The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)
Near perfect
I watched this movie 4 years ago on HBO i think, i didn't pay much attention, but when accidentally stumbled upon its DVD i checked it out.The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is an interesting movie with interesting characters. Lots of familiar characters mixed in together with a cast fitting like a glove. Sean Connery, like always puts on a performance and the rest keep up with him. I haven't read the graphic novel, but the story written for the movie is quite charming.
Allan Quatermain is an old hero of England residing in Africa, when her majesty's agent comes seeking his help, asking him to lead a group of "talented" individuals against a man trying to start a world war to make profits from selling guns. The individuals include a vampire, an immortal man, an invisible man, Dr Jekyl/Mr Hyde and a man known as Captain Nemo.
The first half of the movie consist of character introduction and development. The second half is an action packed thriller. If you so much as "like" Sean Connery you should see this last performance, if you are a fan of the genre, you should definitely see this movie.
Enjoy.
Max Payne (2008)
Mark Wahlberg is Max Payne
I don't whose idea was to change the story of the games but i can understand. They wanted a short story that non-Max Payne fans could relate to...but butchering an incredible story mixing up characters is bad for business if you are planning a sequel.
As a fan off action movies i liked this movie, it had everything in order, a good story good characters and good acting(except the female lead Mila Kunis). As a die-hard Max Payne fan i'm outraged. I played and finished the games maybe a dozen times, and i finished'em again a month ago so i would remember the story accurately before watching the movie version. As a Max Payne fan i know the characters have been slaughtered...Mona Sax was the coolest chick in any game up to this date giving her such lines and making MEG GRIFFIN deliver them was a grave mistake, getting a minor character like BB Hensley and making him important was another mistake. Beau Bridges is an excellent actor but there is no place for him in this story...not in original charactered version. I have many other comments about other characters namely Jim Bravura and Alex but since the story was changed dramatically i don't know how else they could be casted...As for the lack of Vinnie Goggnitti ,Alfred Woden and Vladimir Lem's presence i have nothing to say...but if you ask any Max Payne fan they would probably name Vlad to be one of the best characters in games.
Finally i would like to add that i cannot imagine a better actor for the job of Max Payne than Mark Wahlberg, he was really good.
I would like to wrap-up my ideas now, since it looks like gibberish know that i read it, but it reflects everything i wanted to say about this movie. If you are looking for a good action movie, don't miss it...but if you are a Max Payne fan who played the games as if they were movies you are going to be disappointed.
Babylon A.D. (2008)
I want my money back...
It is a sad day for me, because for the first time i don't like a movie Vin Diesel stars in. I'm actually fan of the guy if you can believe it...due to his "action movies star" status. But this movie can not be liked.Director of the movie was quoted saying "It's pure violence and stupidity," i don't think you need anyone else to tell you anything but here we go anyway. Babylon A.D is an empty shell. No story, no acting, no dialogues, no script pure violence, its a piece of junk thats what this movie is...i gave it two stars because of Vin Diesel, not for his performance or anything for his name. I think the producers and the studio should be ashamed of themselves for butchering a possible hit like this. Don't watch this movie, if you have no other alternatives go take a nap...it is a much better way to spend ninety minutes.
The Dark Knight (2008)
A true Masterpiece
There are movies that everyone should see...
like Shawshank Redemption, the Matrix...or the Lotr: Return of the King...having watched all previous Batman movies i couldn't say it for any of them...(yes even Batman:Begins) but Dark Knight has changed it.
It took a superhero, who was the only serious thing in its universe and recreated that universe to fit the superhero...it began with the Begins...but i thinks it is safe to say that no one expected the change to be this swift...
Christopher Nolan is a true genius for creating a Batman that everyone could like and a movie that everyone should watch.
Finally i would like to add that acting on this movie was absolutely delicious...Morgan Freeman and Micheal Caine are true masters...but Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart and especially Heath Leadger who ironically and unfortunately gave the performance of his life and passed away before he could get the praises he deserved was also tremendous.
My only regret is not being able to give this movie an eleven out of ten...definitely a true Masterpiece
The Tuxedo (2002)
Fun Movie
I don't see myself as a Jackie Chan fan yet i watch almost all of his movies that was the main reason why i saw the Tuxedo.
I was surprised to see that Tuxedo got such low rating.
I now its not a classic or anything...but it doesn't aim for that. It's a fun movie with lots of fun stuff.
Jackie Chan does his moves, there are fun gadgets...and a pretty lady (Jennifer Love Hewitt) what else do you need to make it a fun movie ? :) I watched the movie several times...you will love certain scenes.
If you like Jackie Chan...or action/comedy movies...this one is definitely a good way to pass a few hours :)
Trigun (1998)
Flawless
I'm not a big fan of anime, but when i watched the first episode of Trigun, i fell in love :)
The character of Vash is the best character ever. He is extremely funny with his expressions and the way he acts.
Trigun is a rather funny show at start but the show becomes serious in the later episodes.
I watched it in Japanese with English subtitles, and later in English and recommend Japanese version.
If you like anime you've already watched this masterpiece...
but if you are new to this business as i am...its a must see...
Awake (2007)
Wonderful
I just finished watching the movie.Performances given by actors were not great but the story, the atmosphere and the effect it leaves on you is unprecedented...
There are 2 waves that will hit you hard. After the first half of the movie you get hit in the head by the first wave just as you are trying to get yourself together soon the second wave will hit you and there is no turning back from that moment.
As for the performances;
I think Hayden Christensen showed his best performance up to date but still needs to improve his acting, Jessica Alba is a pretty lady but in this movie she gives us nothing more than that. I am quite impressed with Lena Olin and Terrence Howard though. Their performances were outstanding.
I recommend this movie, it is definitely a must-see !!
