Same Same...
31 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Can this guy act (Jason Statham)? He is always exactly the same. When you know he is in a movie, you know exactly what to expect. It is like watching the same movie over and over again. He is nothing else than a Steven Seagal or Jean Claude Van Damme. If you recall, their first movie is always pretty good but you get tired of the same scenario which only provides excuses for (I have to admit) pretty good but similar fighting scenes, and very little more.

What I dislike the most from these "actors"(?) is that they refuse to get in their role in order to maintain their pathetic personality. On this particular movie, Statham goes to a policemen's funeral dress in his street clothes. Who does that? At a police funeral, everyone wear their uniform, period. But that was probably too much asking to Mr Statham. Also, have a look at his unshaven face and how many movies have you seen it like this before? This reminds me of Seagal who was wearing his pony tale with a military uniform in one of his previous film; "hey I will make you the honour of being the star of that movie but don't expect me to change my appearance"! On this particular movie, I thought it was pretty predictable. No surprise here. Who needs a scenario when you have this great fighter? Isn't that enough? Moreover, this stupid heavy metal they add on the action scenes. Annoying, loud as h..., and has really nothing to do with the scene except to make you lose your concentration and lower the volume (where you can...).

I was expecting (hoping?) for much more. This is the last movie I watch with this guy in, unless he is a real low secondary actor in it (which he should always be). This guy belongs in a ring, not in a movie.

Now, pls don't give Jason my address. One thing he could do is kick my a... I can run, but if he can run like he did in that movie without even breathing hard, I am done!

Just go with it

If you are looking for a highly intellectual movie, forget it. This is a simple movie with a simple story line and simple jokes. However, if you like to go to the movies just to break the routine, to have some laughs, and to change your mind, this is an excellent movie. Most highly critical people looking for perfection will give this movie a bad review, no doubt. People who gave an 8 to True Grit will not appreciate this movie...

Acting is excellent. Jennifer Aniston is perfect in that role; this is her best performance in a movie so far, except maybe for Marley and Me. Adam Sandler is much more natural than usual. He does not have to deliver all of the stupid jokes, and has a to act his role during most of the movie. I would say this is an equivalent performance as in 50 First Dates, or even better. He is very funny (as usual), but also compassionate and lovable. Nick Swardson is the clown of the movie, which allows Sandler to act more and leave some of the funny stuff to others. Swardson made me and my whole family laugh out loud during many parts of the movie. In fact, it had been a long time since I heard my two teenagers laugh so much and so loudly during a movie.

The two kids are really good supporting actors. They bring a lot to the movie. They make the situation more complicated a few times in unexpected ways. Bailee Madison is very impressive. We will see her again and often.

The normal cast of Happy Madisson movies are all there for their usual 2 minutes and all bring their own laugh. One of them made me swallow water in my lungs! He is good! I will let you guess which one.

All and all, we left very satisfied and happy we had this family night, even the teenagers. No frustration like we had in True Grit and no disappointment like we had in Sanctum. This was better than expected and worth its money. Just sit down and "Go with it!".

Poor quality drama that had potential
5 February 2011
Forced acting. Unnatural.

Potential for real time drama IF the ingredients had been there (see Black Swan, which succeeded so well at making you feel the emotions of the main actress).

However, for Sanctum, poor directing, poor acting, etc... You don't connect with the actors.

Also, 3D should really be kept for cartoons. It makes every movie look like a cartoon with added objects in the middle of the screen.

In this movie, the 3D effects came to remind you that you were in fact watching a movie... Made it impossible to get into the movie and enjoy it.

Some sites list this as an horror movie. My wife almost stopped us from going to see it because she read it was an horror movie... Please... For those who are looking to see horror movies, don't bother. There is no horror in this movie unless you are (1) afraid of heights or (2) afraid of water...

By the way, theatre was full, probably because it was from James Cameron. You are losing major ponts on this one James... Please don't put Titanic and Avatar on the advertisement... unless you just want to cash in a bit more on these two masterpieces!
