Rocky Balboa (2006)
Rocky will ALWAYS be the TRUE People's Champion!
When I heard that Sly was making this film I was excited from the get-go and I must very proudly say that Rocky stepped into the ring and went out the way he wanted to.... exactly how I won't say, check it out yourself! This film is Sly/Rock'y way of finding his redemption.
Acting-wise I think that Sly brought a very strong dramatic and comedic presence in his performance, very heartfelt, dignified and believable. And man I gotta say he looks good for being 60! The training montage was great and very inspirational! Milo Ventimiglia brought an interesting blend of resentment and pride in his character. The role of Paulie, played by Bert Young we dead on! He hadn't changed a bit, actually his character was THE comic relief of the film. Antonio Tarver did quite well his first time around as an actor. The smugness and arrogance of his character was believable and it reminded me of Apollo Creed in the 1st film.
I won't say a thing about the main event... that's for you to find out! Rocky Balboa delivers and the saga came to full circle perfectly!
Blade: Trinity (2004)
Awesome! Long Live Blade!
I just got back from seeing this film. It was definitely worth the wait. I'd been hearing lots of rumors about different endings and a Nightstalkers spin-off. Well the Nightstalkers spin-off is definitely possible but the true answer about different ending will be answered in the DVD.
Without taking anything away from Wesley Snipes (who is always the big bad mo-fo if the franchise), I gotta say that Ryan Reynolds made this film! His smart-ass sense of humor sweetened up this dark bloodbath. The humor doesn't spoil the mood. The action was so fast paced that I missed a couple things. So I guess the pacing of some action sequences would be my only complaint. The ending was a shock but Blade Trinity does not and will not disappoint you.
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004)
Cheech & Chong would be proud!
I just saw a sneak preview screening of this movie last nite and I was so happy to see this movie. Even though the theatre wasn't full (perhaps about 50 people) everyone had a great time. The entire theatre was in tears laughing and I thought that Kal Penn stole the entire show. It's a shame that 'Off Centre' is no longer on the air because John Cho was great on that show and his comedic abilities are terrific in this film. One thing's for sure, White Castle MUST come to the west coast because it seems that everyone had the munchies after seeing Harold and Kumar. This film reminded me of Cheech & Chong's Next Movie, irresistibly funny and flat-out stupid comedy. The cameos from Neil Patrick Harris and Ryan Reynolds were an added bonus and provided an extra shot of guttural laughs.
The Bear Who Slept Through Christmas (1973)
This Completed My Christmas
I grew up watching this movie from 3 years old until I was about 12. At the time I thought it was a great cartoon, but 10 years later, after losing my original tape and paying $20 for a new copy at a pawn shop, I love this movie even more. Now I understand the story and it is the most touching Christmas special and it completes my Christmas holiday. If anyone is lucky enough to see this, please do, it will be worth it.
WiseGirls (2002)
Excellent Performance
I wasn't even aware that Mariah Carey was in another movie and this one caught me by surprise. However, Mariah is not the lead in this film, Mira Sorvino is and she did an amazing job with Wisegirls. There wasn't a dull moment for me when I saw this and it's a shame that I never heard about before seeing it on HBO. All the acting was terrific and Mariah's New York accent and her attitude made this movie a real treat to see. Mira Sorvino did a great job as always.
The Good Girl (2002)
Good Girl, Bad Movie
My girlfriend bugged me for weeks about this movie. I will admit that it had some hilarious moments with that bible-thumping security guard, but the rest of the movie made me feel sick. The sex scenes made me queasy and the feel of the movie was so uncomfortable. Jennifer Aniston is a great actress and she did an excellent job, but this movie was horrible.
