Are Koreans pissed?
15 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
We start with an American who orders the poisoning and causes the subsequent events. We continue with an American who in a fit of heroism sacrifices his feet and then his life to stop the monster in a frenzy. Then there is an American who puts the main character (Korean) under a torture. Later, the United States is releasing a poison that has killed all the living beings, along with people, in the midst of a large Korean city. Finally: The United States has announced on the world TV that they were wrong.

P.P. After the end of the WW2, Korea is painfully broken up in Soviet and American parts. The US government pours $ 13 billion (thirteen billion dollars) into South Korea. Since then, South Korea has virtually became American territory.

Feeling fear in the air?
8 July 2018
I'm a 40 years old from neighboring Bulgaria and remember quite well what was back then in 1988. But have no intention on arguing about the truthfulness of the movie.

I was curious to see the development and yes - the end was indeed a disappointment with its unreality. But more intriguing was to ascertain something that I notice the last few years - a fear that seemingly shakes certain circles. Fear originating from the growing desire and struggle of more and more people and groups for social equality and rights. Once again in history.

As these movements go stronger the propaganda machine is breaking up to spread the fear from the communist ghost again. As it was during the First and Second Red Scare, through Reagan's and Thatcher's ruling... and apparently will be every time in future until critical mass of people takes out the air from these circles by not playing by their rules.

P.S. Pity for the money, spent on this creation.

Takes you out of your comfortable nest
8 June 2013
The movie is brilliant - the people before me have said it. Then why am I writing about it?

There are few films telling something important. Brazil has made one.

It makes you think - an action that lots of us tend to forget... It thrills you, it makes you cry, it makes you angry. It makes you willing to do something.

Don't be surprised if you feel that it filled an empty space in you.

There is still a strangling feeling 1 hour after the end of the movie... Because I saw a life so common to what we have here in Eastern Europe. And I realized how close to each other we really are. The truth is common.

So, prepare for a hard and impacting movie.

A poem of the egoism and narrow-mindedness of humans
6 March 2013
You think that you've seen gay movies and this one is the next one in a row. Honestly?

No gay feeling throughout the whole movie. No spicy thoughts, no scandal. You can cry a river and become more and more angry at the human narrow-mindedness. A masterpiece revealing everybody's obsession with the idea of purity, straightness and order. An order that has to be simple - everything that is disturbing it has to be thrown behind the board...

A simple movie with a complex message... or a complex movie with a simple message. Choose by yourself.

Anna Karenina (I) (2012)
4/10
Theater? No... A movie? No.
26 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
An attempt to tell a story, that failed dramatically. First the good about it: - traditionally good acting from the leading actors and not only; - interesting visual approach - a drama like "Anna Karenina" is ought to be set as a theatrical play - the decors, the stage, the sudden jumps in the action, the surrealistic atmosphere; - marvelous costumes that suited Keira very well ;). And that's all.

The rest is wrecked: - count Vronsky, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, is one of the weakest parts of the movie - a good actor with a wrongly chosen role; - the costumes had nothing to do with that time's dressing - they were so vanguard that could bring shame on nowadays most vanguard fashion designers; - nothing from the spirit of the Leo Tolstoy's novel - no Russian habits, no Russian nature, no Russian outlook of the actors (may be some make up would have helped), no Russia. And the novel is so Russian...;

This version of "Anna Karenina" is may be one of the most notable attempts, but there is a lot to be done yet.

A living built on contrasts...
15 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The overall suggestion of the movie is so strong that some imperfections could be bypassed - for example, needless blood coverage and unrealistic shreds all over the garments of the students after the protest. And mainly the whole overjoy dominating the first half.

It is understandable that the contrast makes the suggestion stronger.

May be this is the only way an Indian can suggest an idea?! :)) Or may be this is just how life happens in India - with constant contrasts...

What am I saying?! Why India only? ;)

P.S. You can expect to laugh and cry sincerely in this movie. And above all, you'd probably want to go to see this country, like I did.

It'll make your day, week... or life better
7 December 2012
A different world, different relations, different love...

All in one.

If you are not sure about the meaning of life - after this movie you'll be more confident that it has some :)

This is a movie that puts smile on your face. A movie that grabs your deepest and most sincere emotions and brings them out to the surface. It makes you feel like... purified.

At some moments during the movie I asked myself if such story could be real... If such relations could exist...

I feel they could.

A film about pure and innocent love. See it - it'll make your day, week... or life better.

I fell in love with the Jew...
21 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
... the very moment he passed the gun to his friend.

Ugly movie. Noisy, disgusting even. Also childish and innocent.

At least 2 stories in it:

1. The smaller one - how mighty you could feel when carrying a gun. How inhuman you become just because of possessing it. But when it comes to the real killing - the fully conscious one - you feel you have choice. And you choose.

2. The bigger story is the suffocating realization of the scale of the terror. You receive a detailed picture of the quiet torture that represents the everyday life of a great part of the humans in "civilized Europe" (and America, and Asia, and Africa, and Australia).

Just for the case they are gathered in Paris.

This movie won't be seen by any of the people who live such kind of life. Pity.

But any of the rest is obliged not to remain indifferent.

Sticks to your mind...
9 November 2012
Yes, the movie sticks like a glue to your imagination.

That Trier... how is he doing this? Does Kirsten make the movie?

I can only describe my reaction: since I've seen it when somebody asks me which movie to watch, Melancholia is first thought that comes to my mind.

But it is hard to recommend a film that might easily disgust a tender soul :)))

So, I keep it in reserve for the closest ones... For punishment (joke) :)

Just prepare for slow developments and you'll be amazed!

P.S. If you feel your moral is at the highest levels, this is not your movie! It contains scenes in which you can feel yourself at least uncomfortable. Not that it is an exception in the modern cinematography, but here it feels like it happens directly to you. You sense it with the hair of your skin. Especially the ending ;)

The Message (1976)

A splendid tale... And that's all.
8 November 2012
In the beginning (first 1/3) I was enthusiastic about how I'll learn more about Islam and find out why so many people are under it's impact...

And I found out:

1. There are the same old virtues preached - behavior and qualities that have ever been, are and will be actual. They always win attention.

2. The "new" religion gave though the liberty for one to fight with weapon for his (religion's) values and maintain it viral thus. Otherwise it'd die quickly and without glory. It is tempting to know that you're allowed to kill in the name of... virtues.

3. The "new" religion made a promise to the men that they will ever be a supreme race. No matter if they are rich or poor, crippled or in great health... Always above the other half of the humanity. This unites at least 1/2 of the population of an area.

4. Education - Mohamed proclaimed it and made it an affordable dream, which obviously the creators of the movie assume as a reality. Although everybody knows that religion/authority blossoms on ignorant masses' back. (and they are too ignorant to see it :))

Where were left the following promises:

  • equality between men and women; - non violence; - equality between nations and religions?

In the movie somehow too quickly total opponents were turned into followers.

I believe that masses can be rushed into everything, but this movie says that it can and had been done beautifully and nobly :)

Finally, the movie turns out to be a simple, tender, precise propaganda. The next one in a row.

10 not because it is perfect...
6 November 2012
When the movie ends and your breath still can't calm down and you want to share what you've just seen with the closest ones... it deserves 10.

Definitely not the perfect action/adventure. But I don't suppose it was meant to be such.

"People", he repeated all the time - "people" were everywhere. People were the soldiers, people were the trees, the fire, the wind, the beasts in the wood...

It amazed me enormously the idea of a man so well living with the nature (not "in"), so respecting it that it has been turned into a part of him.

A great example of how surviving does not make you necessarily mean and angry man. ...But a truly loving one.
