everything he and MJ go through feels real. The movie itself was excellent and I'm glad that Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and director Sam Raimi are returning for a second film. The only thing that bothered me, as well as a lot of my friends is that Peter doesn't make his webbing, like in the comic and cartoons. Also if I loved someone like MJ like he loves her I wouldn't pass up the chance, I do understand however his reasons. William Defoe was perfect as Norman Osbourne/Green Goblin. I'm also grateful that Sam Raimi left the WTC buildings in the movie, because that would only tell the people responsible that we were mortally wounded in that tragedy. The soundtrack song "Hero" is also a nice touch. I'm definately seeing Spiderman 2 which is supposed to feature Lizard Man and Dr. Octupus. 4 OUT OF 5 STARS

Scream (1996)
Excellent movie and great bonus DVD.
27 June 2002
Since there is no section for the Scream: Bonus DVD, I thought I'd use this section. First off Scream was a terrific film that got people interested in the horror genre again and introduced a new kind of horror to a new generation. Scream 2 was one of those rare sequels that either is as good as the original or better. Scream 3 was a great way to end a trilogy, especially during a time when trilogies in the horror/slasher genre or almost non-existence. When the DVD box set came out, I had to get it so I sold my VHS copies so I can build up my money and got it the best chance I could get. When I viewed the 4th discs I was amazed it had trailers from the made up studio Sunrise such as: Stab 2, The Blair Bitch Projectz and more. It also features an opportunity to recreate a scene from Scream 3 in which you can add deleted scenes to the beginning of the movie. This DVD also features audition tapes for Neve Campbell and others. So if you are a true Scream fanatic get this DVD box set while you still can. On another note PLEASE! release the director's cut version of Scream (which is only available on laserdisc at this point). Also release a DVD version that has a cut-scene section, that's the best part about having DVD's. Dimension Films could also release Scream , Scream 2, Scream 3 music video DVD's. Bye for now.

The Ultimate Horror Fans Dream...
4 May 2002
Well this is my second review on this title, my first complimented the VHS version of Boogeymen. This review is for the DVD version. This is twice as good as the VHS version with great extras such as Commentary by Robert England better known to horror fans as Freddy Krueger. Even more Flix Facts and theatrical trailers. This DVD even includes a fun screen shot trivia game, where you identify the scene with its movie. It also has theatrical trailers for upcoming(they-re already released now) movies. If you want to see my original review my old screen name was ERIC(MOVIEFAN) in the user customer review section.

Wayans Brothers Have Done It Again..
4 May 2002
When I saw the trailer for this one I couldn't wait to see this, so I saw it as soon as possible and even though it's not as good as the original the hilarious parts are enough to give an old man a heart attack. I purchased this on DVD and the extras are amazing such as 3 pages of alternate and deleted scenes. Behind the Scenes Featurette, sneak peeks of other Dimension Films coming to DVD, and much more. The most hilarious scene in the film is its poke funning of the Exorcist. TRIVIA NOTE(S) MARLON BRANDO WAS ORIGINALLY SIGNED ON AND EVEN PAID TO APPEAR AS THE PRIEST IN THE BEGINNING, BUT HAD TO QUIT DO TO SICKNESS (HE GOT TO KEEP THE MONEY). ALSO THE TUNG USED IN THE BEGINNING WITH THE POSSESSED CHILD IS THE ORIGINAL TUNG USED IN THE EXORCIST. TORI SPELLING WHO PLAYS ONE OF THE CHARACTERS ALSO PLAYED CINDY PRESCOTT IN THE "STAB" MOVIE IN SCREAM 2, SCARY MOVIE 1 POKED FUN OF THE SCREAM TRILOGY. I highly recommend getting this on DVD if you don't have a DVD player get one it's worth every penny.

Wayans Brothers Know How to Make Laughs...
4 May 2002
I am a huge fan of both the horror and comedy genres and when the two genres are combined like this it's the best. Marlon, Shawn, and Keenan Ivory Wayans bring us a spoof of 90's genre more specifically the Scream and I know What You Did Last Summer series. As the laughs start piling up so do the bodies. I remember sitting in the movie theaters with my friend and actually falling out of my seat at some of the more hilarious parts. Just like the trailer says " They didn't make the rules, they're just too stupid to follow them" that is certainly the truth. The cast stars Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell, Shannon Elisabeth as Buffy Gilmore, Carmen Electra as Drew Decker, Marlon Wayans as Shorty Meeks, Shawn Wayans as Ray-Ray Wilkens the sexually confused jock, Jon Abrahams as Bobby Prinze, Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks. Keenan Ivory Wayans has a cameo that pokes fun of Amistad and Titanic. As for the DVD its okay, but most of the features you get on the VHS version. TRIVIA: SCARY MOVIE WAS THE ORIGINAL TITLE FOR SCREAM WHEN WRITER KEVIN WILLIAMSON FIRST BROUGHT IT TO DIRECTOR WES CRAVEN AND DIMENSION FILMS/MIRAMAX. LOOK FOR MY SCARY MOVIE 2 REVIEW.
