Very good film from start to finish.
1 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Great film from start to finish. This was an outstanding sequel to the original which fits very well. Good story and good connection with backstory. No special interest agendas other than overt pro US Navy theme. Thanks to all US service men and women. Very refreshing and devoid of controversial topics allowing one to truly get lost in the film. There was one aspect of the mission in the film that could be considered reminiscent of the original Star Wars plot. I don't know if that was intentional or coincidence, but I was a little put off by it; otherwise, I would have given it 10 stars.

Well acted and interesting plot, but I kept wondering, what's the point of this movie.

Not Impressed
22 April 2014
I don't see what all the hype is about. I went into this film with no expectations: --Didn't have a clue what it was about. --Hadn't seen any trailers. --Heard it was a fast paced satirical comedy.

Really I felt this movie was pointless. Half way through the film I kept wishing I had gone to see something else. I chuckled a few times, but overall I was bored. It didn't draw me in. I wasn't emotionally involved in the story.

Perhaps the fanfare with all the celebrity appearances is what had a particularly nice appeal to others, but I am not impressed with celebrity faces.

This is the first time that a film that scored a high IMDb rating has disappointed me. I am puzzled at the disparity.

I cannot recommend this film. I thought it was a waste of my time and money.

The Thing (I) (2011)

Great flick - intense
14 October 2011
I have been waiting for a great monster flick. This IS a GREAT monster flick. It's an intense sci-fi movie. It fits like a LEGO with the 1980's version. I can't believe how well it fits. It adds back-story and enriches "The Thing" legend. The actors were all well cast and did a fine job. As far as the story goes, the beginning of the story seemed a little too much like the first "Alien Vs. Predator" movie. Once I got over that, I really enjoyed the flick. Lots of intense scenes. Good story with lots of variation from the 1980's version. This is not a re-hashed repeat. Great special effects leveraging all of today's technology, but not overdone. I am a skeptic and thought it would be hard to pull off another version of this. This is not a remake. This is an addition to the story. Highly recommended. I would call it a "must see."

Predators (2010)

Best Predator sequel yet
9 July 2010
Finally, FINALLY! A great Predator movie with an interesting story. This is possibly the best of the Predator movies if not neck and neck with first one. Great plot with complex details. Great location with a fresh feel. Suspenseful and interesting through and through. Great cast with notable actors. This is a welcome change from the unknowns of the last several movies. Not predictable; however, you really need to have seen the very first Predator movie at a minimum to appreciate this one as this one is most-like a sequel to the first one. No sex in this movie. Violence is somewhat intense but this is not nearly as gory as some other R-rated movies like Ninja Assassin for example. Profanity is there with numerous F-bombs. This is DEFINITELY worth seeing at least once on the big screen. Definitely a Bluray purchase when it comes out. Highly recommended. Very well done. Finally.

Like a really long "You Tube" video
16 October 2009
This is NOT a professional movie. The poor camera work gave me motion sickness. This movie was styled after "The Blair Witch Project." I know it's supposed to be part of the "genre," but really. I was disappointed and felt it was NOT worth the money I paid. I would watch it on the Internet, or, maybe a DVD, but it's not worth paying today's movie theater rates.

The plot was great. The story was great. The acting was OK. The lead woman actress did a great acting job. The other acting in the movie was just so-so. The movie is very suspenseful. If you can get over the bouncing camera shots and rapid panning. You might like it.

Star Trek (2009)

Great!

This is a real winner! The magic is back! Great re-emergence of a proud franchise. Don't screw it up Paramount.

Congratulations to the casting team. The actors were fabulous. The plot was good; nothing special there. Music and effects were excellent. Makeup was excellent. Most realistic makeup effects I have ever seen. The writing was superb. The essence of the characters has been carefully captured. The fun of the original characters is there. Some surprises, but nearly everything makes sense and works. Nice back-story to numerous characters in the original Star Trek lore. Can't wait for the next installment.

This movie was totally disappointing!
6 August 2003
I expected the same type humor and fun, with the reality we all remember from high school. This time to take the same people, older, still finding themselves could have been great. The fact they never mentioned what happened to the other friends left you feeling left out of the loop somehow. And enough of the Stiffmister, he was great in the first two movies but way over the top and unbelieveable in this one. Can't imagine a 4th in this series, there is no where to go now but further down hill.

It's about time!
2 July 2003
This movie is precariously balanced between being a hit and being a flop. Here's why; its a good story, with great special effects, however, it lacks significant new intrique. The movie has also come on the scene late. The Terminator audience may have lost contact. Although, I didn't. If you enjoyed the prior two movies, you should enjoy this one as well. I don't know; however, if you need to see it more than once. I am debating on seeing it again.

Entertaining, Puzzling, Mysterious, Awesome, Thrilling
14 May 2003
This film is superb. It rivals the first in its ability to amaze. Incredible fight scenes. Cinematic fudge; rich and smooth and delicious. Marvelous audio feast also. A good workout of the sound system. This film pushes audio technology to the limit. Engrossing plot. Deep thinking. Buy more than one ticket. You will need to see it several times to take it all in and to meditate on the plot.

Brown Sugar (2002)
7/10
Husband and Wife dual review.
3 November 2002
Husband's comments follow: This was a good flick. Parts of the hip-hop story may be a little hard to follow if you're not a long time rap fan. Other than that, this is a top quality flick. Funny, romantic comedy. Some really hilarious parts. All around great. Somewhat similar to "When Harry Met Sally".

Wife's comments follow: "Harry Met Sally"? No way, not enough story of the two main characters. What story there was of these two was pretty entertaining. I was not as into all the background on hip-hop, although I did see the reason for exploring it, just not to that extent. I felt it was a documentary at some points in the movie.

Signs (2002)
7/10
Generally a good flick. Must see at cinema.
4 August 2002
This movie is appropriately titled, but the title does not mean what you think it means. The title is focused more on signs in the religious sense. Crop signs are just a tool that the director uses in the movie to tell the story which focuses on the main character portrayed by Mel Gibson. I thought all the actors did a good job. The movie generates a good deal of suspense and tension with humor intermixed at the appropriate times. The story was good but a little tough to believe in some parts. You have to see it in a real cinema to get the most out of the suspense. Although this movie was good, I would not see it more than once.
