Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Rami Malek's British accent
No one seems to have caught this but Rami's British accent was more like British aristocracy than Freddie Mercury's true speech. It ruined the movie for me because I kept hearing the Prince of Wales instead of Freddie's working class speech patterns. It was very distracting. I watch a lot of British TV and have learned something about various accents. Rami sounded like someone from
"Downton Abbey" more than Freddie. Listen to interviews with Freddie and you'll hear the difference. On the other hand, the music was great and I ordered a CD of the soundtrack.
The Christmas Shepherd (2014)
Locale mistakes
Most of these Hallmark stories are not for rocket scientists but are just pleasant holiday fare. And I always see mistakes. This movie was supposedly set in Massachusetts and its environs. The woman lived an hour from Boston. But when they were "in town" buying a Christmas tree you could see huge sheer cliffs and ocean in the background. Clearly NOT Massachusetts. I wish the producers would give viewers more credit for intelligence and pay more attention to details like this. My other objection is that the credits at the end are squished into about a #2 font so that you cannot read them. This is the fault of the network. I like to see location and music credits and even some of the other actors' names but it is impossible when they reduce the credits to practically nothing. Many of the channels do this and I find it frustrating.
September (1996)
Lovely and touching story
I'd like to comment on that of "mainerose" who didn't like the film. First of all, the writers DID explain Pandora's suicide. Second of all, the beautiful "Highland" scenery was Ireland, not Scotland. So my question is, did you even see the film?? Personally, I thought the film was quite lovely - I did watch it in one sitting - and I thought it did a good job of capturing the sense of life in upper class Scotland. I was disappointed in the character of Lottie and the failure to explain how she got around at night on foot (sneaking around in the Aires' garden). She was almost unnecessary to the plot and the film could have been shorter without all the details about her. I also thought that Mariel Hemingway was miscast. She always seemed to be on the edge of tears. I do enjoy watching Jacqueline Bisset and Michael York and Virginia McKenna, in anything.
