Beetlejuice (1988)
The best film ever made.
My title says it all. I believe this is the greatest film ever made. It's been my ultimate favourite since I was 12 when it came out and nothing has come close to it since. I love Tim Burton and this film introduced me to him and his style and I've been a devotee ever since.
It's quirky, strange, funny, dark, tragic and just so watchable. If I had to watch just one film for the rest of my life I'd be more than happy to give up every other movie ever made and keep this to watch over and over forever.
Fantastic soundtrack by the amazing Danny Elfman as usual, Elfman and Burton are the ultimate combo.
Simply the best. End of.
The Garbage Pail Kids Movie (1987)
Classic 80s cult viewing
Everyone should just stop complaining about how bad this is, that's what makes it so amazing!! I'm 47 now and had a huge collection of GPK cards when I was about 10 and this film takes me right back to my fab childhood 80s days. I love how they use props in this with no CGI or effects or anything, it makes it so raw and of it's time.
The storyline is just basic and a bit rubbish but it's all part of its retro charm. I enjoy it more now as I bought the DVD but still quite some of it with my brother who's 3 years younger then me. Leave it alone, and enjoy it. 80s kids rule.
Rats and thunder wind and hail, send the kids back in the pail!
The Monster Project (2017)
Ok but.....
I had high hopes for this as I'm a big fan of found footage horror but found myself wishing it would finish.
It started quite well and I liked the side storyline of the characters friendships running alongside the main story. I also enjoyed the Satanic twist at the end, however I felt there was too much of the 'survival running around the house' part of the film which I think could have been about 20 minutes less.
The SFX were a bit mediocre and the jump scares totally predictable which is a shame as I'm constantly looking for a good jumpscare to have that feeling we horror fans all crave.
All in all I have a 4/10 because I liked it a bit.
Hammer House of Horror (1980)
Outstanding
I remember these as a kid, especially the doppelgänger/hitch hiker story, and have forever had the image of the yellow coated hitch hiker standing on the hill engrained in my head. Now having watched them all again a number of times as an adult and lover of all things horror, I can totally appreciate why. The low budget-ness of every episode adds to the eerieness of the episodes, they are creepy but just brilliant and deal with horror in different ways compared to modern horror. There's no jump scares or gore or anything like that, it's just atmospheric but in a creepy retro way. The 2 Faces of Evil will always have a special place in my heart.....that image though, it'll never leave me.
Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities (2022)
Fantastic!
This. Is. AMAZING!! These stories are so good, classic Del Toro material and I'm loving everything about it. The stories are kind of creepy but not scary (imo) but I especially love how the style of the camera work makes you feel like you're actually there, the close ups in The Outside are a good example of this along with being in the rat tunnels in Graveyard Rats.
I really love anthology type horror, and this is no different, each story is set in a different time which I think is great.....the Autopsy room being my favourite setting ( yes I'm strange!)
The look and feel of everything including the titles is just so good and I just hope more series are to come. 10/10 yes yes YES!!!!!
It Chapter Two (2019)
Hmmmm
The 1990 version is the ultimates and imo the best. Part 1 in 2017 was great, this one however is not. Too much cgi going on and the giant naked old lady and massive woodcutter statue thing are what spoil it. Watch it if there's nothing else on.
The Mortuary Collection (2019)
Great film
The film was good but if anyone is looking here for info on the soundtrack, like I did, then the track you're looking for is by The Mondo Boys and it's called Suicide and it's not anywhere to download but hope this helps.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
Best Halloween horror
Don't expect any Michael Myers action, this is a completely separate story. It's a fab 80s horror and one I remember from my childhood....you'll never get that jingle out of your head!!!
Silver Shamrock!!
Haunted (2018)
Spooky fun
Clearly these are not true stories as Netflix suggest, obviously that's a marketing tool which has clearly backfired judging by the many negative reviews people have given. As a long time horror and spooky anything fan, I really enjoyed this. It was like a long horror anthology film with great visuals and effects.
It's a shame people believe the stories are true and have subsequently rated this poor because the people involved in the stories need therapy or whatever, you could say the same about Michael Myers and his sister obsession yet he's a horror icon!
If you take this as great spooky stories told and illustrated really well then you'll enjoy it like I did.
