Bones: The Parts in the Sum of the Whole (2010)
Disappointment with a capital 'D'
Let's start with the positives. My favorite part of the whole episode was the very last scene. Why? Because the actors were fantastic. Even throughout the whole episode, they took a sub-par script and made the best of it.
Some people are going to love this episode and I completely understand why. Bones and Booth finally kiss! Twice! However, although there are some great moments, that doesn't make the script great at all.
I am a huge fan of Bones, however this one of the worst episodes of the series so far (another bad episode being that dream sequence episode at the end of last season). Both of these episodes were disjointed and didn't really fit into the series well. Apparently the creator, Hart Hanson, wrote both episodes. It just felt that although he created the series, he hasn't actually watched an episode in years. It wasn't just that there was an overall detachment from the series, it was also the writing. At times certain things that Bones said were just plain stupid, like the "broiling a suspect". I was actually surprised that the writer hasn't written for NCIS, writing dialog for Ziva David.
Moonlight (2007)
Interesting start... probably not a keeper.
After watching the first episode of "Moonlight" I have to say that I am definitely disappointed.
I was not too happy with a lot of the acting performances. Alex O'Loughlin was great. A complete newbie to the American audience, he piqued my interest and I was impressed and engaged by his performance. Sophia Myles on the other hand just fell flat. Maybe she was just focusing too hard on getting her accent correct that she just forgot to actually work at other things. For someone with credits like hers, I expected a lot more. Other casting choices that I completely disagreed with were Brian J. White as "Lt. Carl Davis" and also Tami Roman as "Maureen 'Mo' Williams" (Beth's boss).
However all in all, the major downfall of the show was the writing. The pace was completely off. The dialogue could have been majorly improved as well. The overall story just left me thinking that it was just too generic and could possibly do well with more originality.
I give the first episode 6/10, which is completely way too generous. Hopefully the show either gets canceled or gets a lot better. At this point I may or may not watch any upcoming episodes... with my leaning towards not even bothering with this drivel any further.
Mi casa, su casa (2003)
Not in mi casa...
With it's 7.2 rating here on IMDB, I decided to watch this movie. However, I would give it 4/10. The script is pretty cheesy and at some moments I kept on thinking to myself, nobody in real life would actually do something like that. A lot of the time, I found the acting to reflect the script. I definitely won't recommend for anyone to put themselves through this movie unless they are just looking for a cute movie. This isn't a high quality movie in the least, it's just cute.
