Gradius III and IV (2000)
2 Classics in One
What a let down was GRADIUS III on the super famicom. the slowdowns are horrible, technical said the game was too much for the power of Nintendo's super famicom.
in year 2000 Konami decide to bring both games on CD for the playstation2 system. Technical there is no update to the arcade versions. only in Gradius III you can set the speed up&down to avoid slowdowns.
So III will be displayed with sprites, while IV displaying polygon-graphics. The music is based on classic themes of the Gradius History. yes, while the boss rush you hear the classic "boss on parade" theme. nostalgic moments of childhood & youth will often come up to you, while you pick power-up capsules and upgrade the Vic Viper to a powerful spaceship.
so my end review:
GRADIUS III - Prelude of Legends (1989) + : Weapon edit mode, Stage select, Well-designed Bosses - : No update in Graphics, no credits, the cube "challenge"
GRADIUS IV - Resurrection (1998-99) + : colorful good graphics, some good music themes, the boss rush - : no weapon edit mode, some unfair passages, some cheesy music
all in all i say this games are worthful to every nostalgic arcade gamer who misses the old time. for me. i miss it :)
But for all who want the full compilation, should take a look on GRADIUS COLLECTION. all games includes expect of GRADIUS V.
9/10 rating... bye ^^
Gradius V (2004)
GRADIUS V - 2 Controllers, 2 Players, Unlimited Fun
Planet Gradius is in danger again, so the Vic Viper T-301 is on next mission to destroy the menace from the bacterias of venom.
With all features that the Gradius Series includes, supreme new installments debuts in Gradius V. Major debut: the all-new multiples control which includes: Freeze / Direction / Spacing and Rotate. All of this controls giving the game a deeper game play and makes it worth playing it again cause all controls have specific strategy. Example: with FREEZE you reach the cores easier, with ROTATE you have an extra shield for enemies (but not for shoots).
The Graphics are supreme and if you played it in 60HZ you will get a extra graphic effect when Stage-Bosses explode (awesome!!!).
The Sound effects are great as well, you feel the bounce in your speakers every time. However, the explosions of the little formations in the beginning of a stage are a little weak, but you can live with it!
And The Game Stage Design? Well I enjoyed every Stage, well-designed areas of asteroids, huge spaceships, you feel in place that you are in a deep galaxy. And I want more, more and more.
So I involve my Buddy and hours of hours passed until we reach the final confrontation.
Some critic have every game I played, so GRADIUS V have one critic:
Some situations are unfair and you must have luck to pass the situation.
But to say finally:
GRADIUS V is the perfect Game for 2 players who wish to became heroes! And heroes are needed in this game....
Graphic: 9 Sound: 10 Gameplay: 9 Rating (Imbd): 10
Howard the Duck (1986)
One of my favorite flicks
Howard The Duck... My Father rent it at a local videostore in 1988. From the Intro to the credits I enjoyed every second of this beautiful story, which became a rescue mission at the last part of the movie. I must say I watch the German sync, what is way better than the original for my opinion, the jokes really worked in German.
But what was absolute awesome how Jeffrey Jones acting the Dark Overlord. On the one side Scary to death, the other side very funny with the best sarcastic humor I ever saw in a movie. "She took my eggs" ^^
And Tim Robbins who plays the Role of Phil, is good as Lea Thompson who played the lovely role as Beverly. The dump police guy who gives the police chief the "good" tip to call it a ....hunt makes me laugh every time I saw that movie(that's quiet sure over 100 times)!!
The Director Willard Huyck makes the perfect movie for Saturdays hangout with your buddies with a six-pack and a lot of snacks.
Don't take this flick to serious, it's good enjoyable entertainment^^ No more Mr. Nice Duck!
