Queen of Tears (2024– )

Could've and should've been much better!
1 May 2024
I love Kim Soo-Hyun he is the reason I fell in love with KDramas. I also like Kim Jin-Won she is a very talented actor(My liberation notes)she was outstanding in that. So I was eagerly waiting on this drama ever since it was announced. The premise of the show was intriguing enough. But it's a Kdrama after all so it was always going to be cliche. So this was nothing original or outstanding in terms of the plot. It was very much predictable to be honest as the show went further.

With a strong cast from the leads to the supporting cast the show did deliver with strong performances. You really feel hatred towards the villians, what lets this show down is the lack of screen time of the leads together. The plot had made it sound as if we would really experience a love so deep between the leads. I wanted the moments they share together to be powerful and memorable.

So much time was wasted on unnecessary soapy dramatic scenes. The plot focused too much on their enemies. Maybe I was expecting a love story so I got disappointed. Never the less the biggest issue like with many Kdramas is too many episodes. Each episode had a run time of around 120min with finale 145min. So why did it need 16 episodes? I honestly got bored after episode 12. To the point of skipping through episodes 14 &15. And i didn't miss much, filler episodes in Kdramas are so unnecessary. It simply becomes a bore as everything is just repeating and pointless characters getting screen time.

But I will give this drama an A plus for a good conclusion. Sadly it should've have ended around episode 12. So this could've been a classic had they spend more time on the main characters love story. It should've been as good as Crash Landing on you and It's okay not to be okay. But it just falls short from those outstanding dramas.

Brilliant Slow Burner
20 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This is a wonder short series that is well made and leaves you satisfied. Slow burners can be tideous and confusing. But credit should go to the director and writer who do an exceptional job on delivering a solid series. The story revolves around a inheritance claim of a burial background.

The character development is done superbly. You meat the leads and you get to learn of their backstory as the episodes progress on quickly. This is done and executed brilliantly by the director especially considering it's only a 6part series. Flash back scenes of characters can be discombobulated by over dramatisation. But here the director gets straight to the point and you fully grasp the background stories of the characters immediately.

They're twists and turns which leave you wanting more. The kind when you watch a series and every episodes leaves you wanting to watch the next one! The performances of the leads are also a standout,it leaves you fully engrossed. The cinematic back drop and score of the series makes it feel so gritty and real. You feel like this is a tale of something that happened where you live and it's being told.

Those who like darker themes mind find this a little underwhelming. But I feel it has just enough punch to quench the thirst of those of us who like mystery thrillers. The plot is intriguing and very well presented. Slow burner at a decent pace which leaves you more than satisfied if anything else.

Instant Classic
17 January 2024
Found this gem by chance, turned out to be the most beautiful K-drama series I have ever watched. I didn't know it was a remake of a Japanese Film(which also won a lot of praise).

The writer of this series really did a wonderful job and the two leads carry this masterpiece effortlessly. They share such wonderful chemistry and you become engrossed in their perfomance.

It's a story about love and acceptance, what exactly is it to love someone for who they're and not what you wish them to be. How will you overcome others prejudice when it comes to your choice of partner. But most importantly how will you handle the full scale of being different from the person you love. Is love enough? Can you overcome the small things we take for granted, like hearing and speaking. How will you make it work in the longterm when communication is a main factor in a relationship. You can learn a language/sign but when we're overwelmed and overly emotional how can we best understand each other when we don't really speak the same language?

Love is love and doesn't need to be spoken to be understood. Is it enough though? Well watch this and find out!

Once Upon a Boyhood (2023– )

Brilliant :)

Why the low rating on this gem? Honestly I'm surprised considering the reviews on here are all 10s. Surely we can't be delusional right? Well don't believe our scores simply just go watch this and you will not regret it.

Watch it for the cinematography which is just breathtaking to say the least. This is your typical underdog story so you know what to expect. The kid who is bullied and finally decides to stand up for himself and others like him. It's also about finding yourself when you think and feel all hope is gone and lost. The story is straight forward nothing overly complicated. You will laugh ad smile a lot whilst watching this but you will definitely find yourself shedding a tear or two.

Yim Si-wan is the lead and oh boy! He is simply brilliant in this. I have watched him in a few K-dramas now and each time I see him he leaves me wanting more. He is so diverse in a every role he plays but on Boyhood he just takes it to a whole new level.

I feel 10 episodes does it a lot of justice as most Korean shows overplay their hand and lose substance when they have filler episodes. But Boyhood moves at a fast controlled pace and you enjoy each episode that it almost ends with you still wanting more which is always a good sign.

