Without Remorse (2021)
Cheapens Tom Clancy, Skip This One
If you've enjoyed reading Tom Clancy novels in the past, especially the titles that he personally wrote, you'd probably be extremely disappointed in this movie.
This movie is best avoided because it is a ridiculous adaptation with unimpressive acting performances and a poor quality storyline. It's almost the exact opposite of the quality of a genuine Tom Clancy story and if you take the time to go read one of his earlier novels (i.e., one that he actually wrote personally), you'll see what I mean.
If you're not already a Tom Clancy fan, this movie might deter you forever and you'd miss out on some incredible stories.
Kremen. Osvobozhdenie (2012)
A blend of Rambo and Sin City
For those who are as bored as I was with offerings available on Amazon Prime, this provided a decent few hours of entertainment and I'm glad I took the time to watch it.
This series is a sequel to Flint (also known as Kremen). Honestly, I enjoyed the original more than the sequel but there is enough combat action in this one to make it interesting as well. One would probably enjoy this sequel more if they have already watched the original.
The main character is sort of a Russian version of Rambo, only this guy is a far superior warrior. It also reminded me somewhat of the movie Sin City. This TV series is not animated like Sin City but some of the characters do have similar levels of character development (i.e., not much) and similar levels of exaggerated graphic novel or comic book characteristics.
War Pigs (2015)
possibly the WORST movie I've ever seen
Save your time and avoid this movie.
The plot was bad. The script was bad. The directing was bad.
Although he's not the only outlandishly cartoonish character, Mickey Rourke plays the role of something sort of like a cross between a cartoon character and the insane colonel played by Brando in Apocalpyse Now. If you want to see Mickey Rourke act in a movie that you will enjoy go watch Ashby. If you want to see Mickey Rourke act in a movie that will make you hope to never see him perform again, then watch this movie.
True Detective (2014)
season 1: excellent; season 2: ok; season 3: avoid
True Detective
Season 1
is an excellent story in every respect. I'd give it 8 or 9 stars out of 10 (which I rarely do, especially for a TV series). I don't have HBO so I had to purchase the season to watch it. It was worth every penny.
Season 2
Good, but not nearly as good as season 1. I'd give it 6 stars out of 10. If I had it to do over again I would probably not pay for the season (i.e., if I already had HBO, I'd probably watch it but wouldn't pay separately for it).
Season 3
This season was very disappointing. I wish I could get both my time and money back.
Bad Boys for Life (2020)
This movie stinks beyond comprehension
How did this happen?
The cast contains several talented actors. Everyone knows that these people can act. So how did this group of people make a movie that would put almost any living, breathing, thinking adult into a deep sleep before the halfway mark?
This movie lacked all the dynamics of the prevoius two movies (both of which I enjoyed very much). I don't remember anything funny at all. That's right, not a single thing.
Honestly, the impression I got is that the movie was filmed in one take and there was virtually no editing. And most of the actors didn't rehearse until 30 minutes before the filming started.
How did this happen? I have no idea, but the movie sucks. If you make it to the end, congratulations.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Let me help you change and improve the future (your future)
There is a memorable line in the movie that can be used as a lesson for you. It was said that you change your future with every decision that you make, and you can decide right now to change your future. The lesson: trust me when I say that your future is better if you've never seen this movie.
"Terminator: Dark Fate" is a big 'screw you' to everyone who ever enjoyed the original Terminator movie and the first sequel. The movie's plot isn't good enough to the viewer to even use a couple minutes create a parallel universe (ala XMen) where its ok that EVERY SINGLE THING IN THIS MOVIE DEFIES THE ENTIRE PLOT OF THE FIRST DOZEN SEQUELS. OK, I admit that I lost count there of the actual number of sequels, but hopefully you got the point.
Hollywood has added 'wokeness' to this movie but that is not what makes it so bad. The movie is just not very good at all. Then, add a dose of really bad wokeness on top of that and it makes it worse. I've marked the spoiler warning so I could go ahead and give it to you straight: how does a girl who just a few minutes ago had never heard of a 'kill box' and knows absolutely nothing about combat tactics suddenly decide that this is where there 'kill box' is and this is where they are going to make their last stand (without a plan or any good weapons, I might add). The plot holes are so large you could drive a Star Wars death star through them.
Sadly, they left an opening for another sequel. If you're reading this, I'm warning you that this movie is horrible. I watched it for free on Amazon Prime but am still mourning for my lost future that I could have had if I had never ever seen this movie. If you heed my advice, there is a chance, albeit a small one, that the universe can be spared another sequel.
Uncle Tom (2020)
Excellent and necessary, especially for those who aren't already history buffs!
I wasn't expecting to learn much from this documentary because I've been studying history for years (i.e., on my own, not professonally) and I'm pretty well caught up on the many speeches and interviews available on youtube with several of the people who made this film. Having said that, I learned enough from this film to make it well worth the time and money and I'm very glad that I rented it.
I expect that for any viewer who is new to the topics of discussion, it will blow them away and make it nearly impossible for them to walk away unchanged.
