Batman Forever (1995)
begging and the end
this was a midway point for the Batman series. Fortunately Tim Burton was still on hand so Schumacher didn't make a TOTAL shambles of Gotham (2 years later thought he'd do just that). This was the end of the Batman series that Burton had started the way it should have been done. The villains were ok. I wish Tommy Lee Jones had gotten to do a little more as TwoFace and Jim Carrey got just a LITTLE irritating. Val Kilmer was alright in the role, not quite as good as Keaton but Keaton's adventures were just plain better. Not too bad a way to bring Robin in and SO much better than the last Robin we had (Burt Ward's preposterous character in the 60s). Lemme see, like i said this had a few warning signs of the disaster we would see two years later but we still had no idea of what was coming. By the way, Batman has what is my fav. Bat-love interest in this one but that's mainly because i've always been a fan of the ravishing Nicole Kidman. All around, it's a more than adequate action adventure and thanks to Burton still is fairly faithful to the "real" Batman of the comics.
thanks,
Matt.
An American Tail: Fievel Goes West (1991)
sweet but sad
For what it is this is a sweet little film. A decent sequel to a rare non-Disney animated masterpiece (which i still think the first film was). i love the idea of Fievel's next adventure taking him out west. And so many cute things to enjoy here. The villain and the Dom Deluise character especially, along with the inclusion of the performance of "Rawhide" from the Blues Brothers movie. Alas, the sad part of this movie....this was our last movie with Mr. James Stewart and sadly we didn't even get to see, only hear, the original "everyman." Even though he didn't start out in westerns (he turned to the genre to save his fledgling career in the early '50s) by the time this film was made he was a Western icon alongside Clint Eastwood or Glenn Ford (and not far behind the Duke).
Spy Game (2001)
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Ok i'll give credit where it's due. OCCASIONALLY Redford gives us a film not only intelligent but also (gasp) ENTERTAINING. This, however, is not such a film. Sneakers (which was wrongfully ignored), Butch Cassidy, the Sting, The Electric Horseman, and The Last Castle are among his entertaining yet still quality films. Although this film may depict the real-life goings on of the spy world, for those of us who, since 1962, have been treated to a very different type of spy, and this bye the way covers most if not all of the moviegoing public, when we see spy we expect a solid story yes, but with action and intrigue. This film, for the most part, had all the event and suspense of a Bill Clinton speech. BLECHH!
The Curse of Dracula (1979)
strange
I saw this years ago on a rainy Saturday afternoon on the Scifi channel. Not the best 70s vampire film (that goes in my book to either the first Count Yorga film or the '79 Dracula with Frank Langella) but this one is fun enough (perfect for a free viewing i don't know if i'd rent it or not). and let's face it, some things aren't even worth watching for free. i'm not familiar with the guy who played Dracula in this but from my vague memory of it he did a pretty decent job. SPOILER MAYBE....the battle scene in the barn with the fire did stick in my memory so it must have been pretty good.
Solaris (2002)
sorry about this one
a lot of people i'm sorry to for this film....
1. George Clooney...i'm sorry....all of your films i've been more than cool with even your Batman film (that wasn't your fault that was Schumacher) but Dr. Ross tell us please...was it the good fortune from your last 2 Soderbergh films that seduced you into this film?...you gave a fine performance but yours is one of the ONLY redeeming virtues of this turkey
2. fans of the 1972 film....maybe that one was good i don't know never saw it and probably never will....but if your looking for a good experience again....DON'T LOOK HERE
and i am MOST MOST MOST sorry to
Corey Feldman
because i thought that was you Mr. Feldman in the role of Snow and i was doubting your skills....Mr. Davies PLEASE stray from this type of performance/role..i'm not familiar with your other work obviously if i confused you with our beloved Mr. Feldman but THAT SUCKED!
also sorry if i offended anyone who DID like this movie..but i was sorely disappointed.
later.
Thwarted (1991)
Goodbye Lana
this is her last credited performance....and a "Shadow" film..interesting way to go out. This isn't near the par of her films of the past.....like "Peyton Place" and "Imitation of Life"...but there have been MANY WORSE farewell films.
For Your Eyes Only (1981)
goodbye to the real M
SPOILER!
The only flaw in "For Your Eyes Only" and it simply couldn't be avoided......No M. Bernard Lee (who is the one true "M") died shortly before production began on this Bond adventure. Sadly, his last Bond was "Moonraker"....GAG...which this one easily surpassed. However, not having an M at all was better than the "replacement" M we had from "Octopussy" to "License to Kill"......and YEARS LEAPS AND BOUNDS better than that bi%$h Judi Dench from the Brosnan adventures...which is bye the way the ONLY aspect of the Brosnan films i hate. Nevertheless, enjoy this down to earth, solidly watchable Bond adventure from the 3rd greatest Bond of them all....Roger Moore!
P.S. if your wondering about the rest of my choices Lazenby was decent in his solo adventure (4th best) and since there's only 5 I have to give 5th to Dalton (puke).
later,
W.
The Dukes of Hazzard 2: Daisy Dukes It Out (2000)
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh! no just kidding no comment here. just that i posted a Friday After Next review and yes i warned of spoilers and i think i got ignored.
i used this cuz the Dukes was in my opinion the BEST SHOW EVER! and the 2 games were the best they could be. thanks!
Duets (2000)
Sweet Surprise
Lot's of good surprises in this movie. For one thing Huey's more than adequate acting. I'd only seen him in one other film (his now semi-legendary appearance in the 80s classic "Back to the Future") and i was impressed with his starring effort here. I also was blown away by one of the many funny lines and even though one in particular might be offensive it was such a surprise that a female character would say this...i can't write it here kids might be reading but Maria Bello's character after Scott Speedman's character gets his taxi painted " we don't have any money, but i'd consider it an honor and a privilege to......" if you've seen it you know. I'm glad i didn't pay high theater rates for it it wasn't THAT good but it's definitely worth a rental and MORE than worth your time on TV. enjoy!
The Rescuers Down Under (1990)
CARTOON INDIANA JONES
seriously. this is like Indy kiddie-fied. nothing against Dr. Jones by any means i've worn those 3 out over and over again. but this is one the best SEQUELS of any kind ever. it so outdoes the original it isn't even funny. plus this is the 1st Disney movie that was ever bought for me at the tender age of 10 ( a milestone in it's own right) one of the best voice casting jobs ever! Newhart and Gabor are top notch just as they were 13 years earlier. George C. Scott is the cartoon villain dreams are made of. and the true highlight along with the character of Frank is the late, great John Candy. i adore the work of this man even today some 8 or 9 years since his passing and he was hilarious as always in this one. watch it! i hadn't watched it in years it set in the closet shelf collecting dust but if you have it break it out of wherever you've hid it and enjoy it again.
thanks!
Spacecats (1991)
OH MY GOD! i'd forgotten this show!
somehow through my imdb hopping i got connected to SpaceCats. i don't remember much about it though i was only 11 when it was on. but i DO remember watching it EVERY Saturday without a doubt. it was mostly animated with some SpaceCat puppets in between (the puppets reminded me a lot of the HORRIBLE ALF! yes, i know we all watched ALF back in the 80s but looking back now i can't tell you why. anyway, this was a cute cartoon and i hope maybe it'll pop up from the vaults of the Cartoon Network like it has done with other lost treasures. THANKS for taking the time to read this!
