Zanan-e bedun-e mardan (2009)
This film lingers with you for a long time
The director Shirin Neshat has in "Zanan-e bedun-e mardan", made a visually stunning and important film, with a lot of good acting performances. Especially by Pegah Ferydoni(as Faezeh), and Arita Shahrzad (as Farrokhlagha). When you walk out of the cinema after having watched this movie, the real world will for a time seem a bit more colorless and unreal.
With the military coup of the Shah of Iran in 1953 as a background, four women find out the price for freedom. And through them, the audience find out the price and value of freedom for themselves. The film also draws the historical lines between the democratic Iran of the early 1950s, and the "Green movement" of today.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2008)
Romanticized holocaust story seen through the eyes of a child.
Hi! I read that at lot of the other writers here say it was such a great movie, and that they got moved to tears. Personally I could not disagree more. I admit it was interesting to look at the world trough the eyes of a eight year old boy, but what did he really see? A fairytale concentration camp with children, where everyone was just sitting around. For not to mention a camp without security and almost without guards. And the commanders son (main character) came to play with a boy for hours each day! Some writers recommend this movie for educating at schools. How could they? If you are going to portrait something very far from what really happened, you either add humor, or make everyone sure this is just a fairytale. This movie did neither..
Taken (2008)
A bit less than average action movie with a lot of killing
I would first like to say that this is a quite OK action movie. If you are hangover from last night or just want to be entertained and doesn't want to thing about why things are happening, it is a movie to recommend. I have to admit that it did seem kind of strange to see Liam Neeson in a role better cut out for Steven Seagal or Chuck Norris, but than again he is a real actor, and I don't think he could have done the movie any worse (except that it would be more funny). The only thing that bothers a me a bit, is that the whole plot takes place in a alternative and different Europe. Nothing wrong with that really, but it can make people (like some of the other people writhing comments) believe that this is how the world is. It is not in any way like this, and nothing of it could have happened in real life. If you would like to see a movie about how human trafficking really is, you should either see a documentary, or a realistic movie like "Lilja 4-ever". Just wanted to let people know..
