Silent Hill (2006)
7/10
This is the first time the following statement makes sense...
21 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
"One of the best films this year is a video-game movie!"

Silent Hill is the FIRST good movie based on a video game, it's not only good, it's great! The sets are done perfectly to match the ares from the games. The story is believable in the Silent Hill world and it works great in the movie world. All of the acting is done well except for Sean bean's character. The monsters (when there were any) looked great but they were sectioned off into scenes like the slither-man scene, the bug scene, the roach-men scene, etc., and the nurse scene reminded me a lot of a Marylin Manson video but they made the nurses ultra hot in a way only the Silent Hill people can make them. The soundtrack is from the same guy who does it for the games so you know it's good, they even play the intro song for the first game during the Tristar logo. The mood was set perfectly just like in the games with the fog, ash, etc. and they even gave it the grainy look from the games too. There are a few really good surprises in the film, the only one i'll give away though is that the nurse from the first game makes a small appearance.

Now, instead of kissing it's ass all the way, i'll note the substandard parts. Sean Bean's character was only added into the script because the company didn't like the fact that the movie was all female, and it shows. During the unraveling of the history of the town, it kind of looses a little steam because they had a "Crucible" thing going and it seemed like a different story altogether. There was only one cheesy scene (Rose walking through the townspeople to get to Christabella).

I give the movie an 8/10 and will own it when it comes out on DVD.

The Uninvited (1944)

one of the very few movies to ever give me the creeps
2 March 2006
A few years ago, I found this movie on DVD on ebay and I bought it from there. I remember watching it as a kid and having it scare the hell out of me even during the middle of the day. When I got the movie in the mail, I watched it that very night and it still gave me the creeps. The movie lives up to it's hype because of the great atmosphere set up in the spooky old house and the storyline that flows along with the ghastly mists in the place. The filming style for it's time is excellent and the special effects are amazing although don't occur too often. Among all my zombie, ghost, serial killer, etc. movies I have, this classic is still the creepiest movie by far. I give this movie a 9/10, the only thing that brought the score down was the inclusion of some cheesy and ambiguous dialog that could've been fixed up.

Capcom must've seen this flick while making Resident Evil.
18 October 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I bought this movie from a video store that was going out of business and the cover caught my eye, plus reading the very brief and cheesy back sold me into buying it. This is a good movie, it is a little cheesy but I must say, I think the Video Game company, Capcom, saw this movie and heavily used parts of this for the game Resident Evil. For example; replace Albert Wesker from R.E. with Barry Bostwick, the Tyrant with a metal werewolf and keep the main characters pretty much the same. The way Barry Bostwick dies is the same way Albert dies and the same for the werewolf dying just like the Tyrant. The story simply goes like this; in 1974, the US military goes into the Carpathian forest to find a werewolf to get it's blood and use it's DNA to create the ultimate biological weapon(like Resident Evil again)but one of the men gets too cocky and takes the blood himself and all hell breaks loose (close enough to RE to mention it again). Barry Bostwick manages to take down and put the cocky werewolf guy in deep freeze until 20 years later when technology has advanced enough to resume the project. Of course, the werewolf gets loose again and causes havoc again or else there wouldn't be a movie. It was entertaining and had some really good special effects. 7/10

Direct Action (2004)
3/10
you know it's bad from the beginning
25 September 2005
You know an action movie is going to be horrible if the soundtrack mainly consists of rap. This movie starts off with rap and has it playing through most of the movie, it's unbearable and really brought down my vote. While watching the opening credits, along with the rap soundtrack, you get treated to all the fighting scenes in the movie so before the movie even starts you've seen pretty much all of the action which is what's supposed to draw you into this movie. While the angle of looking at a drivers face through the rear view isn't a bad shot to use, the director really overdoes the shot by using it every time someone is in a car and more than once each time. The story is decent but nothing special and isn't strong enough to keep you through all the crap. It's too bad Dolph had done this movie, he wants to keep a low profile in the movie industry but this is the absolute wrong way to do it.

one of the better comics adapted to movies
6 August 2005
This movie was great. It had the Lobo character done perfectly. This short movie is based on the comic book of the same name, basically, the Easter Bunny has had enough with Santa Claus and Christmas, so he hires Lobo to kill Santa Claus. This movie would've gotten a 10/10 except for 2 things. first of all, it's too short. The movie is only 13 minutes long. I know it's not the directors fault, I just wish the comic was a whole lot longer so the movie would be a whole lot longer. Second, there's some rap-rock crap played at the end and during the credits of the movie. other than those nit-pickings, this movie shows how comics adapted to movies should be done.