High school drama
20 December 2023
As someone who doesn't watch trailers I like the first time viewing experience that comes with new shows. This starts of pretty good and moves at a good pace for the plot. If you play games then you will be familiar with the concept. So they're a lot of characters but you quickly get an idea of the main cast.

Pros:I liked the idea and you get intrigued with trying to figure out what's happening etc.

Con:After episode 2 I found myself skipping a lot of the dialogue. The sound of whinny, backstabbing and annoying teenagers bubble-wrapped in high school clique drama get tiresome very quickly.

I didn't like the leads they seem pretty dull and emotionless. You can't feel or route for any character as they're all irritating.

The longer you watch the less you become interested. You just want it to end so you can figure out what was happening and who had made the game. K-dramas love school based plots especially in the survival segment. Sadly this doesn't hit the spot for me!

Good Enough!
14 December 2023
I never heard of this show until I found myself looking for a new series to watch. It had a high rating and the reviews had me wanting to see it for myself. Well I got hooked instantly the setting and premise had me wanting more. Having watched Lee Dong-Wook in Tale of the Nine Tailed Fox I was excited. His bromance with the lead made it a fun ride along. But the star of the show for me was Kim Go-Eun. She absolutely nailed her role and performance, she was sweet funny and super cute. Even through every hardship her character had endured she manages to just keep you smiling.

This is a fantasy drama that is done and executed beautifully well ep1-14. But this is a 16ep show and after 14 I gave up as the story just lost it's magic. Without wanting to spoil it for others personally It felt like I was now watching a different series all together. Korean shows are done to high standard but 9 out 10 shows are poorly finished. The last episode always leaves you baffled it's like they run out of ideas and then just put together leftover cut scenes to try add another 60min. Which is a shame really as 10 star shows then drop to 7 and 8s. If this ended at ep14 or had different take from 15 then I would rate it as one of the best but not for me. I just didn't get get it after 14 but to each their own it's entertaining enough for my recommendation.

Euphoria!
11 December 2023
If you liked Twenty Five Twenty One then you will love Twinkling Watermelon. I went into this having a vague idea on what the synopsis was. However what I did not know is how hooked I would instantly be. It's a good thing I started watching this on a Friday rather than weekday as I would've had to call in sick. I binged watched all 16 episodes Fri-Sun...It was that good.

I loved the whole leading and supporting cast. As I watch a lot of Korean shows. I was already familiar with a lot of their other work which made this a wonderful reunion. TW is just beautiful in every way possible. Not a lot of fantasy dramas are executed as wonderful as this series. It's a beautiful roller coaster ride which will leave you wanting more and more. It was nostalgic and simply Euphoric!!!

Very Good but not as good as the high ratings suggest
8 December 2023
This is fantasy romance drama with a great lead in Jung Yoo-Min. She's incredibly stunning her presence of camera always draws you in. Her performance also makes you easily fall for her and route for her. You could feel the wave of emotions she goes through. You smile, cry and laugh with her through it all. The main lead guy is a great compliment to her as they had great chemistry.

The show is very well made and unlike most K-dramas it doesn't drag the plot. It moves very fast to its conclusion which makes this a good drama to watch. It's not perfect but the supporting cast do a great job as they played their roles well. You know they're good when all they do is leave a bitter taste in your mouth when they're on screen.

I liked it very much although the last episode was underwhelming. It's always like this with most K-dramas they usually don't know how to close out shows. They usually end up doing the most but it wasn't that bad. Nevertheless it's a great series but definitely is a bit overrated by many viewers like many other shows.

Should've stopped at 12episodes
3 December 2023
I watch a lot of K-drama since COVID 19 it's all I watch 9 out 10 times. They're well made and entertaining. This drama always came up on my recommended shows but I always ignored it. But after not having much to watch i decided to try it out and see why it had such a high rating.

I must say I was immediately hooked from ep1-11. The story was done and there was nothing more to add. Sure an ep12 was needed to show how they ended up after everything had come to light in ep11. All of which could've been done in one episode instead of 5 more pointless content.

12episodes K-dramas are so good for that very reason. This could've been one of the best shows ever but they ruined it by making it so long and pointless in the end. I literally had to skip through the last 3 episodes as it just became a whole lot of drivel. I just wanted it to stop by the time it was done. I had lost the love and connection for the leads by then.

Business Proposal and Perfect Marriage:Revenge are 12episode shows. They're well made and don't waste time adding unwarranted dialogue and scenes that add nothing to the show. It's such a shame really because this could and should've been a classic.
