I have set up this account to rate all the movies I have ripped and bought to help other people to choose in buying or watching movies.
I don't know much about updates yet, but I guess I can and I will update many releases with AKA infos and maybe with DVD-cover scans.
I live in Budapest, Hungary.
Reviews
The Event (2010)
Tricky plot, but sadly unfinished due to NBC Channel :/
I really do enjoyed the flashbacks which helped to put the puzzle together in the first few episodes. My girlfriend said it's too complicated, but it's obviously not overcomplicated. You just have to watch it carefully to not miss a second from the plot.
I strongly hope that the writer of the series will find a new home for this title, because people all over the world try to claim for the 2nd season. In Hungary, there is a phrase for it: "Pénz beszél, kutya ugat." translated= "Money talks, dogs are barking." It means, only profit matters :(
This title obviously has a great potential in the story, I'm sad that I can't see it finished. There are many open questions, like who are the protectors (group of protective angels)?, or how the new breed managed to live on the earth first before us!?, is truly the president's wife a new breed?, etc. Interesting to say at least and last :)
I wanted to say some about the casting: The actors are great, honestly, mostly all of them. My personal favourites are Mr. Lee (gov. agent) and Blake (the director of the CIA) as it's absolutely awesome to see, how their character evolve during the episodes.
No Retreat, No Surrender 3: Blood Brothers (1990)
Weakeast sequel ever.
I'm going to write a short review, as this title does not worth more than few lines...
The plot is simply primitive. I can't be more positive about it. Though the close combat fights are choreographed pretty well, the whole movie is a joke. The directing is so bad that it hurts me.
Just an example: in the final scene, when the terrorists are trying to take down the president the Alexander brothers come to save the day. Casey has a broken wrist and his wrist is in a plaster. This fact does not set him back to fight and use that wounded fist. While his young brother, Will got a shot into his shoulder and then Will is fighting with a wide smile on his face with his shot shoulder... Even Will is hanging on at the back of the escaping car with his overshot arm/shoulder.
In another scene at the hangar, where Casey and his girlfriend was kept as prisoners, the terrorists were shooting at them from 5-10 meters distance with automatic guns/UZIs. Of course, no bullets reached the main actor...
These were only 2 ridiculous scenes from the movie. The whole movie is full of this kind of badly directed scenes.
I'm deeply sorry to say it, after watching the No Retreat, No Surrender 2, but this follow-up was the worst I have seen so far. (I'm 26 at the time, when writing this review.)
The only reason why I gave this title 2 out of 10 is the fact that Loren Avedon is funny and incredibly cool when fighting and the fighting scenes are good and entertaining.
No Retreat, No Surrender 2: Raging Thunder (1987)
Zero acting, great action parts!
To be honest, I expected awful production here, but what I got was much better.
The acting is zero, don't expect any believable emotions or anger, however the characters (their skills, their knowledge) are somewhat better than usual. I'm always embarrassed by the fact that always USA guy(s) save(s) the day in this kind of action movie, no matter if the story is located in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, India or China.
The action choreography is simply great. When I watched Ong-Bak few years back, that was a non-plus-ultra in melee action for me. If you consider that this movie is 22 years old now, you have to admit that they did a great job with the melee action scenes.
Sadly, the gunfighting parts are somewhere between ridiculous and hilarious. When a hand-grenade is exploding in 1 second, while a same grenade is exploding in 10 seconds in another place/scene (of course, just right there, when the bad guys come...) I had to wipe my tears off my face! Don't forget the scene with the machine guns set up in the brae of the 'russian' camp. The machine guns are firing close to blindly and the rate of successful kills are pretty high there.
And the final scene, when Scott Wylde drags the bad guy with the stolen army-jeep and slides him into the pool of crocodiles, that was non-sense: the bad Russian guy is pulling the jeep into the pool with his bare hands. OK, I say, let it be, I can take it; then Scott is coming with a rifle, shoots the jeep... The jeep explodes, but Scott lies to the ground only 3 seconds after the explosion! :)
If you can accept the fact that these scenes are ridiculous, you will love this movie as I did, because the melee fighting actions will compensate any of your losses.
District 9 (2009)
Disappointment of the year...
Well, I have seen the IMDb rating and the hype before I've seen this "movie". I overrated the movie before even seen it. I only decided to write a review, because only hypes can be read here, as reviews that lack of any objectivity.
Luckily I could watch this show for free, before the Hungarian premier. I'm grateful for the guy, who provided me the free ticket for this show, because after this movie, I became very disappointed.
Well, to be honest, the plot started genuine! Finally a scene outside USA or Europe... South-Africa brings us a bit variety. The idea, that an alien ship is coming not to invade the Earth, but because they are starving and waiting to become dead on their ship: that was awesome! And the final action part was spectacular. And that's all the good part of the movie.
Aliens are making alien weapons in the ghetto secretly, but paying unbelievably much "money" to get cat-food. They could even claim the food by their alien-weapons, but no. I laughed my stomach out of me... Who's idea was the cat-food anyways? The aliens could run over everything and everybody (due to their numbers), but they still lived in the ghetto after long years. At the end of the movie, our so-called hero slowly transformed/mutated into an alien...
Well, if this is the movie of the year for such many people... maybe I was born into a wrong century.
Equilibrium (2002)
Matrix-killer action-choreography
A dark world, where 1 man control everything... nice base of a promising story. Christian Bale & Taye Diggs are both good choices for the leading roles of this movie.
The story actually starts with the scene, where John Preston executes in cold blood his partner Errol Partridge (because of breaking the law!). Shocking storyline, where you will not be able to gather too much information about the world, but it's not so important!
If you watch this movie, you can be sure, that you will not be bored. The action-choreography is unbelievably great, stunning fights, John Preston, the Grammaton Priest saves the rebels' causes: to break the power of the "Father" in a world, where feeling is against of the law. Where arts and music are crime.
Outstanding movie!
Driven (2001)
It's a story about good persons
This title is not one of my favourites, but I really like it.
I enjoyed it, because the story is about the persons involved with car racing and not about the car racing itself! Every person in the movie is actually good, they just need to discover their own potentials. This kind of movie is very rare, when you see no bad persons. Movies mostly about good and bad. Razzie Awards gave many awards for this movie as worst supporting actor, etc. but don't believe 'Razzie Awards'! This movie is not bad at all. Really worth the time you can spend with watching it.
What I didn't like about this movie: the hilarious car chasing in the midtown.... they run the car with approx. 200 km/h without a helmet... They ruin the midtown without any serious consequence. And the directing is poor, I have to admit.
