Creepshow: All Hallow's Eve/The Man in the Suitcase (2019)
2 good stories but...
First story suffers from bad acting all around. Second story is more watchable in that regard. Both have satisfying conclusion, though i wish the production was better because this series has so many good ideas.
Malignant (2021)
Malignant
First and second act - cliche supernatural story with somewhat competent yet boring craft, third act - strong reveal with movie gears into something entirely different. James Wan does what he does best, takes ideas from many different movies, puts them in a single movie. You see elements of ghost films, elements of "Light out" from 2015, body horror, 90's HK shlock gore fest and so on.
In a way he is like Quentin Tarantino of Horror genre, he is not the most original director but he knows how to put together ideas in a single film to entertain.
6/10.
Bates Motel (1987)
Made for TV
Bates Motel 1987, with camera work and melodrama that resembles soap operas and writing that makes you wish for syfy quality, this movie is bad even by TV movie standarts.
If you want more "Psycho", watch literally anything else. The "Psycho" sequels are more than watchable or the TV show offers something good. Just avoid this one.
Kumo Desu ga, Nanika?: My old friend, why ...? (2021)
Mecha
The story keeps going forward, the animation keeps getting backwards. Will the final episode finally be presented slide show format ? Mecha elves in power point, let's go!
Godzilla, King of the Monsters! (1956)
Mockumentary of Godzilla
I watched this film right after finishing original Godzilla. Every character's interaction and characterization butchered into bare skeleton at the expense of narrator-character "Steve Martin" an American reporter. The all important nuclear-hydrogen bomb parallel almost glossed over. After reading about this film's history, the only good thing about it is that it introduced Godzilla to Western audiences. Some fascinating shots from the original film kept at least which makes it slightly bearable. This is one the earliest template of "dumbing down" by film studios.
