Still Breathing (1997)
hot, hot, hot!!!
Oh, my GOD!!!! For years, I've had a thing for Brendan. This movie sealed the deal. He is too hot for words in this flick!!! The chemistry between the players is freakin' amazing!! My poor hubby searched high and low on the internet to find a copy of this for me, and fortunately, when our house was robbed last Christmas, they left my all time fave movie. I don't care just how "hardened" you may have become in the dating world...this movie will remind you what romance is all about. Being a Texas with a heart felt fondness for San Antonio doesn't hurt, either. Ladies...I guarantee that after this movie, your night will be filled with pleasant and slightly naughty dreams....especially the wife beater, personal serenity device...and OHMYGOD....the slide show scene. AHAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Trust me, it's a gooder!!!! You'll love it!
The Shining (1997)
This IS the true Shining
Regardless of previous comments made to the contrary, this miniseries finally did justice to one of Stephen King's greatest efforts. I cannot understand how anyone could think that the first Kubrick disaster was a "masterpiece". More like a "mess-terpiece", as far as this King fan is concerned. The only saving grace of the first movie was Jack Nicholson's lunatic performance, and even that fell short of showing the true character of Jack Torrance. He wasn't simply a madman. He was a kind, loving husband and father facing some horrible challenges and circumstances in his life, and we, as reader got to slowly watch his world unravel and his descent into madness. I guess some folks just don't get the gist of this story. It's not all about the gore, spooks, etc. That's just the frosting on the cake. The true tragedy in this story is the destruction of a man's mind and the destruction of his family. Steven Weber did a superb job as Jack Torrence, and Rebecca DeMornay's Wendy Torrance was a HUGE improvement over the whiny, frail, and quite frankly, sickening portrayal done by Shelley Duvall. As far as the young actors portraying Danny Torrance, I recognize these are both child actors doing their very best with the material they were dealt. Unfortunately, Danny Lloyd of the Kubrick version got the short end of the stick. Courtland Mead did a far more believable performance in the miniseries.
For any die-hard Stephen King fan, I urge you to rent this DVD and judge for yourselves. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
Too damn funny
Just one of the most clever and funny movies I've ever seen. For those with the standard, boring, generic sense of humor? Probably not that great. But for those of us with an open, quirky and unique sense of humor and the ability to laugh at ourselves and the society in which we live, it's GREAT. Some of these gals were first time actresses and absolutely shined. Too bad they were never pick out again after this effort. Highly recommended for a good laugh...especially if you're having a "girl's night" with your friends. Pick out some good wine, all the fattening snacks everyone loves, sit back, watch, and laugh you booties off. That's not to say the guys won't enjoy it....there are some out there who get where this movie is coming from. My husband loved it.
Love at First Bite (1979)
Music
Okay....maybe I've lost my marbles, but in the scene where George and Susan are dancing in the discotechque, I could have sworn I remember hearing the song, "I love the Nightlife" by Alicia "somebodyorother". Tonight we watched a copy of the movie I purchased on E-bay, and the music was some song apparently itled "Get Ready for the Ride". Anyone else discover this discrepency??? Maybe i was sleeping, but I could have sworn the music was completely different in this scene. OK - according to the rules, I have to complete 10 lines in order for this to print. In he meantime, I'll just tell you that this is one of my all-time favorite movies from the 70s. I laughed my ass off the first time I saw it, and still do.
The Changeling (1980)
It's a definite "gooder"!
For those folks (like myself) who like the old, spookier than hell movies without all the blood and gore, this is a gooder. Just enough of a poignant storyline, grief, and a good HEALTHY dose of scarey stuff. You'll really love this one. If you liked Ghost Story, this one is along those same lines with a better plot and better "spooks"!
Enjoy!
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Loved it!!!
This is one of those rare movies that both parents and kids enjoy to the max! The humor is good for both adults and kids, and action keeps everyone on the edge of their seats, and the "spook" issue is just perfect for kids....makes you jump and raises a few goose pimples, but no out and out gore (which I, personally, adore) to gross out the kiddies. My family loved it, and can't wait until it hits video so we can have our own copy. Johnny Depp is the ultimate cutie!
Drop Dead Fred (1991)
Too much fun!!!
All of this movie is a good excuse for a giggle...but watch for the restaurant segment. I couldn't stop laughing the first time I saw the "invisible" Fred controlling Lizzie's movements. This is one of those "feel good" movies. Never gets old.
