Kandahar (2023)
Writer is a vet
Gripping, intense and an exciting tale. Makes all the difference when the Author served on multiple intelligence deployments to Afghanistan. He writes with the authority and knowledge of procedure only a vet can know - and it shows. Kudos also to the Texan director Ric Roman Waugh, for his tight direction and crisp storytelling. He kept his talented cast in a nice ensemble and used the subtext in much of the dialogue in a compelling manner. Nicely shot with some superb photographic images, particularly the evening helicopter chase sequence. Also super tight editing, a pulsating score underneath and huge sound effects. Congratulations to all cast and crew. And Mr. Butler take a bow. Another fine role for you.

"THE AUSTRALIAN"

Tomorrow A Mile is a strange sci-fi style story of a man (Lex Mitchell) who tunes in on
thought-waves, and his head is a cacophony of other peoples' fantasies and idle
ruminations.
Barry Brown (sound recordist) has done a really superb job of evocative sound
recording here, and Ross Hamilton, the director, keeps his story and actors at the
end of their psychological tether the whole time.
Indeed, Hamilton might do well to consider concentrating on suspense for a while at
least.
With Tomorrow A Mile, he's shown an impressive grasp of "setting it up," and I think
after a couple more short outings like this one he'll be ready to tackle a feature.
It's evident he has talent, although detail attention was lacking - there were some
appalling continuity lapses.
But I'll watch his progress with interest.
The Legend of Ben Hall (2017)
Top Australian movie.
This is one of the finest Australian films of the last ten years. It is a masterfully told true story full of dangerous action scenes and wonderful suspense. Writer-Director is a new talent to keep a close eye on. For someone so young, he has demonstrated a mature sensitivity and depth in the telling of this important historical story. Race out through the wind and rain to grab a copy on Blu-ray! It's a top picture!
