Blue Eye Samurai (2023)
Good but nothing spectacular
I'm so baffled by the amount of 10/10 high praised reviews, it almost looks like the organized bot network for false reviewing.
Yeah, this show has nice animation, but nothing which hasn't been already seen soo many times. And that's all.
Story is so cliche. Main character is one dimensional and grumpy. That Kung Fu Panda-a-like guy was so much better and more likable than main character.
Season one started good, somehow realistic, but it lost its steam in the middle just to became totally ridicule and unrealistic at the end.
Cmon no one can even stand on their feet with a spear in their heel, let alone walk, run or jump and defeat the army of angry monkeys, no matter of being male or female. Also they portrayed the guns being more accurate than snipers, where each salvo of 10 guns killed 10 persons, when its known fact about those guns was so inaccurate. They started the show with great realism, why couldn't they stick with that through the whole season!?
And main villain was so disappointingly easily defeated, despite the fact that they been building him as devilishly cunning and almost superhuman.
IMHO this show got the most of its charm by borrowing (stealing?) from so may other similar stories, yet it offered nothing at the end, except the continuation of the story, just like so many other shows.
No closure, just endless plot which serves just to get viewers hooked on.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Cry Trek: Tearfuly
Despite being open minded SF nerd I find this show unwatchable.
I support my LGBTQ friends, I advocate gender and race equality.
But, it's one thing for TV show to occasionally support various causes but to have em constantly smashed with the boot into our faces every minute of the show, this I cannot stand. That's is when once interesting and amusing theme turns into pure propaganda.
Also, I never saw so much crying in one TV show. Burnham cries for minutes in almost all episodes in the show. Someone even created Michael Burnham Crying Compilation on Youtube. Instead of many other interesting and new things, they wants us to watch her teared face taking whole screen and crying endlessly. Its not just her. Most of crew is one big blob of drama queens.
Away (2020)
Surprisingly good
TBH I almost skipped this title because of bad reviews here. And I'm so glad that I didn't. Almost everything I watch and read is SF related, so I could say that developed specific eye for this genre where I don't like to see that protagonists are making obviously illogical or bad decisions just for the sake of the plot.
In this show everything is carefully tailored and executed, spiced with good acting, and despite the fact that it had a tad much of drama for my taste, I must say that I fully enjoyed it.
I don't know what other disappointed reviewers expected from this show. I started to watch it without any expectations and finished pleasantly entertained.
The Man from Earth: Holocene (2017)
I've shouldn't have watched it
IMHO first movie was everything: Interesting, clever, intriguing, intelligent, captivating, just continue with superlatives...
Heck, I registered here just to be able to rate it, and I've praised it to my friends. Most of them liked it as well.
I was thrilled when I've heard about this sequel and I was eager to watch it.
Now I would like to un-watch it, because it was completely unnecessary, it actually destroyed mystique of first movie.
Infini (2015)
A pleasant surprise
This movie deserves better ratings. At 1st I hesitated because of low IMDb score, hopefully I decided to give it a try. Infini doesn't rely on superstars or spectacular super expensive CGI like most of nowadays SciFi hits. It has something much better instead: a good story, good acting, good scenery and good pace. Yes, you'll probably notice some (inevitable) similarities with other movies: problem in isolated station, missing crew, madness, shooting, chasing, you'll expect monster(s) to pop out from dark corners, but at the end you'll be rewarded with pretty unique story. A finished story. Not with half baked "something", without start or end, or without any explanation at all. When I'm watching any movie, I expect story finished, and Infini delivers it.
The Man from Earth (2007)
Masterpiece
This movie made me register here just to post my line of admiration. I started to watch it, without any knowledge about plot, and was slowly (but inevitably) pulled in.
I must say that "The Man from Earth" is truly refreshment, one of the best movies I saw recently. No fancy effects, no false heroism, no huge explosions, just mesmerizing story. I specially liked disappearing of furniture in background, which reduced set to actors, fireplace and cosy couch only. Movie ending leaves you with questions, old as human race:
What is hidden behind those shiny stars...
Some aspects in story is similar with Zeitgeist the movie.