good movie, lots of fun
21 October 2003
Warning: Spoilers
i just saw this movie expecting it to really blow from reviews i've heard all around, but i saw it anyway getting the free chance. i must say, the movie was actually good. i would say it's more of an action comedy than an action horror. it also has quite a few references to the ALIEN series, freeman even says so about the red rash. SPOILER i'm not sure if it was intended but even the fact that there's a character who's nick name is joansie is immune to the alien is a reference. one bad thing about the movie is there is no resolution. the climax occurs and then 3 seconds later the credits are rolling.

great movie.
8 September 2003
this movie was totally funny. those who didn't like it either don't appreciate the type of humor or they were teenie boppers expecting another useless american pie movie. this movie is defenitely not a teen movie, there's no one in the movie under 21, it takes place in college, there's none of the stupid teen movie stereotypes in it either. this is a real movie about 3 college dudes getting kicked out of thier frat house cause they were framed for stealing money, so they must dress up like girls to get back in and get evidence. of course some of the stuff is completely off and jerky, it's supposed to be like that. it's a funny movie. at least 8/10

worse than the original but killer music
16 August 2003
this night of the demons was a silly movie to watch, the end shows that most of the movie is pointless considering that the nun can come back to life. it's defenitely not as good as the original but it does have a really good scene. the party scene when the kids change the music to 2 Morbid Angel songs from the Covenant album; Rapture and Vengeance Is Mine. it's sure to make a good few seconds of headbanging bliss, insert demonic laughter.

great movie
28 June 2003
i jsut saw this movie a few hours ago and i must say it's totally great. the storyline was excellent. i wouldn't consider this a zombie movie though, it just so happens to have zombies in it. it's more of a post apocolyptic(maybe) survival movie.

Zombie (1979)

geat zombie movie
8 June 2003
one of the best zombie movies ever. it keeps the zombiew rules intact, none of them run around or hollar or go crazy. they act as they should, re-animated corpses only seeking food. the acting is not the greatest but that's because all the actors weren't even really talking to eachother considering they spoke different languages and it was dubbed over for whatever language it was gonna be released in. this movie has some of the greatest special effects in it too, like the zombie and the shark fight. also, the theme song is perfect.

nothing worth naming a music band after
29 May 2003
i got a bela lugosi triple feature dvd, and one of the movies was this one. it's an alright movie, i guess people in their 80's today would still love this movie cause it's got that same love story deal thing every movie had back then, but people of later generations most likely will not like it as much. it is a good movie and even though it's 70 years old, nothing has been done like it since. it's just a little lacking in the interest area. i mean, like i can see people enjoying this movie as much as me but i can't really see anyone enjoying this movie to such a degree as to name a famous musical band after it.

great movie although it's nothing like Long Beach
27 May 2003
great movie about what a father goes through to save his sun because he's a suspected cop killer. it's based on a true story. it's a damn fine movie the only problem is Long Beach looks nothing like what they used in the movie. in the movie they filmed in asbury park, NJ. Long Beach, NY in quite the opposite of there, it's like the Las Vegas on Long Island, with many clubs, the nice beach, lotsa tourist stuff to do, etc.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre + American Gothic + Natural Born Killers
21 April 2003
This was a really great movie. Basically, it's Texas Chainsaw Massacre plus American Gothic plus Natural Born Killers. So just from that description you should be able to figure out it's a cult movie. When you see it, you know Rob Zombie made this movie just to give a freaking huge "F U" to the mainstream movie watchers and people who love those horribly crappy tennie bopper slasher flicks, ex. scream, i know what you did last summer, final destination.

must see for fans of fear and loathing in las vegas
21 April 2003
anyone who is a fan of fear and loathing in las vegas must see this movie. it's about the same man, except he's played by bill murray instead of johnny depp. it's defenitely not as good as fear and loathing due to lack of effects and so forth but it helps with the whole storyline of hunter s. thompson.

zip through this one
21 April 2003
when i saw this movie, i was really bored. it coulda been alot better. it seems like this movie was made just to shock the audience by putting as much gay and disgusting fetish stuff as they can in there. it's worth only one watch, after that, you'll wanna pass the tae along to a friend to watch it and the cycle carries on from there.

cannibal corpse is in it
11 August 2002
this is a funny movie but it does die off after multiple viewings. of course the best part of this movie for fans of Death Metal is the part that Cannibal Corpse is in it. They sing their signature song"Hammer Smashed Face" with their original vocalist. the song is cut up a little bit but not too bad.
