Senior Year (2022)
Satire on life in the third decade of the 21st century
This movie isn't hysterically funny from start to finish but there's enough laughs to keep you watching.
As expected Rebel Wilson carries the film with her energy and comic timing. It also shines a light on modern society and it's obsession with social media and just how healthy that is. Overall I found it quite watchable but not something I would want to view again and again.
American Ripper (2017)
Fun and Interesting viewing but no solid evidence
I really enjoyed this look back at the exploits of H H Holmes. Quite incredible how he got away with his crimes for so long. As for him being Jack the Ripper though, the evidence just wasn't there. Amarylis Fox sums it up well in pointing out that they were unable to rule him out either.
It does look to me as though they were tenuously trying to cling to their theory at times. That some of the circumstantial evidence, such as Holmes having a photo that looked slightly like a ripper victim and that the 'dear boss' letter had words that were used slightly more by Americans than Brits at the time was a bit desperate. Enjoyable show but no real evidence I'm afraid.
Saw II (2005)
Somehow, even worse than I expected!
I ended up watching this cinematic 'classic' because there was literally no other films on TV at the time. I've got to confess that I wasn't expecting too much from it, having seen numerous trailers for this franchise over the years, but I thought that maybe it will surprise me and not be as dire as I feared. However I was badly mistaken! As I didn't find myself really caring if any of the characters lived or died at no point was there any real tension in the movie. This may not have been purely the fault of the cast but possibly a combination of a poor cast, bad director, shocking script. The soundtrack is also terrible and seemingly constant, even when nothing is really happening.
I will give some credit to Franky G who played Xavier Chavez, he gave an excellent audition for Shaun of the Dead 2, by spending most of film wandering around like a zombie with a knife in his hand and a glazed look on his face.
To sum this up, it is a very poor film and a terrible advertisement for modern Hollywood horror. Some teenagers who haven't seen many films yet may like this nonsense but I doubt many others would do. If you value you free time, AVOID!
Let Him Have It (1991)
The best argument against the death penalty
A better argument against the death penalty you will not see. A shameful episode in the recent history of Great Britain. Anyone who wants the return of the death penalty in this country should take the time to watch this film.
Some of the acting performances in this film are truly immense. The film-makers do a great job in recreating the dark gloomy streets of 1950's London. Having watched this film it is hard to see why the two young actors in the lead roles never went on to star in many more motion pictures. To summarise there are no real weaknesses in the telling of this tragic tale, I Would recommend this film to all who want to watch a powerful emotional story.
