Cheaper by the Dozen (2003)
disappointment
I went into the movie expecting a decent film of the remake. Instead, I see another movie with a predictable ending, poorly acted and annoying characters, and a weak and unbelievable storyline. The younger children were the worse, especially Sarah. They constantly whined. There were some good moments in the film, such as the Ashton Kutcher parts, but the storyline seemed so fake and the ending was REALLY predictable.
Laserhawk (1997)
Cheesy
This movie looks like it was made ten years ago. The special effects were horrible. At times, the movie was interesting, but the ending was awful. The story became predictable at times too. Nothing was unique about the movie, it was the same old Alien wants to destroy Earth type of story, and only these chosen few can save Earth. The music was horrible, it made the movie even worse and even more corny.
A Troll in Central Park (1994)
Corny at times
This is a great movie... if you are a kid. If not, this movie will seem very boring and corny at times. I remember seeing this movie as a child, and thought it was very good, some scenes made me cry. But when I look back at the movie, it seemed to have lost that magic. Stanley, the troll, loves flowers, is cute and so are Gus and Rosie. However, I thought the music was terrible, and the smiley flowers annoyed me. The plot is really predictable, and the movie goes too far with the villain. I though Gnorga was annoying especially with the "I hate flowers" thing.
Lorna Doone (2000)
Typical romance film
The movie was a bit predictable, however aside from that, I thought the acting was great. The movie created a feeling for the countryside and farming life, showing how close the family was bonded together. The story takes place in 17th century England, and is a typical love story, filled with revenge and jealousy. The actress who played Lorna is lovely. Lorna Doone also has an excellent soundtrack as well as pleasant scenery.
The Secret Garden (1993)
Good family movie
As a child I remember watching this movie when it first came out, and I still haven't gotten bored from watching it. This movie came out the way I imagined it while reading book, even the children. However, there were slight differences in the movie. The scenery was beautiful, especially the scenes in the garden, which were nicely shot. Unlike some movies, the children can really act and are very convincing. Maggie Smith did a good job as Mrs. Medlock, her character was acted out nicely, sometimes I hated her character, but sometimes I felt sympathy towards Medlock. A good movie to watch with the family, and children will find it entertaining.
The Gorgon (1964)
cheesy horror film
This movie is your typical cheesy Technicolor horror film. The story will seem familiar, because it's about the legend of Medusa's sister Mageara. Like Medusa, anyone who stares at her will turn into stone. Apparently, the whole town is too fearful to admit that this myth is true even when some townspeople turn into stone.
The ending is somewhat surprising, but I thought it was pretty predictable once the movie got to the last 30 minutes. The makeup and costume of Mageara was cheap looking and not very convincing, and the eerie music sounds like a rip-off of many other horror films. I heard that the lady who played Mageara offered to use real snakes for the hair but budget was low and this did not happen.
The story line isn't that bad, but the movie looks like it's on a low budget. The movie is moderately scary, so if you are looking for a really scary movie I would skip this one.
Ben-Hur A Tale of the Christ (1925)
great achievement for a silent film
When I heard there was a silent version, I didn't think it would be possible to even come close to the 1950's version. So I decided to try it. I was impressed when I saw the movie. The special effects were ahead of its time, and somewhat realistic. I thought the movie would have cheap effects but I was wrong. The chariot scene was wonderful to watch, and the acting although exaggerated (like most silent films) was still able to convey the feeling and mood of the story Ben-Hur.
