Malevolence (2003)
Best Horror Film of the New Millennium
I was at the premiere in Worcestor Mass and let me tell you....this was one of the best new horror films of the millennium. I have a part of the review I did on my website for the movie. One great horror movie this is. I encourage everyone to see it, this is going to be the next big thing. I have seen a lot of horror films in my time, and I am not one of those teeny bopper loving people who think TCM remake is the greatest thing ever made. No. I am a lover of the old fashion and classic horror of the 80s, 70s, 60's...the good horror. So take it from a true horror fan when I say....this movie deserves to be put up there with the likes of TCM, Halloween and all of the greats.
Whats the story you ask? I am not going to kill anything in the movie, so I am going to give a rough description. Trust me, it's worth it. Created as the middle section of a three-part trilogy, Malevolence takes place ten years after the disturbing crimes of a extremely deranged madman. When a bank robbery goes wrong and the robbers are forced to split and run. They end up coming across a creepy old house in the middle of the country. Running scared, jail is the least of there fears for what befalls them is 100 times worse then anyone could have imagined. Little do Julian and Marylin know that they are now being stalked and hunted by a deranged maniac. So what happens the two of them? Well...you will just have to see the movie for yourself to find out.
To the acting, Brandon Johnson plays Julian, the bank robber with a conscience and I have to say, he was great in this movie. His performance was top notch and enhances the movie, great, great great job! He is going places and his performance in Malevolence is living proof of that. He also stars in "Little Erin Merryweather " so I'm going to be checking that out as well. Samantha Dark does good as Samantha, the kidnapped mother who fears for her daughters life. She showed some great emotions that usually have people laughing in horror films but she had you believing every bit of it. Heather Magee was Marylin, Julian's partner in crime and g/f and she was solid as well and what a set of tonsils on her! Wow. Nice screams Heather, nice screams. Richard Glover does OK as Kurt the kidnapping bank robber. Keith Chambers does decent as Marylins brother/bank robber. Courtney Bertolone as Courtney, Samantha's kidnapped daughter makes her presence known, I usually don't like kids in horror movies but Courtney was the exception to that rule.
Now to the directing...while this may in fact be Steven's directorial debut but I'll be damned if this wasn't the most intense and bone chilling directorial debut's since Sam Raimi and Evil Dead! Instead, it has a style and a passion behind it not seen since John Carpenter came on the screen. He has created what I would consider a soon to be horror classic by writing a great script, incredible directing, and composing some extremely chilling scores for this movie. Finally a director who KNOWS how to do accomplish what he set out to do, scare the audience till they can't take anymore. Steven Mena is a name you will soon come to know and respect. He is has a bright future ahead and Malevolence is only the beginning. I tip my hat off to off for a job very well done.
Malevolence is a horror film for the horror fans, the people who respect the genre and know what a good horror film needs to be good. In the beginning of the movie, the scares a few and far between but thats cause of character development. But once we get to know the characters, Mena let's us have it with scare, after scare, after bone chilling scare. He takes full advantage of everything around him and makes it so you are fearing what lurks behind every door, closet, window, and in the creepiest cellar since the original Psycho. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Evil Dead, Halloween, Psycho, Friday the 13th, Suspiria, to say Malevolence is up there with the ranks of those films could be hard to believe. But believe it, this horror homage not only pays respect to these films, but deserves a spot right up there with them and a place in every horror fans video library.
This is one great horror film and I believe anyone who wants to see not only a scary as heck horror film, but a good movie, should check Malevolence out! I'm outtie.
Extreme Ops (2002)
Not as bad as one would think
I went into this movie with a open mind, after having been told by everyperson alive that it would be a waste of time, I went in hoping they were wrong. Well I am happy to say, they were. The film is very entertaining and actually is a very cool movie to watch. To bad it's opening up now, they should have held it from coming out at least till a time when there weren't so many blockbusters opening up. But I really enjoyed this movie and you all should check it out. The story is about this commercial director who does these insane stunts (like the mountain dew commercials) with extreme sports. They have a chance to make it BIG so what they do is instead of making a CGI avalanche scene, they decide to do it for real. So they call in the pros and they go down to the mountain ski lodge. They get jipped on there rooms and end up staying in a secluded resort. THat night, 2 of them go exploring the place and follow a hot babe into a room, they video tape her and her supposed father and then get chased off by dogs. Only thing is...it wasn't her father...and the guy who they video taped...faked his death on a plane and is presumed dead. Wanted by the FEDS, once he finds out they have a tape of him...he will do anything to get it back! The story goes from there, I was pretty impressed by the stunts and also, the fact that the avalanche scene looked awesome! Unlike that lousy special effects used in Blue Crush. Bridgette Wilson is beautiful and hot in this movie (as always) and now I am mad cause she is married and not to me!!! >:( Anyway, I give this movie a 7/10. Wasn't the greatest movie, but it sure as heck isn't the worst! It will take you by surprise!!!
Terminal Invasion (2002)
They could all be aliens...
That is a line the great Bruce Campbell says in this flick. This movie was awesome. Reminds you alot of John Carpenter's The Thing, but this film was terrific. I had alot of fun watching it and the film was good itself. It starts off with 2 cops transporting Jack(Bruce Campbell) to get the electric chair. On the way, they crash and have to take shelter due to the giant snow storm that is happening. At a airport, the pilot tells the customers that she can't take off because of the storm. Jack is brought inside and is handcuffed to a pipe in the men's room. One of the patrons was already inside and he turns into a alien. It ends up Jack breaks free and kills the alien but not before the alien kills the 2 officers.
Jack runs out and holds up the people and the film goes from there. The directing was very well done, and the acting is pretty good to. Besides, it stars BRUCE CAMPBELL! I mean come on! How can you go wrong?
I say, if you liked the Thing and really want to see a good movie, see Terminal Invasion. My only question is...WHERES THE SEQUEL!?!?
From Dusk Till Dawn (2001)
What a waste
Ok this game was a game that never should have been made in the first place. The mere thought of the plot for this is ridiculous, and the graphics are so crappy that it hurts ones eyes just to watch it. Also, Seth has never sounded so gay in his life. There was a reason Clooney only did one of these, and they should have stayed with it. Why not make a game out of the first film??? THE ONLY GOOD ONE!?!?! I give this game a 1 out of 10. The sound is bad, the enemies are moronic and the graphics are so bad, that every character has a line through there the middle of the face. Also, why the hell did it take this thing so long to come out??? This is something I would expect from Playstation not the PC.
This is Marcus saying keep away from this travesty of the PC.
