Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
The Force is mildly strong with this one!
7.5 out of 10 for me. It's a good not great movie. The story is better than the screenplay. The casting is superb. Everyone shines, especially the two young leads John & Daisy. It is thrilling, emotional, and feels important without taking itself too seriously. All in all, a good start to the new trilogy. My only two gripes are how Kylo Ren was written which I find a bit weak. The character did not seem scary and mysterious like Darth was. And no detailed back story was provided. My second gripe is about how predictable the biggest plot point in the movie was to me! I could see it coming from miles away.
Of course, J.J. does a great job with action sequences as usual which are one of the best I have ever seen on any film, which makes the film a must see on an IMAX screen.
If J. J. & Kasdan improve on the first one, we will have classics on our hands. And fortunately, The Force Awakens gives us characters we care about and look forward to seeing again.
So. As I said... The original trilogy: Strong Force. The prequels: Very Weak Force. The first sequel: Mildly Strong Force....for now!
Vice (2015)
Worst Movie of The Year.
On 1/1, the first day of 2015, I saw the worst movie of the year. And probably one of the worst ever made.
I have no idea how this movie got green lit by a studio executive! 1 1/2 hours of a boring chase after chase in which everyone gets shot except the leading actress. She just runs in zigzag and avoids every single bullet coming at her!
If you see this movie. Keep notice of how the music is being used to heighten the suspense of many awful scenes. Absolutely hurried/horrid in every aspect. Directing, story, acting, editing, screenplay, music, and stunts/action. Avoid at all costs. Even for free!
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)
....."It feels thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread..!!"
This trilogy as a whole does not even reach half the level of the LOTR one. Again, Hollywood's greed took over and gave us an unnecessary three films out of one book. And the result is a long series of 'joyride' scenes, a couple of fights, and some isolated conversation scenes to form an incoherent trilogy that will not stand the test of time very well.
This last Hobbit chapter is filled with characters that you won't feel anything towards by the end. A love story that never was written by Tolkien. And a movie title war that doesn't feel half as intense as Helms Deep. Funnily enough. Aside from Bilbo. Alfred, who is the most pointless character in the film, was the most realized.
To me. This is not a movie trilogy. It's more of a game trilogy with Peter hogging the joystick to himself! You feel excited watching people play the first level. Get bored by the second. Then fell asleep by the third level. And in this trilogy, we the audience are mere watchers. We don't feel like we're apart of this joyride like we did in LOTR. In a sense, I see this trilogy as a slightly higher quality Transformers movie. You're watching for the adrenaline roller coaster, nothing else.
Two films would have sufficed Mr. Jackson. But I guess Bilbo(PJ) was corrupted by the ring after all. And greed has indeed reached the Shire(NZ).
Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014)
Ridley. You are no Mel Gibson!
What a waste of my time and money this movie was. Just feels wrong from start to finish. A fake epic devoid of any real emotions and soul.
Wish Mr. Scott has the courage someone like Mel Gibson had when he made this movie. Passion Of The Christ & Apocalypto are prime examples of a director willing to risk everything for what he believes in(even if you disagree with it). And after watching this film. I can safely say Ridley only believes in money.
Moses & Ramesses should've been played by middle eastern actors. Christian Bale should've played Moses' brother Aaron(according to old scriptures, he did most of the talking for Moses). While John Turturro & Sigourney Weaver casting was just plain wrong!
The story has been told so many times and it would've been much better if Ridley told the story of the Hebrews after leaving Egypt. Their 40- year Sinai plight for example. Started the film with the plagues & the Red Sea parting, then took off from there to show us events not many know of.
Don't waste your money on this. Wait for the director's cut then rent it. Maybe Mr. Scott can save this from the $4.99 shelf.
